Christ. I don't know if this story has been posted or not--but how are you giving yourself millions of dollars by going 4-11-1 as a bonus!!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?

One other thing--Why aren't the Bungles Financial Records PUBLIC?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!? That should have been one of the stipulations of the stadium deal. You guys still stuck in Cincinnati really got screwed.

Who cares?
Sounds to me like the old man raised some spoiled brats and he treated them like they treated him.

It's never ceased to amaze me how the same guy who negotiated the stadium deal FOR THE COUNTY is now a Bengals employee. I guess I'm the only one who smells a rat.

He did not win re-election, so he needed a job, the Bengals hired him.

Despite the good ro bad or whatever terms that were in the deal, without the stadium deal, this city would be the arm pit of america.
We have the makings of being a Detriot, without the ammo to rebuild into a top small city.
Now, atleast we have several reasons to compete for some kind of something around here.
Bearcats/Xavier/Bengals/Reds.

Without the stadium deals...we would be.....or would have......A small college town, and the big college got drilled by a liberal nut job and then split.

So, after how many years?, It is time to let it go and just be happy that we have a franchise, good or bad.

Why do you post here? Could it be that you enjoy getting regularly bashed for your blind homerism and support of the worst owner in professional sports? Seriously, why else would someone with your attitudes about the Bengals spend time on "mikebrownsucks.com"? Just wondering.

NO. I probably won't ever forgive. MFB could probably win 4 SB's in a row--but I'll never forget me handing back my fanship card back in the 90s. F*CK MFB. And for the most part, F fans like you, Murf. Why? Because you're the reason why MFB won't ever change--or won't ever HAVE TO CHANGE. You keep on blindly putting change in this MF'er's pocket--unquestioning why the Bungles don't have a better team.

Why don't you just take a sh*t on all your money (probably in the thousands), take a piss on it--then throw it in the fire. That's about what you're doing anyways. You do realize that Mike Brown doesn't give a sh*t about you, right? Mikehole doesn't care about any of his fans. It's only in his millions that he cares about. And that's just sad that Murf continues to buy into this flawed product.

Where am I defending Mike Brown? For people on here to pretend to be smart, you seem to not read very well.
I defended Bedinghaus, the guy lost his job and he is good at what he does so the Bengals hired him, that happens in circles all over the world on a daily basis.

Where did I say that he was a good owner or a great GM or a great human being?

I said, that I don't care how bad the stadium deal was, I was just glad we got to keep a franchise in this city over not having one and being forced to watch regional coverage every single week in the NFL and not having the chance to see a game in town, and being forced to watch Cleveland shoved down our throats or Indy, but when the team could not sell out and we had regional coverage it was Cleveland and Dallas almost every week.

Stadium deal, gov't handouts, bad business deals, that is all a part of watching our local gov't burn money anyway.
Hell, you are talking about a city, that had a few blocks turn into a shoping spree, some call it a riot, but our officials, figured it would be a great idea to burn millions on a slave muesem, and then burn money every year trying to keep it open, and place it on the best property value area in the city in between the 2 stadiums.

So why just cry about the Bengal stadium? If you are worried about bad business deals, you have a Reds Stadium, 2 buildings slid in there on tax payers without a vote in the Arronoff center and slave building, and stupid building that nobody uses besides a hockey team nobody supports.

"Christ. I don't know if this story has been posted or not..."

A few of us were losing it back when the articles first appeared. But I'm glad you resurrected the issue, Falc.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/90650/thread/1240624529/last-1240839897/Mike+Brown+should+run+AIG

The Brown Family started out as minority owners. To gain full legal control over the franchise, they made a couple of deals with the other shareholders. Those shareholders received more of the profits upfront but agreed to sell their shares at some future date to the family.

There was a major side-effect, however. It made the Bengals finances so tight that they couldn't compete. The fans had to suffer through endless years of excruciating football. That is the real scandal.

When Paul Brown started the Bengals, he insisted on having "total control" over the team -- personnel, contracts, coaching, business operations -- and the majority owners allowed him to exercise it. He clearly made that a condition for his involvement. But the purpose of that control was supposed to be for fielding a winner. Not for providing his family with the leverage necessary for gaining majority ownership. Yet that is the way it worked out. Eventually Mike Brown could give himself "GM bonuses" even when the Bengals were the butt of the league.

I'm supposing that the Browns could have made a handsome living as minority owners. And that the team would have been more competitive through the years. But their quest for full legal control caused everyone else to get screwed.

murf, in your meandering reply you didn't address this statement: "It is time to let it go and just be happy that we have a franchise, good or bad."

Anyone with a ounce of respect for dignity and righteousness would be sickened by the revelations in those articles. You have the gall to suggest that we let Mike Brown off the hook and "just be happy" while he rapes Bengals fans and the citizens of Cincinnati over and over?

