Pulling from [multiple] threads, here is an updated list of MBS posters who live outside of Southern Ohio. And what a bunch of pathetic wretches we are, following the Bengals in spite of the soothing separation of long distance.

I hope nobody minds, as you have all volunteered this information. I think it's interesting the way we all hold on, in spite of everything.

A proud native a long, long time ago, but now in the Seattle-Tacoma, WA area....as far away from the Mike-hole as you can get in the CONUS. I always get the Bungle ridicule whenever I tell people where I'm from, so lately, I just say Ohio, southern part <G>. I like checking the site for the great comedy, aside from the Bungs.

If more Bengals fans outside Cincinnati see the problem than people living inside Cincinnati, we can already see how things have gotten into such a sad state of affairs.

The Reds are in the blood, not the Bungals. The way I look at it, the Bengals left town with Paul.....never to be seen again. May they both rest in peace.

Bungles In the Blood Too...

We had to root for the Browns before the AFL came to town. Our high school marching band performed at Cleveland Stadium. They were "Ohio's team." Couldn't wait to hate them. Which finally happened in '68. No - the Bengals are in the blood too..for those of us who watched John Stofa throw to Bob Trumpy, Virgil Carter, Greg Cook, Sam Wyche, and Essex Johnson, Lamarr Parrish, Tommy Casanova, Mike Reid, et. al. The Bengals were in the playoffs, as I recall, in their 3rd year in the league (1970).

Mike Brown has done for the Bengals what Lindner did for the Reds...

Been a Bungs fan since the day I got my in-person autographed, black and white, #66 Bill Bergy photo at the local mens clothing store around 1970. Dad was a season ticket holder from inception until 1975. He was a cheap bastard, he only bought one ticket even though he had four sons. Probably relate to Mike Brown if I looked hard enough. Can't shake these Bungal blues.

The list keeps growing... East Coast, West Coast, and everywhere in between. Canada, UK, and Costa Rica. Now we're up to 23 out-of-towners and still holding at seven local area people.

This is very informal and unofficial, but fun to look at. Is the ratio really that lopsided? Please jump in if you'd like. (Top post has been updated.)

Cake Town

Custom has it that a large cake is prepared after state championship victory for the Highlands High School football team. This custom has lent itself to the people of Fort Thomas becoming known colloquially as Cake Eaters, and the city of Ft. Thomas as Cake Town. Though positive in origin, these terms are often used derogatorily by people outside of Ft. Thomas in the spirit of Marie Antoinette's legendary, "Let them eat cake," - alluding to the slightly higher per capita incomes of Ft. Thomas residents over the surrounding areas. Frequently Highlands High School Cheerleaders have a fight song that can be heard as "C-A-K-E -- C-A-K-E (clap clap)".

He gave nightmarish images of their annual alumni vs. current player scrimmage. Anyone know about this? I heard it is brutal.

I live in what's called the Tri-Angle area (Durham Raleigh Chapel Hill) All pretty close to each other. There is a lot of transplants here. BUT once you get out of the Triangle your exactly right TIITR. There is some scary rednecks around here.

I was just joking with you.

Bengal backer in eastern NY

I was born in Cincy and moved away when I was 4. Now I live just north of Albany NY. People look at mne wearing a Bengals jersey, wonder what I'm smoking and where they can get some. Worse, I went to college in Steeler country, so I really had the abuse heaped on.

I don't know what's worse: visiting the in-laws in Dayton over the holidays and seeing the mockery first hand, or catching crap from my nephews in Cleveland.

No, actually the worst thing is being a Reds fan, too...

Ever wonder if Mike Brown and Matt Millen ever get together and go bowling? Or have a golf threesome with Al Davis?

September 23 2008, 7:12 AM

TIITR-- I am in McKinney area in Collin County.

I am a huge Bucks fan. Used to be a Bucks/Browns bar in Richardson--- the guy was from Cleveland and I used to go there for the Bungs-- Clowns game dressed up to antagonize them and watch the game cause I can't afford the Ticket. It sadly closed a couple of years ago. I go to the Michigan game most years but this year I will be in India for work so I might not be back for the game-- not sure yet. I was thee when the Bucks lost the basketball final 4 to UConn a few years back-- there was a Connectcut guy there he almost didn't make it out. Kinda like going to old Municipal stadium in Cleveland-- the place was a blast,

We used to go to Columbus and sit in in the closed end. One year I took my 14 year old kid and he saw a streaker on the field, another year we had a scUM dudde pour a UDF shake on us, seen some real dumbs dumbs at those games but I am usually hoarse and deaf afterwards.

