Nuxhall was a great announcer and an even better player.
In his later years, he used to get confused all the time with fly balls, but I still loved him.
"Deep fly ball, going to the track, probably out of here, whoops, caught by the shortstop just outside of the infield, guess I lost it in the sun, eh Marty?"
LOL

I remember whn I was about 8 years old in 1967 and was sitting behind 1st base @ Crosley. Mom used to take us down there, buy $1 bleacher seats and then we moved to behind the dugout after the game started. I remember Joe down on the field with Tommy Helms, Lee May and Pete.
Joe would always wave to us but there was one day when they were warming up and a ball was thrown over the first base bag and landed in the seat right next to me and bounded back onto the field and rolled right past Joe. He was getting ready for an interview but picked up the ball and brought it over and gave it to my sister. From that moment I was hooked- I had my transistor radio tuned to WLW every night when I went to sleep even when Dad would woop me. I had every Red's thing known back then, made a cardboard Crosley Field in my bedroom and knew every batting average and roster spot there was.
All I know is this-- Marty and Joe were the greatest. I never met Marty but he and his son are 2 of the best out there. Joe reminded me more of a Harry Caray type-- he might have not been the best announcer but he was the best cheering section for our team. Wow-- I still remember the '70 series when the games were in the afternoon and I stopped at a friend's house to watch right after school. How when we beat the dreaded Yankees 4-0 in 1976 and how I didn't sleep for 3 days. I wish again for that magic, for that kind of loyalty not only from the fanbase to the team but also from the team towards us.
Joe meant so much to Cincy for 61 years. He was an idol for me when I was growing up....
Peace