This should be murf's motto:

No one accused you of defending Mikey, murf. We accused you of visiting a website/messageboard for which the main purpose is sharing our grievances with the owner.....yet every time someone does, you chide us to "get over it." There's dozens of forums online where you could talk about the Bengals that don't center on Mike Brown as the villain.

You're like a guy attending AA meetings who spouts off about useless the meetings are, yet shows up every time anyway. Mind you, I'm over asking why you come here because I learned a long time ago that you never really answer that question.

And speaking of the "real world" where you want people to "go get a job," why not take Mikey to the "real world" where 99% of us don't get bonuses for anything, let alone for doing a job as poorly as he did his.

There's something weird going on here that murf isn't willing to explain. He backs up mikey time and time again, refusing to criticize even the most blatant of bunglings and blunders. He attacks those who would go after Brown for screwing over taxpayers and tormenting fans. He blames the coaches. He blames the players. Anyone but the guy in charge. The kicker is that he chooses to spend so much of his time on a website dedicated to bashing the man he refuses to see fault in. What gives? Are you a distant Brown family friend? Do you have 'Stockholm Syndrome' and are in love with your rapist and captor? Maybe, like I suggested before, you just love to get heaped with abuse and ridicule. Whatever the reason is, it has to be more than just gratitude for not moving the team. You can't possibly be that idiotic.

To start with, there is nothing this city has to offer besides the Bengals/Reds/Bearcats and Xavier.
Culture? LOL, the only culture in this town is sports.
You get a few nightly drive by shootings and your typical news worthy acts of violence and the city is run by complete idiots.
Do you realize that we voted for stadiums and a new riverfront and we got 2 stadiums and a slave muesem and the riverfront is still a joke.
So to answer your question, sports defines this small water way city.

As for the Bengals, I don't care about Mike Brown, that is what you don't understand.
He is not going to pay my bills, so why would I worry about him at all?
I do blame him for the majority of the failures, but players and coaches have to share some of that burden.
They got paid a ton of money to play a childs game, and when they failed, the focus should have been on them, not someone that does not play the game.

I am very thankfull for the stadium deal, no matter how bad the deal was or how great the deal was.
Fact..If the Bengals moved back then, you would never, ever see another franchise in this market.
Economics, tv ratings (not viewers so much, as population) and frankly you have several teams from larger towns in a very close range.

I would not care if Mike sold the Bengals this week, honestly, the pure hatred of a man that runs a sports team, is insane.
It is a form of entertainment, good, bad, average...no matter how you feel about the team you are watching, it is like purhcasing a ticket to see a movie only to find out that it was the worst movie ever, you don't get your money or time back and some rich guy is only getting richer.

So it has nothing to do with Mike Brown.
I love the NFL game, love going to the game and seeing some of the greatest players to play the game live, I love the tailgating before and after the game, or just going to the local watering hole and enjoying the game with some loud fans.
Without the Bengals, we have no reason to venture downtown, for any reason.

Few things have matched the comedy, and the insanity, of Murf than his repeated theme about blaming the players.

By that logic, you would blame kittens for their failures after being thrown in amongst of pit bulls.

Mikey is a failure. But even worse, he's a sleazy failure. His shameful association with Bedinghous makes that point.

Only the genuine sheep among us would argue the facts.

The idiots even built National Underground Railroad Freedom Center here, or 'slave museum' as I like to call it. Talk about a waste of money. It makes me so mad (like many things) I had to mention it five times. The only culture I value is related to sports. Thank you Mike Brown for not taking the Bengals to Los Angeles. To show our gratitude, I and the other citizens of our suckazz city will never require you to field a competitive team. If it happens, great! However, we'll continue to fill your pockets and enable your incompetence either way."

Not going to ask the obvious follow-up question. Told everyone I wasn't gonna do it :-p.

>>>>Without the Bengals, we have no reason to venture downtown, for any reason.

Ahhhhhhhhh......

Let me ask you this, murf.

Let's be hypothetical and say I like to fly. But the problem is, my city's airport only provides one airline's service. That airline treats me like $#!+, hires incompetent and/or lazy employees, jacks the prices up, etc. But I reply, "hey, let's not be down on the airline...if it wasn't for them, this would be a $#!+ town without air travel!!! And I love air travel!!! Therefore, I'm grateful for this crappy airline and will not protest it, complain about it or say anything remotely bad about it!!!"

What would you call me, murf?

You'd probably call me an idiot or say I had no self-respect.

Or maybe I'm wrong. I don't want to jump to conclusions.

I'll just wait for the analogy to sink in...

No Culture?

No score for this post
May 13 2009, 6:56 AM

No Culture? I beg to differ.