Let me know the particulars. I don't drink but I will laugh and have a blast.

Dunn--- I ain't gay, and I am still potent so I guess you is wrong. Hmmm--- is it possible? J/K-- I have been to RTP area many times. My business unit for my division is in RTP-- I work for Nortel. Great golf there and nice place. It is weird to see the way they cut out area from the pines for parking lots and stores and leave the rest of the trees in place. In Texas they just bulldoze the whole thing and start over.

Peace

I was looking at this old thread today, and noticed that I somehow managed to leave a couple of people off the list. Sorry for the screw up, Bobby and Buzz. The list has been updated. (See top post.)

By the way, would anyone else like to be added? Turd? Hook? BA? theydey? JB and the other new posters? If not, that's fine, but I think it's kind of nice to get an idea of the site demographics, and how far-flung the Bengals fans are.

..."Cake Town

I never ate any of the cake but Highland's cheerleaders, now that a whole different matter. Memories make gettin old a bitcch.

Thanks, you guys. The list has been updated, and it's now up to around 20 states and four countries. Out-of-Towners outnumber locals 31-11, at least according to what was volunteered.

Now, if we can get somebody to chime in from, say, Australia, Japan, or Russia, we'd have the globe about covered with MB critics.

Like some of the other guys in this forum I've tried to forget the Bengals, but can't. The best thing I've done was cancelling the NFL Sunday Ticket, so I didn't watch week after agonizing week.

"How about a list of Missing In Action posters."

Good idea, USC. I'll start a thread on "MBS MIA's". ChrisMBHater will be near the top of the list. And come to think of it, I've always wondered about Kurt Whitener, one of the site co-founders. Does anybody know what his screen name is (or was)?

A deceased members list might be a little too grim, but it could be incorporated with the MIA's, I guess.

BBFG (bring back Forrest Gregg) - I took a job in Columbus in January and moved my family at the end of June. We loved Keller and the schools. We left alot of great friends behind. In fact my wife is there right now in roanoke visiting friends for the weekend.

We used to live off N Tarrant (Conventry Hills) close to Central HS. How about you?

I will be down there next weekend and Austin the following week.

Anyways, safe travels...

Imagine Wembley stadium or Old Trafford at capacity during a big game. Ohio Stadium is loud and crazy. When you go, make sure you go to a big game. Michigan, Penn St, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan St.

But what is more fun, is the party that surrounds the stadium. 250,000 people all within a mile radius partying their *** off!

Looking out the front window, I see the snow blasting around. Very blizzard-like. Can't tell how much is falling versus blowing. It's suppose to be 8-12 inches by morning. And I've already used the snow blower twice in the last two days. At least it's not bitterly cold. In the 20's.

Like I was telling JB back-channel, at least we usually have a White Christmas. I dread January and February. But our Canadians probably aren't too impressed.

Sorry NJ, the title for most ironic screen name still belongs to Sam.

I feel so sorry for you, Falc, stuck as you are in 60-70 degree weather. I'll try not to gloat in as I sit here with the thermometer dropping to nine degrees.

Digging myself out of the blizzard right before the game, BAC, I was hoping you would be right. But this place warms my mood.

I'll go update the first post again.

I lived there for 10 years. Wide range of neighborhoods/schools. Depends on how much you want to spend. I commuted 45 miles each way so I could afford a better house. If you want to live closer to the city be prepared to spend mucho $$$$. But housing values are still in the toilet so good deals can still be had. If you don't mind the commute check out Temmecula, Ramona or San Marcos/Vista. As far as the schools, good luck with that. Seriously overcrowded and seriously underfunded. Stay away from National City, Lemon Grove and anything south of Chula Vista. (border/gang issues). If you are into golf, welcome to Mecca!!!!!!

Will look to keep rent under $3K a month. Ill be at the airport, but I dont mind long commute if the housing and school is good. Plus I make my own hours. Thanks for any and all feedback. Trying to give my wife a headstart on where to research.

Its not my choice if I stay or not....company tells me not to buy...same as here...I have only been here in cbus for 22 months. Paid out my rear for rent in Dublin when I wish I could have bought. But I would of lost in the end.

