I wanted to post this quote by Willie Anderson on leaving the Bungals:

"It was nice to be playing in January and not knowing if you were going to be inside or outside (practicing)."

LMAO. It is buried at the very end of Hobspin's latest fluff piece. Is it me or has he started taking more and more subtle jabs at the Brown-hole as the years have gone bye?

Anyway, wasn't sure where to post it, and thought a place to collect all the quotes that demonstrate how incompetent and/or stingy the Brown-hole is was well deserved. Please feel free to add more quotes and re-post worthy quotes from past threads.

Good for Willie. He deserved to play for a decent franchise that cares about winning more than saving a buck on an indoor facility.

Hey, I thought most threads around here were for that! happy.gif Here's one from last year where we shared some of the better skinflint stories:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/90650/thread/1229734644/Fulcher+on+the+Cheaphole

Even More Things Mike Brown Might Have Said And Probably Did Say:

"Oh those fans. They don't know anything about football!"

"Sigh! I really miss Nippert Stadium. That was a fine place to hold a game."

"Oh those media people. They don't know anything about football!"

"Hmm. I never encountered this before. Let me check my little black book of Dad's wisdom."

"Oh those agents. They don't know anything about football!"

"We run our organization just like the Steelers. Except for that GM thing."

"Oh those politicians! They don't know anything about football!"

"I wish Dad had given me a few more hugs as a kid."

"Oh, that Public Relations staff. They don't know anything about football!"

"We've been waiting [fill in blank] years, but this thing is finally ready to pop."

"Oh that medical staff. They don't know anything about football!"

"I sure hope we can win a few games next year. I could use another bonus."

"Oh the folks on those internet message boards. They don't know anything about football!"

"If not for all those snake bites, we would have won a TON over the years."

"Oh those people who criticize me. They don't know anything about football!"

And for good quotes we know that he made, my favorite is the one about "themes":

"I call them themes. They (fans and customers) like to talk about different themes when things don't go well. Part of being in this job, the good side of the coin is it shows the emotional connection the fans have with this football team."

"Pickens was designated the team's 'franchise player' last year, and the Bengals want the tag restored -- perhaps to use on unhappy running back Corey Dillon -- before releasing Pickens."
- from a May 5, 2000 article....speaks volumes on how Brown used the franchise tag then....to hold disgruntled players prisoner.

"Mike has always regarded Corey as a good but not a special back, I think Mike has always viewed Corey as a B or B-plus back, but never an A or A-minus."
- Corey Dillon's agent

"If Mike Brown is not laughing all the way to the bank, it could be because he's afraid hoisting his wallet could lead to a hernia."
- Tim Sullivan about Mike Brown in 1999

I'll leave it others to find newer ones.

I received this in the mail even though I have never stepped foot in PBS:

January 6, 2009

Dear Club Patron:

Thank you for your support of the Cincinnati Bengals. We have appreciated your support as a Club Seat holder at Paul Brown Stadium, and we hope your experiences as a premium patron have been positive as well.

While the 2008 football season was not what we were expecting, we are working towards a turnaround in 2009. The team expects to continue the progress on defense where the Bengals finished 12th overall in 2008. With the return of Carson Palmer and some real work, we are confident that the offense can have a successful 2009 season. This past weekend, former Steelers Head Coach Bill Cowher spoke to this optimism in his commentary on NFL Today prior to the Playoff games: "Next season watch out for the Cincinnati Bengals. I am picking them to make it to the playoffs next season."

(Information that explains 2009 ticket pricing and whether or not your contract is up for renewal)

On behalf of the Cincinnati Bengals, we thank you for your support and hope to see you at Paul Brown Stadium for many seasons to come.

Sincerely,

G. Jeffrey Berding

LMAO!!!! Anybody that has better numbers than Earl Campbell and Ricky Watters is definitely an A. Dillon's career stats are amazing. What's even more amazing was that Dillon was doing this on a bad team. Very bad. Wasn't 2001 the 2-14 year? Evidently, Dillon didn't notice. With those numbers, you would have thought he would have played for last year's Pittburgh Steelers Team. Too bad he didn't play for a better team.

I always thought that Dillon and Ricky Watters were two of the most underrated backs in NFL History.

"Alright, that's it! If we have one more losing season, I'll... well, I'll... I'll... I'll get me some of those noise-canceling headphones to drown out the boos, that's what I'll do!"

"Threaten a holdout, will ya? Ha! Nobody stiff-arms me! I'll endure a century of losing seasons if I have to! Heck, I'm used to it!"

"Ahhh, I have such a wonderful life doing what I love to do. And I'm so darn good at it. I just wish we didn't have to count wins and losses."

"I don't care if the man died yesterday, I hate to replace coaches! Can't you guys prop his corpse over there in the corner? Nobody will notice."

"I worship the memory of Old Pops. He was the best there ever was, but he had one slight flaw. He made winning the top priority."

There is this quote:

On Tuesday, Brown said losing is "one of the parts of our game. It's not a part we want to contend with. But when it comes on you, you have to face it and keep on keepin' on."

from this article which has a ton of gems:http://bengals.enquirer.com/2002/10/16/ben_dillon_hints_at.html

And of course my vote for all-time classic:

Dillon saying that he would "rather flip burgers" than play for Mike Brown.

http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1021911/1/index.htm

In the six months before signing a one-year, $3 million contract last August, Dillon called a Seattle radio station and announced that he "would rather flip burgers" than play for the Bengals, threatened to sit out the first 10 games (and return only to play in the minimum number of games required to earn a year of service toward free agency) and criticized Brown for the way the organization was run, saying Cincinnati fans "should feel cheated and betrayed."

The quote about the fans deserves honorable mention.

"We do do, and we do it at a very, very high level," Lewis said.

All of the Corey Dillon related quotes just goes to show what kind of sheep support the Bungs in the masses and go to the games. When Dillon returned as a Patriot he came back as public enemy #1, as fans totally forgot that he was the most noteworthy Bengal since Anthony Munoz and that he actually fought FOR THEM not only on the field but off of it as well!!!

So, wait a minute--is Mike Brown saying that he has come on his face? Then that settles it. MFB is gay. LMAO.

And the first post by Cin-C in this thread is proof of way Mikey likes having Marvin around--BECAUSE MIKEY DOESN'T HAVE TO TALK TO THE PRESS ANYMORE.

That's the gist of it.

From James Walker's AFC North blog on espn.com :

"With that said, will a national audience tune in this summer to watch HBO's "Hard Knocks" series when it records the ups and downs of Bengals training camp?

Former NFL cornerback and ESPN analyst James Hasty has his doubts.

"I just want to know why we would even want to watch the Cincinnati Bengals?" Hasty said this week on ESPN's NFL Live. "I think we're going to watch them for one reason and one reason alone: How not to run a professional franchise."

Ouch!"

People like train wreck disfunctional things (see the popularity in reality shows), then add a Chad Johnson to the mix, I can see some of the reasons they picked the Bungs.
