Per Golf Channel, he is having season ending knee surgery.

"The American Cancer Society says uninsured patients are 60 percent more likely to die within five years of their diagnosis."

Probably the best thing for him. I watched the U.S. Open and you could see the pain he struggled through.

Most likely getting at least 1 major this year helped that decision. He has accomplished so much in golf and the only thing left to do is chase down the Golden Bear.

Also Sunday and Mondays playoffs were probably the best thing for sports. You had camaraderie and respect from Tiger and Rocco was a class act. Good to see this still today in sports.

Johnny Miller and Fred Couples both had their playing abilities seriously hampered by injury. Both will tell you it was the inablity to practice that made their games diminish from their high level at the peak of their careers. Couples just can't hit enough golf balls because of his back. Miller has knee and back problems I believe.

He won't be able to practice the way he needs to to stay on top of his very high form for quite awhile. Keep in mind most of these guys hit well over 1000 golf balls a day. About the only time they actually play is in a practice round (pro-am on Wednesday) and during a tournament. Even during the tourny they hit the range and practice.

It will be interesting to see what he does to keep busy. This is about the same time age wise that Jack started to skip more and more tournaments because he began building golf courses and raising his family. We just don't understand what it must take practice wise to be even a good PGA golfer. Woods has been doing this for a VERY LONG time. It doesn't seem like it to us but he has been mashing golf balls daily for probably 25 straight years. Thats a career for most.