I have heard nothng but positives about San Diego so I don't doubt what you say. But bigger dreams and promotions are in Dallas after San Diego.

As much as love lofts....It's not ideal for kids. I need a yard and suburb life. Schools are top priority...which usually leads to a good location....don't mind commute or closeness to beach or city. I'll get there.

Love beer...love golf...love warm weather...

We will see....still have to interview first

"San Diego is NOT beer heaven one decent brewerey, Stone. Northern California IS beer heaven, along with PNW. ~ unsigned log in member

A statement only a NorCal dude could make...thinks the world starts and ends in the Bay Area.

While there are some nice brews going on in NorCal and the Pacific NW, San Diego is clearly beer heaven. The rest of the world agrees:

http://worldbeercup.org/winners.html"

IMO, OREGON is beer heaven. Nor Cal beers are alright--but the real beer is in Oregon. Stone's okay--but beers from Deschutes are much better.

Right now, my favorite beer is from IRONICALLY--SALT LAKE CITY. It's called Epic. USC3--check it out when you get a chance. It's called Brainless Belgian. It is F awesome.

Best Northwest Microbrews

No score for this post
November 18 2011, 10:42 PM

I was born and raised in Cincinnati(Anderson Township) before moving to Seattle 10 years ago at the age of 24. The Northwest (Washington State) easily is home to a handful of The Best microbrews made anywhere in the states. Pyramid, Redhook and Mac n' Jacks in particular are 3 of my personal favorite breweries anywhere around, making a host of delicious brews that are comparable to some of the best European beers there are. Try them if you get a chance, and yes, I have spent weeks touring Germany, Ireland, Italy and France trying hundreds of different drinks. Make no mistake though, the Germans probably create the overall Best array of beers on the planet. Deschuttes, Rogue, Hales, Midnight Sun and Alaskan (from Alaska so not really considered Northwest I guess but a Great amber beer) are a few others among many more.

I guess I should amplify my comment instead of just battery chuckin..lmao. A couple reasons I didnt at first was I was kind of busy doing something and after reading much of what you write I've come to the conclusion that you are typical LA. You know the people who have the market cornered on smug, condensending, hypocritical, look at me dont you wish you were me attitudes. Which makes this comment "A statement only a NorCal dude could make...thinks the world starts and ends in the Bay Area"-goose. All the more funny. Oh well alls good.

First of all this conversation does peak an itnerset in me because I've worked in the micro brew industry for a number of years and have been to many, many breweries. And I've done quite well so yeah I know what I'm talking about.

The phrase "beer heaven" is where I'll disagree with you and I believe what that means is where we will not see eye to eye. Probably has a different meaning to different people depenindg on their likes.

I know many micro brew pubs that do not enter these competions, or enter them jsut to get their name out, or possibly a little feel good about their work. The winners in some of the categories alone should tell you something, even the mass producing (swill) breweries win some which means that most if not all breweries can produce a quality beer. Now when I think of "beer heavan" it's not jsut, can the local breweries produce a quality beer, they can, its is it in their culture or part of the local lifestyle even defining it to a degree. So sorry that is not San Diego, while their breweries produce some quality beers its just not what I would think of as a "beer heavan". MOst of the breweries that enter those contests do so to make a name in order to create a market. The smaller breweries that don't only care about their local market ie build a culture.

As far as relative city size I believe that Portland and Seattle out do San Dog in the "beer heaven" catagory and if you go a little east to a little bigger city Denver does as well. Just my opinion ofcourse. Having said that there is a fantastic location in Northern California that out does them all and with ease I might add again my opinion. The entire county, population wise is smaller than San Diego itself is and has two or three time more brew pubs and breweries its amazing. Go out any where there and it seems every one has there own brew and guess what it is all fantastic.

So I just have a different idea aobut the phrase, but I don't expect you to agree...after all you're LA Lol. Oh by the way LA brew scene is quite lame whats up with that? Sure you have some good places peppered in here and there but over all quite scarce and the ones there..meh. This past summber I was in Long Beach visiting and we went out to Yard House I believe its call, while the beer was good the ambiance was not very good. I tend to think of a good pub to look a little less TGI fridays and a little more rustice. That's just my taste though and the food was a little pricey too. Over all nice just not my thing, well except the half yard of good brew. Hahaha.

ONe thing we can agree on is that it is nice to see micro's really taking off in the US and ofcourse the West leading the way...Cheers.
