This probably worked out as best it could for the Bengals. From all indications, they made a competitive enough offer to not look nancyish in front of the rest of the league, but they didn't overspend to keep the aging receiver. Not often that I agree with the Bungs' approach on things, but in this case, they neither waved the towel nor were overaggressive about it so I can't complain.

NO!
Decent speed at best....he will not be a burner...
Might get some catches from the West Coast offense, they only throw downfield a few times a year anyway...
8 yard routes...he is great...anything deeper...not so great.

Apparenlty Brown-hole now wants to sign Laveraneus Coles.
What an idiot, this guy is an aging speed receiver. Thye don't tend to hold up over time like the TJ-like precise route runners, plus we already have a speed receiver (Chad) so he doesn't fit at all. Not to mention we have no idea how he would do in our system, and there is no need at all at this position.
I expect Brown-hole gives him $5 mill+ a year and this turns out to be the worst offseason in recent memory.
Has Brown-hole ever heard of defense and running the ball? Does he ever plan to address either of these "themes", the same "themes" his coaches and fans keep chirping about? I think he really does get a hard-on over WRs, the most overpaid, over-glorified position in the game.

It's good to see another foregone conclusion become official. After the Bengals used the franchise tag on Graham, TJ was good as gone. All the naive fans were needlessly put through the wringer with some of the media speculation.
Assuming for a minute that Mike Brown really wanted TJ back, it was a matter of history catching up to him. See, Mike! Given any options, nobody wants to play for you! So much for your bell-cow quarterback making a difference. Palmer was practically spitting in the wind calling TJ. Do you like to make people suffer through futility?
If Matt Hasselbeck doesn't get healthy and have a good year, Houshmandzadeh will wish he were suffering through the cold weather in Minnesota. (Yeah, I know they have a dome, but you still have to live there.) If Hasselbeck does come through, though, then TJ may end up in the playoffs for the second time in his career. The NFC West is an awful division.

Don't listen to me, but you say the same thing?
THE QUESTION WAS...IS HE A SPEEDSTER?
THE ANSWER IS NO.
Ball skills don't get you downfield...quick routes and bad defense might give you some long plays, but he is not going to burn anyone off the line.
As for Coles....that woudl be a huge mistake.
He has never showed me anything special and you have Simpson and Caldwell and Henry...no reason to give a penny to a wideout this time a year.
As for the Bengals...they gave him a huge deal.
He is West Caost guy, wanted to be the MAN and no matter how much money they wanted to hand out, he was walking away from being Cahds little brother.
He is not worthy of 9.7 a year for 5 years...
He is above 30...8 years in the league...never had great speed...
Seabags are in trouble.

"Seabags are in trouble."
We'll see, Murf. We'll see. I agree with you about letting TJ go (and about not going after Coles), but I think TJ will be an effective receiver for Seattle. Assuming Hasselbeck is healthy, of course. If Houshmandzadeh can put up decent stats with the Bungs in 2008, he'll be even better playing for the Seahawks in 2009.

I am not doubting that TJ will have good numbers there, the offense he is going to fits his style pretty damn nice.
He is a short route guy and the West Coast offense is a short route offense.
I am not bashing TJ, just never tought of him as a number 1 guy.
Great slot, great secondary guy, decent locker room guy if everything is in order..

The question actually was, "is he a deep threat?" Even by typing in all caps Murf you can't change reality.
Balls skills are important down field, just ask Randy Moss. He is not exactly the speedster he used to be, but when healthy he is still the best deep threat in the game. Look at Fitz, he's got speed, but I've seen him catch just as many TDs when the guy was right there with him and he just went up and got it. THOSE ARE BALL SKILLS MURF, SOMETHING YOUR WIFE TOLD ME YOU HAVE LITTLE TO NO KNOWLEDGE OF.

Eh, I will back Murf on this one. TJ is not a deep threat. Good for third downs and can move the chains, but he is not going to beat any DB on a post or fly pattern.

Those are ball skills. Granted you can't do that against pro-bowl corners, but he is going to the NFC West. I think against the Rams and 49ers twice a year you can throw it to him deep in one-on-one and he is going to make a play. That is if he gets one-on-one.

All the cynicism and snide remarks aside, there is ample reason to feel good about the news.
The Bungs suck and have been decaying steadily since peaking out with a very average 2005 team. TJ was one of a very few legitimate NFL players on the Bungs' roster.
He deserves a chance to play for a genuine organization before he retires. So does Chad and Carson.
Let's hope some semblance of morality will result in them making an escape from this putrid collection of second string teammates and front office morons.

Please don't compare Fitz and Pony boy.
If you go back in the archives on teh website, I torched TJ many times in his early days for droping important catches....mainly on 3rd downs.
TJ is a slot guy...nothing more, easy to replace.
Fitz is a franchise player....
Where is everyone getting that Seattle is good?
They had an easy schedule, went to a Superbowl and lost...just about the same as the Cards this year.
New coach, average at best qb...decent run game, nothing huge....
Whatever...
TJ is gone, it was the correct move and now it is time to move on.
A deep threat is a speedster....
Fitz can out jump a defender...TJ is not Ftiz or Moss or even in the same league as them.

....is completely overrated. Especially in their Super Bowl Winning Years. 5-10 yards a play. Nickel and Dime stuff. Murf you said that TJ Housh is only good for 8-10 yards? Guess what? 1st down--8 yard reception. 2nd down--another 8 yard reception. FIRST DOWN. That 60 yard bomb stuff happens only in playstation and once a game.

"TJ is a slot guy...nothing more, easy to replace."
So now at best TJ is a #3 receiver!? You crack me up Murf. The guy leads the league in receptions over a 3 year span, and at best he is a slot receiver.
I agree with Ar-Too and Hook, I am glad he got to go somewhere that at least wants to win. Seattle is not great, but could easily win their division next year.
TJ is not in the same league as Fitz or Moss, no $#!t. No one ever said he was. But if you can jump up and catch the ball down field, that makes you a deep threat. I don't care what your 40 time is, catching the ball downfield makes you a deep threat, not how well you run a 40. That makes you a track star.
That said, TJ is just decent down the field guy, that's all I was saying. He is not Moss or Fitz, but to say he is worthless more than 8 yards down the field, or that he is just a #3 receiver, is totally stupid. One of the main reasons his YPC has been so low is b/c the Bengals start Reggie Kelly at TE and have no running game, so out of necessity he has had to become a short yardage, 3rd down guy.
Over/under on TJ catching 80 passes next season?

...this can only help it suck worse this year. TJ was the most reliable receiver they had. Always showed up. He will be missed. Even by a team as bad as the Bungs. Now he's gone home to his neck of the woods, and I am sure he will be happier there.

Who said anything about a #3?
Do you even watch football?
For a guy that pretends to understand football, you simply don't get it.
TJ got a ton of balls b/c he ran short and precise routes.
That is a slot guy.
A guy that will go over the middle, take the 5-8 yard outs and curls.
He can not line up, on the outside and out run the best db on the other side of the ball.
Not going to happen...
He had the benefit of going against number 2 cover and number help defense, either a linebacker or a safety.
Watch the games.....
Many number 2 guys think they are number 1...untill they face the top coverage.
Then it becomes another excuse.

"TJ got a ton of balls b/c he ran short and precise routes.

The term slot receiver generally refers to where a receiver lines up (in this case, in the "slot" position), not the kind of routes he runs. Sorry I didn't translate what you said with my Murf to English dictionary before responding.
