Very good quotes and insights psychostats.
However, my fair warning is that Bob Bratkowski's offense during the Kitna and Palmer eras was mostly classified as "West Coast" although the past three seasons definitely varied (2008 after the Palmer injury and 2009 I would put them into the run heavy category. 2010 definitely west coast).
Unfortunately, there is a lot of gray area here, though. About half of the league, Bungs included, run a "west coast" or some variation. Like stats said, many of these offenses don't even resemble eachother much (i.e. Bucs offense vs. the Pats offense) but they all have distinctions that make them either west coast or something else (i.e. Chargers and Browns are distinctly not west coast in their own unique ways).
Just going down the list (based on 2010...does not take coaching/scheme changes into account)
Patriots = west coast (easily the best modern adaptation) especially post-Moss
Jets = run heavy
Dolphins = run to set-up pass
Bills = west coast
Steelers = vertical passing
Browns = smashmouth 1960s Dolphins offense
Ravens = run to set-up pass
Bengals = west coast
Colts = shotgun/vertical passing
Jaguars = run to set-up pass
Titans = run heavy
Texans = pass to set-up run
Raiders = vertical passing
Chargers = vertical passing
Broncos = west coast
Chiefs = west coast admittedly run heavy compared to most variations
Eagles = west coast (likely the closest playbook to Walsh's that exists today)
Giants = balanced
Redskins = balanced
Cowboys = west coast
Bears = west coast
Packers = west coast
Vikings = balanced (run heavy when Favre was injured)
Lions = west coast
Falcons = run to set-up pass
Saints = spread/vertical passing
Buccaneers = west coast
Panthers = N/A
49ers = west coast
Cardinals = west coast
Seahawks = west coast
Rams = west coast |
