I don't understand or like this deal at all.
Great moves so far in freeagency...
Benson/Crocker/Dorsey/Harris all comming back.
TJ is gone...agree with him letting him walk.
then turn around give Peter Warricks partner in crime a 4 year deal for 28 million?
I don't mind him, but for 28 million?
Something must be going on behind the scenes with Chad or Simpson..

I could have sworn Geoffy oody reported Coles wanted $6 million per year. So why did we give him $7 milion? Not that I don't like the fact they finally made a deal but, do we have to give players more than they wanted just to get them to come here?

I like the move. He's a veteran with more catches for less years and money than TJ. I thought Chad and TJ needed to be broken up because the feed off each others negativity and were friends for too long. This also frees up chad and we can now accept trade offers. We need O line and D line in early rounds and a back up running back in later ones.

Wikipedia: On September 29, 1999, during his senior season at Florida State, Coles and teammate Peter Warrick went to a Tallahassee, Florida Dillard's department store and, with the aid of a cashier with whom they were friendly, purchased $412.38 worth of clothing and were charged only $21.40a discount so large that it is considered shoplifting under Florida law. An off-duty officer saw the event through a surveillance camera, according to police. Coles, Warrick, and the clerk, Rachel Myrtil, were arrested for grand theft. On October 22, Coles pleaded guilty to misdemeanor petty theft and was dismissed from the team.[1] At that year's rivalry game at Florida, Gators fans brought Dillard's bags to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to mock the team. Florida State won the game, and Seminole fans returned the mocking by requesting the bags as souvenirs.
Coles childhood nickname was "Trouble".[2] Coles was arrested in 1998 for simple battery, suspended for the Seminoles' 1999 season opener versus Louisiana Tech for academic reasons, and discovered to have accepted a plane ticket from a sports agent's representative in 1999.

That is why I called him Warricks partner in crime...
That was 10 years ago....
I am not worried about his conduct...
Just would have rather seen the money go to a center....
Like I said, I don't mind him.
He is a better down field threat than TJ.

Asked about filling the void of wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Lewis said the team addressed it last year "in the draft" with Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell, and, in an apparent allusion to Coles, he indicated other moves are on the way.
"We're working very diligently to maybe upgrade us in some areas," he said. "Soon. Imminent."
Is he indicating Chad is gonna be traded??

...if it means they trade Psycho. If Ocho is traded for an early 2nd pick, I'd jump for joy. That would give them a lot of options in the draft. Center, Ot, and RB or De or corner would come into play in the first 3 pix, plus they rid the team of a fuggin distraction. Addition by subtraction. Love it.

I continue to be on the same page with Murf. That seems like a lot of money for a receiver that might help them reach the dizzying heights of 6-10 next season. It would be nice to think that this allows the Bengals to trade Ocho Cinco, but I can't see it happening. Mike Brown is too stubborn.
So now Coles will be making an extra million per year versus what the Jets offered? Is it really worth it to come to the Siberia of the NFL? This guy could easily end up as another unhappy distraction by this time next year. I guess the team wouldn't know what to do without two high-maintenance pain-in-the-rump receivers on the roster.

I'm just pleased that we did something to address a need and it wasn't someone elses second stringer. Is it the best move and value of all time, but this is a solid NFL receiver and one of the first "real" free agents that we've attracted in a long long while. I'm not sure about Coles as a Bengal on the field, but it is actually one of our biggest free agent signings in the mikey era. And it actually sets an example for someone comming to Cincinnati.

Why not just keep TJ?!?!!?!?!!??!?!? Mike Brown COULD HAVE kept TJ content if MFB would have dealt with TJ faster. Say last year. Extended him. Whatever. But dumbazz is just too stupid. Dumbazz still thinks it's 1974. Whatever.
Yo Mike--you missed parachute pants, "cool" flannel shirts, and revised trucker mesh hats. You also obviously missed those contract negotiation 101 classes while in the Ivy League too, dude.
BTW--YOU SUCK.
Oh yeah--that deal for the sheep--for Coles?!!?!??!?!?!?!? Most of us see through that one. You got a lesser receiver for about the same money. I see through you. So do most intelligents fans. You're not fooling anybody with this signing.

TJ and Coles' numbers aren't even close. Especially for a year where TJ was forced to deal with a backup QB 5 games into the season (or whatever it was). Coles was dealing with a different situation--of a QB that was trying to hold onto the game too long--but still--Coles definitely had a better situation--and still, IMO--couldn't outperform TJ. Take a look:
TJ's Numbers for the last 3 years:
YEAR TEAM G REC YDS AVG LNG TD
2006 CIN 14 90 1081 12.0 40 9
2007 CIN 16 112 1143 10.2 42 12
2008 CIN 15 92 904 9.8 46 4
Coles is a pretender. He doesn't show up every week. And since someone mentioned it--it's perfect that Coles went on that "shopping spree" back in Florida and shows up on this team's roster.
Bronco, I'm obviously not the biggest TJ fan in the world--but there's really no comparison between the 2 receivers. Seattle got the better receiver.

Coles has more catches because he was a starter by his second year and TJ didn't start until his 4th year. I don't understand why him being a "deep threat" is so important, who cares? Chad is already supposed to be a deep threat, Henry is supposed to be a deep threat, how many deep threats do you need? Besides, I think it is worse that his game centers on being a speedy deep threat since he is 31. How much longer do you think he will be able to run by people? Seems like a route runner like TJ would hold value better into his 30s.
Was the reason we sucked last year because we didn't have any deep threats? Unless I am missing something, we sucked because we couldn't even pick up a first down. Remember all those games where we had 1 or 0 3rd down conversions in the first half? I don't see how a 31-year-old, 5' 11" speed receiver addresses that issue. Most teams already play 2 man under or 4 man under against our offense all day keeping their safeties sitting back while the front 7 stops the run. I think a solid running game and TE would do more to open up our deep passing game than adding another WR.
I am sick of hearing our coaches talk about re-emphasizing the running game and defense only to see Brown-hole cut their nuts off by going out and drafting a bunch of WRs or by signing Henry back or signing Coles. Brown-hole obviously doesn't listen to any of his coaches except his bromosexual Drunkowski.
The only real upside I see to this is what Belko said, it hopefully keeps him from reaching on a skill player in the draft.

I think me and C-Star are starting to see things in the same light. Welcome to the brownhole, my friend. There is no escape from the Brownhole. LMAO.
I agree. I don't see what another "deep threat" does to the Bungles' gameplan. And to add to it--the Bungles haven't done anything in FA to address the Defensive Front. Or the Offensive Line. It's just depressing. Just add another receiver. Only in Mikehole's world.
AND IT SUCKS AND DOES HE.

Not to mention they still don't have a starting FB or a starting caliber TE. I really think that the bromosexual's -- that would be Brown-hole and Drunkowski -- plan is to just stockpile enough receivers so that they can ultimately eliminate the two positions. Fear not, they are going to revolutionize the game! LMAO!

Hobsin's spin and is Chad on the block? For him to even be talking about it means it may be possible, since he doesn't talk about anything that would get him in trouble with Brown-hole:
This Lewis quote from the article is absolutely an instant classic though:
"A lot has been said that they don't do this and they don't do that. Well, that's not really true. We do do, and we do it at a very, very high level," Lewis said.
The Bengals do-do at a very, very high level all right! All over their fans and the people of Cincinnati.
I got dibs on it as my signature.

Nice math for Coles, even if the reported amounts are missing 0.05 million somewhere. Loose change, I guess. (The missing money is for lighting 50 cigars with $1,000 bills.) No wonder he was happy to accept the opportunity to play with Carson and Chad.
