Cowher: Roethlisberger exaggerated injury

PITTSBURGH (Jan. 26, 2005) -- Rookie quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was exaggerating when he said he broke two toes on his right foot during the AFC championship game, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher said.

Roethlisberger told reporters Jan. 25 he wore down physically during the lengthy NFL season and broke two toes while scrambling late in the first half of the 41-27 loss to the New England Patriots.
Cowher said the injury was never mentioned during his meeting with Roethlisberger on Jan. 24 and nothing showed up during the rookie's physical exam Jan. 25.

"I talked to Ben last night, and got it straight from his mouth, and that's that," Cowher said. "He never broke his toes this season. ... Nothing more will be done with it; it's nothing that rest won't cure. It's sore."

Ha! Excuses exist that we don't even know about. Let's see, at the rate Ben's going, he's going to need another excuse ball by the end of this year. First the knee, thumb, toes accident, thumb part II, appendix, fever. Whew! Some of these are valid excuses, but others are made up or milked for attention. He even uses repeats in order to conserve excuses. I can't figure out why he can't admit he lost, didn't play well and move on.

Ben should be safe in here!

"The fever was 100.4," not 104

— Mike Boyko @ 12:59 pm

As it was heraled by ESPN last night Ben Roethlisberger had a little fever and not the high temperature as was reported by Michelle Tafoya.

"The fever was 100.4," not 104, Steelers coach Bill Cowher said at his weekly news conference this afternoon. "Somebody miscalculated a decimal point."
Cowher commented today about his quarterback's performance last evening.

"I mean, I think it's just the fact that everything has gone on," the coach added of Roethlisberger, who previously made a comeback from his June motorcycle accident. "It was his first [regular-season] game out. When you go from the preseason to the regular season, everybody's going through the acclimation process. Then you come in the second week of the season, and they've been through that acclimation. He was probably behind in that.

"You know what, I thought he started the game, and threw some balls, pretty well. We were not in synch, and that will take time. It has been a case of circumstances have not allowed us to be in synch in practice, and sometimes that does carry over to games. We certainly have to get better as a whole. It was one game, but there are things we have to make sure we rectify over time."

LOL. Tafoya is sticking by her story that she got the 104 temperature figure straight from drama-boy's mouth.

"...I spoke with Ben directly, 90 minutes before the game," said Tafoya, a sideline reporter. "I said, 'What's your temperature?' He said it was 104 at 2 o'clock. When he said that, I thought, 'I can't believe he's out here.' If he said 100.4 to me, I would have said, 'That's not very high, unless it's a toddler.' I never would have gone with anything I didn't believe he had said..."

and

Chris Butler, M.D., a family practitioner with Premier Medical Associates in Monroeville, said a 104-degree temperature still is within range of a body's normal response to infection but that 105 or above would be considered a "pathological response."

"I would say in terms of a person's ability to function physically, I would be alarmed at 104," Butler said...

Hey doc, we're talking about Superben here. He could win it all with a 300 degree temperature, and he'd tell you that's what he had too, just so you would say "wow! He did it with a 300 degree temperature! He's amazing!!!"

and

The situation evokes "Toe-Gate," which developed in the wake of the 2004 AFC Championship Game. Two days after he was intercepted three times in the Steelers' 41-27 loss to the New England Patriots, Roethlisberger told reporters he'd sustained two broken toes on his right foot during a first-half scramble.

A day later, Cowher forcefully denied the claim, saying, "We are unaware of any problems with his toes, OK? Ben does not have broken toes. I talked to Ben last night and got it straight from his mouth, and that's that..."

Big Jen Lies again!

No score for this post
September 21 2006, 2:03 PM

I don’t think it was a dirty hit when he did hit me, and I would never, even if I did think something was dirty, come out and say it was dirty. Big Jen

CINCINNATI – In a conference call Thursday with reporters in Cincinnati, stealers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was asked about two much-publicized comments out of Bengals headquarters.

The first came from Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, who told Sports Illustrated a few months back that he “hates the stealers.” “I hope he doesn’t hate me,” Roethlisberger said, jokingly.

Does Roethlisberger hate the Bengals?
“Absolutely not,” he said. “I don’t hate anybody.”

The other comment came from Bengals coach Marvin Lewis after last year’s playoff loss to the stealers, when Lewis was asked about the knee injury Palmer sustained in the game, on a hit from defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen. Lewis did not criticize the hit.

“To sit here like a baby and cry like their quarterback, it’s ridiculous,” Lewis said.
Lewis was referring to Roethlisberger’s comment earlier in the season, in reference to a hit from Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman in the game Dec. 4 at Heinz Field.

