Regarding the question of whether we are heading toward socialism I would say that anybody who doesn't believe that is either being intentionally deceitful or simply hasn't been paying attention. Like Marvin Lewis recently said, "I see better than I hear." What I see is the largest automobile producer in the world being owned by the government. Many of the largest banks in the nation being owned by the government. The list goes on and on. And now the House passed a bill enabling the government to place caps on executive bonuses. This is not just for companies that ate the forbidden "stimulus" fruit either. This is for ALL companies. I think the sizes of these bonuses are obscene too. But do we really want the government making that decision?

And yeah, for once BA is correct, the conservatives did get thrown out on their butts this past election. But the polls indicate that though his favorability rating has slipped significantly since taking office Obama remains personally popular with most americans. But his policies are not nearly that popular. I think this indicates the large block of centrists and undecided's who voted for him are rethinking that decision. I think it's also true that the luster this president brought to office with him will soon wear out. As soon as the inevitable consequences of his reckless spending hits home, hyper-inflation and unmanageable utility bills, his arrogance is going to start wearing thin. He's already overexposed. The guy is on television several times a day. But the worm will soon turn. This type thing happens to every president. The honeymoon always ends, and when this one ends the only thing left is going to be a big socialist mess that might be beyond repair.

I dont think the radical left has hijacked the idealogical platform of the party. Not at all. Obviously, any move towards government being invovled in health care would be considered "a move toward socialism". Though I am not a socialist, I do think the health care in our country has been broken for decades and I am not comfortable with my health being handled by companies who are looking to profit of my sickness. Money is the ultimate whore in this deal and when it comes to people living, dying, and getting access to health care, I dont want it to be a money grab anymore. Its disgusting that some people are denied coverage based on money and wealth. Sorry, but this is one issue, I wont back down on, its too damn important. I dont care if it takes our government 10 years to iron out the details, health care and insurance should not be a luxury for the wealthy.

On the flip side, I am 100% for additional welfare reform. I think we need to reduce the expenditures on welfare by 50% in the next 10 years. I also despise a high tax on capital gains, any tax related to the death tax inheritance.

However, I am 100% for taxes on booze, cigarettes, marijuana, cocaine, ect. We could pay for quite a bit of health care based on taxing these things alone.

I suppose it comes down to the fact that some things make sense and some things don't. I dont believe everything the Democratic Party believes in, but I do believe they care more about the common man and the general good rather than the Repubs, who always seem to base their politics on money. Sometimes, you feel so dirty talking to them (and not in a good way).

WASHINGTON (CNN) New president, old headline: the White House fired back at the Drudge Report Tuesday, part of a fresh "viral" pushback over what it called a "campaign of misstatements and outright falsehoods" on health care.

In a three-minute video posted on YouTube and on the White House blog, Obama aides pointed to a 2007 video on blogger Andrew Breitbart's site that Matt Drudge linked to under a headline that told readers it showed President Obama explaining "How His Health Care Plan Will 'Eliminate' Private Insurance."

"I don't think we're going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately. There's going to be potentially some transition process. I can envision a decade out, or 15 years out, or 20 years out," Obama says in the bite.

In the White House video posted overnight, Linda Douglass the former ABC News reporter who now heads communications efforts for the White House's health care push tells viewers that "one of [her] jobs is to keep track of all the disinformation that's out there about health insurance reform.

"And there are a lot of very deceiving headlines out there right now, such as this one take a look at this one," she says, pointing to the Drudge headline.


"Well, nothing can be farther from the truth. You know the people who always try to scare people whenever you try to bring them health insurance reform are at it again, and they're taking sentences and phrases out of context and they're cobbling them together to leave a very false impression."

Because Obama has spoken so much about health care reform, she says, "there are people out there with a computer and a lot of free time, and they take a phrase here and there, they simply cherry pick and put it together and make it sound like he's saying something that he didn't really say."

The video is part of a larger White House effort. "We intend to use a lot of the grassroots viral Internet techniques from the campaign to beat back the campaign of misstatements and outright falsehoods about the President's efforts to reform health insurance," said White House deputy communications director Dan Pfeiffer.

The clip was no longer on the Drudge Report Tuesday morning. The only references to Obama were headlines related to and posted under the image of a poster that depicted the president as the Joker from Batman over the word "socialism." Drudge has not yet reacted to the White House video.

Again, like it or not, a majority of Americans are still in favor of Obama. Also, like it or not, the economy has been showing some signs of recovery over the last month. The far right will continue to whine over the next 3-1/2 years much like the left did for Bush and much like the right did for Clinton, but Obama really has no challengers in 2012 so re-election is a given at this point. It looks like that $1 billion stimulus spending is going to reap far more benefits than it cost. Let's see how many GOP lawmakers jump on board to extend it with an extra $2 billion.

Short term benefits of increased production, more jobs, fewer jobless benefits paid out and more tax revenue coming in. Long term benefits of less energy usage, which frankly has national security implications even if you don't accept the scientific arguments for environmental improvements.

I'm assuming Murf was talking about Michael Moore's 9/11 documentary. I never watched it myself, but I remember considerable commentary about the scene of Bush sitting like a scared deer in the headlights for a considerable period of time after being informed the country was under attack.

I do believe and based on the evidence, the initial talks were all about Saddam and his chemical weapons.

The CIA/FBI/HLSA and 3 outside groups from other agencies like the UN all had investigations.
