I guess Hochuli won't be working the Super Bowl. He might not even have a job.

He's starting to look a lot like Mike Carey.

As fast as the NFL Game is--we shouldn't expect everyone to be perfect.

As least Muscle Ref OWNED UP TO IT--in front of a Global Audience as well. That takes some form of accountability, AT LEAST. So far, I'm impressed that Muscles owned up to it. That goes for more than what I can say about some refs/umpires. See Major League Baseball. See the NBA.

At least I can somewhat trust an NFL Referee. Those other two league umpires/refs?!?!?!?!?!? No way in hell I would trust them with my sister on prom night.

Yes, crying "mea culpa" seems to be the latest strategy employed by just about everybody these days. I guess that's a little refreshing, although not much in my opinion. I still prefer competence. And the NFL refuses to hire full time refs. These guys work at Ace Hardware during the week, or whatever. At least MLB and NBA hire full time refs. Yes, there have been in the NBA a few willing to threaten the integrity of the sport recently. But so did Pete Rose as I recall. So I disagree with you. NFL refs are consistently the worst. And they have this habit of literally changing game outcomes on a rather consistent basis.

"NFL refs are consistently the worst."

When you're part time NFL Ref, full time Wal-Mart Greeter (because you're too old to get a job anywhere else), then you have to start questioning the credibility of being a referee in the 1st place.

BTW--I think you might have missed the point there, Dewey. Here were my points:

1. Nobody's perfect
2. At least Muscles had accountability

I acknowledged it by saying his mea culpa is "a little refreshing." But given its the cheapskate NFL, that's as far as I'll go.

The "nobody's perfect" part I don't buy at all. Hey, Mike Brown isn't perfect. The point is, he's not even close to excellent. Excellence I expect. Perfection I don't. Collectively, the NFL refs are not, in my opinion, even close to excellence. Nor with the cheapskate NFL policy of part-time refs will they ever be.

Muscles is just the latest example, not of imperfection, but rediculousness.

Why does the NFL put up with such incompetence with the refs?

It gives them a great excuse when they decide to fix a game ala Stealers Super Bowl win