A few days after the game, Roethlisberger said, “From what I heard, (Thurman) said he got pushed or tripped or something; but anytime you go low on a quarterback, you know it's a little dirty.”

Yesterday, Roethlisberger responded to Lewis’s comment.

“I heard the comment, and I was kind of taken aback by it, because I don’t ever remember crying about it,” Roethlisberger said. “That’s not really my style. I don’t think it was a dirty hit when he did hit me, and I would never, even if I did think something was dirty, come out and say it was dirty. So, it kind of threw me for a loop when Coach Lewis said that, because I don’t expect that coming from him. But, hey, that’s the way he felt, and he’s entitled to his opinion, and that’s fine.”

Roethlisberger touched on one other issue: His fever at the Monday Night game against Jacksonville. It was reported at 104 degrees by ESPN reporter Michele Tafoya. stealers coach Bill Cowher, the next morning, said the fever actually had been 100.4 degrees. Tafoya stood by her story, saying she asked Roethlisberger about the fever 90 minutes before the game.

Roethlisberger says that was not the case.
“I’m not really sure where she got 104,” he said. “You know me, I don’t really tell you guys anything. I told (ESPN’s) Chris Berman 100.4. I’m not sure what happened. I’m not going to throw her under the bus by saying she was lying. Who knows what happened.”

does he ever tell the truth?

No score for this post

I think its hilarious that Big Sissy's true personality has started to leak out into the public and he is starting to show that he is a big lying immature punk. Starting to look like he's a *pathalogical liar

I would imagine that constant lying could really hurt his ability to be a leader, it might not be long before his teammates start to lose confidence in him or trust him on anything he says

*1. Pathological liars:

"Many of us have dealt with people who frequently, if not perpetually, lie to us. People who lie constantly, and often for no apparent reason, are known as pathological liars. They have an intense need for people to like them, but their lying keeps people at arms' length. In this sense they are self-destructive because others decide the liar is more trouble than he is worth.

Some pathological liars are not content with merely telling a lie. They go a step further and actually live a lie (2 Thess. 2:11), sometimes even adopting a completely different identity and living it out as if it were truth. They may pose as physicians, lawyers, rock stars, heroes, etc. The major payoff to these individuals is a boost to their self esteem. According to a survey of 72 cases, one-third of pathological liars adopt fake identities, as recorded in the medical literature over the course of a century.

Research done by Gordon Deckert, an Oklahoma psychiatrist, reveals that pathological liars are about equally divided between males and females (Ekman, 1986). They are usually of average intelligence and have far higher than average verbal skills. They often work with believable facts, seasoning and embellishing them here and there. One in four has simulated illnesses, and one in five has been arrested for theft, swindling, forgery, etc.

According to Robert Baker, a University of Kentucky psychologist, pathological liars are some of the most charming people you would ever want to meet (Ekman, 1986). They are experts on deceit, and unlike most people, do not show emotion or get upset when they are lying (Prov. 26:28)."

An excuse maker, a liar and a cry baby... what a gem he is.
He's giving some good quotes... "I don't ever remember crying about it"... (I cried about it, but I'm not admitting that to you....)

Roethlisberger said, “From what I heard, (Thurman) said he got pushed or tripped or something; but anytime you go low on a quarterback, you know it's a little dirty.” (hmmm... I did say it was dirty)

I don’t think it was a dirty hit when he did hit me, and I would never, even if I did think something was dirty, come out and say it was dirty. (hmmmm... I still think I'm too good to be hit, but Coach Cowgirl gave me a hard time about saying what I thought to you)

So, it kind of threw me for a loop when Coach Lewis said that, because I don’t expect that coming from him...he’s entitled to his opinion, and that’s fine.” (I'm too good to be held accountable)

His fever...was reported at 104 degrees by ESPN reporter Michele Tafoya. Tafoya stood by her story, saying she asked Roethlisberger about the fever 90 minutes before the game.

Roethlisberger says that was not the case.
“I’m not really sure where she got 104,” (from me, but I don't want Coach Cowboy to know) “You know me, I don’t really tell you guys anything.(How come you guys don't ask me questions?) I told (ESPN’s) Chris Berman 100.4. (On Tuesday Morning). I’m not sure what happened. (I can't believe she asked someone else about my fever...after all it was my fever) I’m not going to throw her under the bus by saying she was lying. (Since she wasn't) Who knows what happened.” (Well I do..but I'd look like a bigger crybaby if I cam clean.)

"I didn't like it," Johnson said. "It was very rude."