I've lived in the greater Cincinnati area almost my whole life and I feel blessed and enriched by the culture in this area. One of my best childhood memories was going to the Cincinnati Zoo every year with my grandparents. It was then, and still is regarded as one of the finest zoos in the nation. I also remember field trips to places like the Cincinnati Arts Museum, where a young elementary student would get introduced to great paintings by the masters of bygone eras, like Monet, Cezanne, Rembrandt, etal. I remember the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History and staring in wonder at the reassembled, skeletal remains of a Tyrannasauraus Rex glaring down at me like I was a menu item.

I remember riding down the Ohio River on the Delta Queen with my grandparents while a barbershop quartet or a Dixieland jazz band serenaded the guests. I remember watching what must have been the biggest toy train in the world through the window of the Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co. I remember standing in line to ride the Shooting Star or the Wild Mouse at the Coney Island amusement park. And I remember going to Catholic Mass at the St. Peter in Chains Cathedral craning my neck to gauge the height of the ceiling and thinking to myself that if God really did have a house on earth then surely it must look just like this.

So I guess what I'm saying is that if the Bengals had moved to another city (which I doubt) my cultural upbringing would not have been irreparably harmed and their leaving, while unfortunate, would not have left a black hole in my memories.

Hey Murf, have you ever heard, agreed with or even uttered the phrase "if you don't like America then you can get out" -- or some variation? I am pretty damn sure you have said that about one or more liberals in your lifetime whenever they dissed a policy or action, past or present, that this country has engaged in.

So I say to you sir: if you don't like this city, get the hell out! You have plainly stated that you just enjoy the "NFL experience," that it is not really about the bungs or brown-hole or winning or any of that, and clearly you have no real affinity for this city, so why not move somwhere that has a winning team and that you don't hate?

I'm thinking $hittsburgh would be a perfect match.

JB, you are right Cincy has decent cultural offerings for those willing to venture out of their west-side bubble on occasion. Especially for a city of this size. But for those that equate sports with culture and have no appreciation for real culture -- things like art, music, learning, etc. -- it must be hard to see. I mean, are you freakin' serious Murf!? Don't get me wrong I love sports, but saying they are culturally important is like saying Tom Green's movie Freddie Got Fingered was a work of artistic genius. Do you ever worry about the air supply in your bubble getting low? I think that can cause permanent damage.

By the way, if you guys are pissed like I am that Bedinghaus screwed the city and then was rewarded with a permanent gig at brown-hole's house of wool (stealing from sheep is a profitable industry), then you should know that Jeff Berding, current city council member, is also currently drawing a check from the brown-hole.

I personally think it is total crap that he would be drawing a check from the city and brown-hole, who in turn also draws his earnings from the city. Talk about double dipping and a total conflict of interest. The guy plays himself up to be a blue-collar everyman when he is anything but that. Got elected though cuz of his plastic smile and Democrat label.

Anyway, anyone that agrees and votes here should NOT vote for Berding. If you have friends or family please ask them to not vote for Berding either. The last thing we need is for brown-hole to have a surrogate seat on council to protect his interests.

I did not know that about Berding.

I have always been struck by the irony that Mike-hole is often ridiculed for being cheap and an idiot.

He's obviously a failure as a football executive. But he's proven that he can spend vast amounts of money, be it on second string football players or as bounty to sleazy politicians.

And Mikey is not without talent in some fashion. It takes a remarkable sheep herder to round up his sizable herd of inane woolie followers. They live among us, though. Some of them even post regularly at MBS.

You guys have gone off the deep end.
You would think that you would be a tad bit on the easy going side of things, considering the great moves this team has made this offseason, and the return of Palmer.
Instead, you get morons debating me about the value of Cincinnati the city...
LMFAO!

First off, I will deal with the city issue on another thread, so the main topic of this thread is not lost.
BA is just itching to call me a racist for some of the things I will point in that thread.

Berding is doing nothing wrong, he was a ticket sales manager and nothing more when he went for the city seat, and won thru an election by the citizens and he never one time tried to hide his full time job, he handed out cards with all of that information on it, and the card was an official NFL Cincinnati Bengals business card.

Stop crying over the stadium deals, it was the single most important thing this city could have done.
If the stadium deals did not go thru, you would be watching Cleveland every week, and that is well worth the price of a bad stadium deal in my opinion.

As for Mike Brown, some of you need a restraining order. you simply have mental issues over a man that runs a FOOTBALL TEAM.
Of course he is in it to make money, what owner of a company is not in it to make a profit?
That is the dumbest thing ever debated on this site.

Seriously, don't understand how you guys can even watch football, with the amount of hate.

There's something wonderfully endearing about being one of murf's fish...I know he just stirs us up but it's fun to address his non-sequitur personality.

I'm not engaging you on the discussions of Cincinnati in general. I don't live there and that's not my point of interest.

