Couldn't open the article but I did hear about this and also heard that he still would not be allowed to manage and be involved in baseball in any way except go to the Hall of Fame. So still disappointing IMO.

Have to disagree with you Homey. The man turned in his privilege to coach when he gambked on baseball and then lied about it.
He should be in the Hall though. Betting on your own team is not cheating. It is irresponsible, wreckless and reprehensible, but it is not like taking 'roids.
If Rose gets a twenty year plus ban for betting on his own team, then what should be the proper punishment for taking 'roids?

What is the BFD? He is a nitwit that constantly shoots himself in the foot. Does anyone give a crap that there are other nitwits in the HOF? You don't need to put any parameters or stipulations on the guy either. An apology from Pete Rose? What else? Kiss the ring of Bud Selig? No one would ever hire Pete anyway. His numbers speak for themselves. Not one of them was a result of cheating. Pete could do his speech and the HOF would have a crowd so big it would turn Cooperstown into a small city.
Loved the comment from Rickey Henderson about Reggie Jackson.

Pete Rose is a piece of schit but his baseball career needs to be part of the HOF. Sadly I heard that 45% of the sports writers stated they wouldn't vote for him, it takes 75% from what I heard, guess he is fuched

The writers have nothing to do with it now.
This goes on the Hall of Fame players and thier vote.
I am biased...but he belongs in the Hall, and his number and statue and all of the other over the top deals that go along with it down at the GABP.
We start judging by character, the hall would be half empty...
Plus, nobody in the next 5 years is wrothy of a true hall of fame honor, so it has become a joke and lost its flavor to begin with.
Put him in, retire his number in Cincy, and move on.

I think you are wrong Murf
"The Hall does have the Veterans Committee that can bring guys from the past up for consideration. That is also how managers and owners get recognized and elected as well. But as a general rule the Baseball Writers' Association of America holds an election every year for the purpose of electing the players you and I have watched all our lives.
The retired players wait with baited breath for the results each year knowing that they must earn 75% of the total writers votes to be elected. Typically nowadays there is around 530 writers that get to submit votes. This means that every player is hoping for around 400 votes."

I admit I am biased but 20 years for betting? I think he paid the price.
I didn't known this but after their retirement, Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays served for a while as greeters at legal gambling casinos and was banned for some time because of it.

You are correct Storm, but there is a provision in there, that after a certain amount of years, the writers can elect or ignore a player year in and year out, but the actual members can elect a player or coach or whatever.
Pete will never get in by the writers...he has a chance with the members.

I honestly feel that he would have stood a better chance with the writers than he would/will with the Hall of Famers. Even though Aaron just promoted him publicly, most HOFs would not vote for this guy. He represents too much bad although yes, if you throw out character and honor he's one of the all-time greats.
