On the front page of Bengals.com, Geoff Hobson uses this pic for his piece Time with Tank. My intention at the moment is not to hammer Hobson or Tank Johnson. I'm wondering if anyone else notices a creepy weirdness to the photo.

[linked image]

Look at Seattle's No. 71. Apparently stiff as a board with arms to the side as he falls backwards at an odd angle. It's as if somebody was tossing a mannequin into a packing crate.

And there's more. Now look at Dallas No. 55. He's just sort of standing there with his hands on his hips. And Tank Johnson seems more intent on performing a Lou Ferrigno impersonation than anything else.

I realize photos can be taken at off-angles and at goofy moments, but I'm having trouble imagining what was really going on with this one. Maybe the photo was snapped an instant after the ref blew the whistle for a false start? But where are the offensive linemen protecting QB Matt Hasselbeck?

Maybe nobody else cares, but it's bugging me.

#71 is Walter Jones the LT. He is like 6' 6" and 325 lbs., so he looks a little funny in any picture. But I agree that it is especially so in this pic.

My guess is this is right after a busted Seattle play, either a sack or tackle for a loss. Cheap guess, I know, since that was about half of Seattle's plays last year. But anyway, looks lke Hasselback is peeling himself off the turf, Jones is standing there waiting for the next play, and Tank and #55 are celebrating. It does looks a little weird, but like you said candid photos often look weird.

"We do do, and we do it at a very, very high level," Lewis said.

Sorry about that, Homey. I guess this is kind of like telling someone you can't get a particular song out of your head, and then that person acquires the same affliction. And by the way, as I finished hiding the kids Easter egg baskets a few minutes ago, I started thinking about one of the most irritating songs ever. Remember Sammy Davis Jr. and Candy Man? Oh sure you! It starts like this:

Who can take a sunrise,
sprinkle it with dew?
Cover it with choc'late
and a miracle or two?
The Candy Man,
oh the Candy Man can!
The Candy Man can
'cause he mixes it with love
and makes the world taste good!

For some reason, that song stays with me for awhile once I hear it or think of it.

Cin-C, I should have realized No. 71 was an offensive lineman, but he doesn't look big enough in the picture. You're probably right about a busted play with Tank celebrating. There was a false start, and Walter Jones got clobbered. (I wonder how he landed?)

To those so religiously inclined -- Happy Easter! Or... Happy 4th day of Passover! To everyone else, hang loose!