My question to you was "do you tolerate the passivity you expect from us towards Mikey in other walks of life and customer service?" And you have yet to answer that question.

If people complain about the only Mexican restaurant in your town because it's a $#!++y restaurant, do you tell them: "Lay off the owners of that restaurant! If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have any Mexican food! Therefore, you should be a good little grateful customer and shut your yapper!"

If people complain about the only bowling alley in your town because the employees spit in the shoes when they rent them out and don't meet building codes, do you say to complainers: "You ungrateful ba$tard$!! Just be thankful for a place to bowl!!!"

Because seriously, that's the logic you're using.

Oh but I'm sorry for asking you to clarify...I'll just sit and wait for you to respond with the following token murf response:

"you guys are paranoid (because we complain about Mike Brown on a website designed solely for that purpose)
i never said i liked what mikey was doing!!! (and I repeat this mantra yet I complain when anyone else expresses their dislike for what mikey is doing)
i like the nfl, this city would be s**t w/o it!!! (but I've yet to clarify whether I'm willing to tolerate s***ty customer service in ANY other line of business)
Look the team has added Crocker, Benson (and a list of other players who aren't actually ADDITIONS because they WERE ON THE TEAM LAST YEAR!). Not to mention carson is back (murf will not acknowledge or discuss the team's 7-13 record in Carson's last 20 games as starter)"

Not to mention, put a few "LOLs" in there and some cracks about liberals for good measure. Because it wouldn't be complete without a few LOLs and turning it into a political argument even though I think we've established that hating Mikey is a pretty bipartisan cause on this board.

Note that I left out the part where murf answers my question. That's because he always leaves that part out too.

Sorry to feed the troll (well, murf's not a troll 'cause he's been here way longer than me but you get the idea) but you need this morning exercises to keep your brain focused :-p

The Charlotte Hornets

No score for this post

I have a simile for Murf. When I was living in Charlotte--at the time the owner George Shinn--a Mikey Preciousssssssses type--was pleading the City of Charlotte for a new stadium. One day I was at work--and this guy was training me for my new job I was about to take on. I noticed in his cube that he had a bunch of Charlotte Hornets pendants, posters, whatever up in his cube. So I asked him politely "you like the Hornets? WHY!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!??"

His answer was very Murfish:

"Because when I go to Hornets Games, I get to see players like Patrick Ewing, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, (he kept on naming names of players on other teams)".

My response: "But what does all those players kicking your favorite NBA Team's Azz have to do with it? Do you really think that George Shinn deserves a new arena?"

Murf #2: "Yes, he does--because it makes the City of Charlotte that much better."

Me: "How? By making you the nation's laughingstock? You should really start Championing the Panthers--and telling the Hornets to go F*CK THEMSELVES."

Well, of course Charlotte told the Hornets to go F*CK Themselves. And good for them. George Shinn only cares about one thing. MONEY. That's all he cares about. He didn't even mind Charlotteans being pissed at him for 1. being a grinch 2. being an adulterer 3. Being cheap.

Also (this will sound familiar to a whole lot of you)--but Shinn didn't want to contribute to any part of paying for the new arena. Thus profitting at the City of Charlotte Taxpayers' expense. I'm glad that Shinn wasn't smart enough to line pockets during his plea. F him. F Mike Brown. F the Maloofs for attempting the same thing out here in Sacramento. And F you Murf--for giving Mike Brown 1,000,001 excuses.

I'm going to provide you a Dunn4QB question to end this post: "Again, why are you here?"

"So he got fired? Big deal. It's happened to the best of us. So he got kicked out of his house by his 400 lb'ed wife?!?!? That's probably better for him anyways."-OldSchooler on ChrisMBHater's absence

Murf doesn't understand the term nuance any more than Dan Quayle could spell potato.

Murf, few are consumed with hate at Mike Brown. Most are amused by him, and his sheepish defenders such as yourself. It wouldn't occur to me to hate Mike Brown any more than it would occur to me to hate the Three Stooges.

You're such a blind, frustrated follower. You're like the middle school kids who sulked when they held on to the myth that Wrestling was real long after their classmates figured out that it was fake.

I think murf is the least likely to be able to provide an answer for why he comes here. He might try and suggest its because the people here know more about football than most boards or something like that, but there are other bengals forums that have knowledgeable fans. All other Brown supporters know that if they try to ply their trade here, they will get ridiculed. Murf doesn't even actively defend Brown though, he just takes casual swipes at people who criticize him. Either murf enjoys stirring the pot up and having people regularly attack his character and ideas, or he realizes that he would get laughed off of any other moderated board out there for his ridiculous off-topic threads and looney rants. Maybe its a combination of both. Either way, it seems odd that someone who clearly has such an affinity for Mike Brown would choose to frequent a board called mikebrownsucks.com, and not even have an open agenda to support the man.
