That's sounds like a big number. The people taking handouts (Welfare I assume) are the ones in poverty and that is probably 10% or so. Then there is the working poor (20% or so) who may get food stamps.
Are you including in that 45% people getting Social Security? We need to get more exact numbers on this. True 47% don't pay taxes - some of that may be the rich.