Whitlock correct for once?

5. Playing the obviously ill Roethlisberger wasn't the only mistake Cowher made Monday night. Troy Polamalu had no business being on the field, either.

Polamalu has a bum arm and was completely ineffective. He couldn't come close to matching the physicality of

Jacksonville's secondary. I guess Cowher figured Polamalu's jersey number and wild hair would intimidate the Jags. Didn't happen. You can't send a one-armed man into the kind of fistfight the Jags and Steelers staged.

I love Roethlisberger, but ego and insecurity forced him onto the field. He didn't want Charlie Batch leading the Steelers to an important victory on "Monday Night Football."

BIG BEN'S ROAD TO RECOVERY
The wind whipping off the river probably didn't help.

Neither did the footing on the much-maligned turf at Heinz Field.
But any way you slice it - probably not the best word choice when referring to recent surgical patient Ben Roethlisberger - the quarterback struggled for the second straight week.

Big Ben finished 18-of-39 for 208 yards with three interceptions on the heels of a two-interception loss to Jacksonville last Monday night.

His biggest miscue occurred on the first play of the first quarter, when his pass into the end zone intended for tight end Heath Miller went straight into the arms of Bengals safety Madieu Williams.

The Steelers had gashed the Bengals front seven on the ground throughout the march and were in position to take an early 14-0 lead at the time of Roethlisberger's ill-advised throw.

"I knew Heath (Miller) was coming across, and I knew he wasn't there yet, and I saw him come out from behind the linebacker and was expecting him to come out the other side," explained Roethlisberger.

"As he was coming out, I didn't see the guy coming the other direction."
Roethlisberger was also intercepted by Deltha O'Neal playing center field on a deep post pass intended for Cedrick Wilson late in the third quarter, before tossing his third pick into the arms of Kevin Kaesviharn late in the fourth quarter as the Steelers were driving for the tying score.

Despite the stat line, Roethlisberger took some positives away from the windswept day at Heinz Field.

"I feel that even though it wasn't a great game today, I feel like today was a big step for me. I felt like we were really clicking on offense with the receivers," stated Roethlisberger.

Actually Dunn, after the loss to the Bengals he basically took the blame on himself. He only complained that someone stepped on his foot once while he was trying to throw.

Most games he has an excuse though. I wonder what he'll say after this loss.

Over at Bengals.com they said Jen was complaining that his elbow and arm was sore before the game. I guess he was lining up an excuse for what he knew would be a porr performance. They said a few of the media guys were blaming his poor performance on his sore elbow/arm.

Yep, at one point during the game, they showed him rubbing his elbow during pre-game, as if it was hurting, but then they insisted that it's just one of the little "quirks" he has during pre-game warmups. LOL. I'm sure it'll come out that he had elbow surgery two days ago, but decided to try to play through the pain anyway, or something like that.

Hmmm, it looks like the paper is providing excuses for Jen in case he runs out. He didn't think that was enough, and that's why we have the elbow excuse.

I'm joking around, but acutally it wouldn't surprise me if there aren't some ramifications from that accident. I know he had a bad game in the "Superbowl" but other than that he had played well all season. He hasn't really acted like he's scared, but I've heard him talk and he doesn't seem to have the drive he's had last year. Maybe all that stuff has been just too much. Maybe the best thing would be to bring in Batch of Scum again.

All I know is that in his last 4 starts, he's putting up Akili Smith/Kyle Boller type numbers (or worse), and I think it's wonderful. Will it last? Who knows? As long as it continues though, why ask why? Just enjoy their misery.

Maybe Ben just needs to have a couple of his facial screws loosened or something. His head might be on too tight.

I think the guy is actually complacent, in what, his 3rd year??? I mean, the guy has a super bowl ring already. I am not saying that he will suck forever, but, he may just be saying to himeself... "well, at least I already have my ring". Who knows. But as far as having the drive.. I would not be suprised if he lost some of his drive for the time being.... considering the asversity he has gone through. Which, believe me, is completely fine with me. I love to see the Stooler fans shamed.

At the Chargers game, there were about 3-5 Stooler fans yelling at Cowher to bench Big Jen and put in Charlie "Work up a" Batch...

That WAS amusing...

Steelers | Roethlisberger dealing with tennis elbow
Tue, 10 Oct 2006 18:09:33 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher said there was nothing to an NBC-TV report that QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) was favoring his right arm during the team's Week 5 game. However, Roethlisberger's right arm was in a sling when he left the game. Cowher said too much is read into the health of his quarterback. He went on to note Roethlisberger has a little tennis elbow but is fine.
