More than happy to "put up with" you guys, even Murf. Maybe especially Murf, lol.
Don't misunderstand Psycho, agreeing on everything is not a requisite for friendship w me. Some people I agree with on a lot of ideas but personally can't stand. Others I don't agree with on the issues and get along with fine.
I just like the debate. If anything that might be the common thread on this board (and perhaps most).
I do think the hype about the draft is overblown. Realistically, how often does a #17 pick make a big impact in the first season? Cam Newton may have been the best rookie ever and the Panthers were still pretty terrible last year.
The bungs offseason moves were uneventful at best imo. This team has not improved substantially if at all, and this year they have stiffer competition. Yes they got a couple good players out of the draft but so did everybody else. I've kind of come to view the draft as a red herring for fans of hopeless teams. Maybe that's me being older, maybe it's just following the bungs for too long.
I do agree that you best build teams through the draft, but it's a process. You have to have a long-term plan. One good draft isn't likely to win you much. I think they have had better drafts in recent years, but without a long-term plan to succeed it will be meaningless. You also have to extend the right players. Developing players for other teams is nothing to get excited about. When they didn't franchise Jo-Jo in favor of keeping the money it pretty much put me over the top in terms of realizing there is actually no hope. Jo-Jo was a great example of a great pick that will see his best years elsewhere.
I'm not going to be too excited about one draft, but when I used to it was lots of fun as far as I remember I won't begrudge anyone their hope and excitement, this is the best time of year for Bungs fans after all! We earn it! I apologize for raining on the parade. For the next few months we're undefeated and tied for first! WHO-DEY!!!!!!!!??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
