Why, after your D has just stopped the Giants in OT do you hand off to Perry twice up the middle for no gain when Carson and company have just driven 80 yards in 90 seconds to get you there? Just don't get it...let your BEST players win games.

We should have a Mike Martz offense IMHO.

Drunkowski was out of it all game. Woke up in OT to call the plays again.

Bratkowski would hate to change his image now, not while he's this far into his tenure.

Dang it - Pete Johnson into the line from the 1, FOUR times in a row!!!!

We have a HISTORY of successful clutch running plays. Marvin of course knows this. We don't, because we're just dumb azzes.., If it was good enough for Forrest Gregg, its good enough for Marvin!

I totally agree with Fraidy's comments:

A. That was some stupid playcalling
B. Martz would be a great offensive coordinator for this team

Right now Martz is toiling at Fresno State after being stuck with Jon Kitna and Alex Smith for the last three years. Can you imagine what he could do with this offense?!?

I notice Detroit has improved dramatically since Martz left LOL.

BTW, Kitna still sucks and don't ever tell anyone from Detroit you are a Bengals fan or you might end up dead. Suckers.

Martz is currently the OC for the 49ers.

Seems to have improved with Martz as much as he struggled in Detroit...

...this offense sucks. With Chad's shoulder limiting him, we have TJ, who is a glorified tight end, who is the only 3rd down option on the team. NO TE, no WRs. and no RB's does not an offense make. The talent is not there. There is only so much you can do without any weapons.

FC,

I was baffled at the 2 rushing plays in OT. Carson and company actually looked good in the passing game at times.

thanks Brat, way to be conservative in OT...LOL

"Martz is currently the OC for the 49ers."

I'm an idiot. Of course he's with the Niners. He's the guy that brought in JT O'Sullivan for them. Thanks for unclogging my mind.

Regardless, the point remains that he is the kind of guy the Bengals need. I still don't understand why they didn't at least consider Norm Chow.

I don't buy Dacow's theory that this offense has no weapons. While I agree injuries (CJ, Simpson, Caldwell & Utecht) have been an impact this year and they are desperately in need of upgrades on the offensive line and at RB there is still a HUGE stockpile of workable talent on this offense.

Do you really think that these injuries have made a difference in the season's outcome? Really. NO, I MEAN REALLY. Everyone has injuries. Tom Brady is arguably the best player in football--but somehow the Patriots have managed a 2-1 record without him.

I love the "injury" excuse. Every team in the NFL has them. Somehow your teams' injuries are more significant than the next. LOL.

What about Jerome Simpson? What's that you say -- he's too crappy to even get into games while rookie receivers on other teams are making contributions? What a wise investment of a second round pick.

On the lighter side of things, I thought Palmer played well in the 4th quarter yesterday...

The Bengals seem to be a BMW in perfect shape until you realize theres no engine. They have put all their money in Palmer, Chad, and TJ.YOu need to put more money in the o and d line if you are going to win on a consistent basis. Palmer has to run for his life alot. I didn't see the whole game but saw a portion of it.

Have you noticed where they rank offensively without Brady? Bottom third of the league. Almost Bottom 5 to be exact.

I'm not defending this team or making injury excuses. The bottom line is they suck. All I am saying is that a team that has TJ, CJ, Utecht and Carson on it has weapons. They just aren't being utilized. Even Kelly and Perry have a place, Bratkowski is just too narrow minded to figure that out.

There are a ton of teams out there that do a hell of a lot more with a hell of a lot less.

I would say "tons" of weapons is an overstatement but the offense isn't nearly as bad (talent-wise) as being made out here.

Here's the problem: if you have no offensive line, you have no offense!! Plain and simple. Everyone on this messageboard saw that when Mike decided to overpay Willie instead of retaining Steinbach only let Willie go anyway. Now we have Carson having to go on national TV saying "I have one of the best offensive lines in football" with something resembling a straight face despite the fact that he gets his a$$ kicked on a weekly basis.

Palmer gave a VASTLY improved effort this week and was STILL taking a beating. To paraphrase what others have said, it's kinda hard to take advantage of your weapons when the QB is running for his life all the time.
