Can't say I disagree at all. I have always thought this was one of the weakest if not the weakest aspect of Lewis' coaching. There are several games every year where he screws up the clock management before halftime or at the end of the game, not to mention all the timeouts wasted before the 2 minute drills.

Sad part is, you would think by now he would have improved significantly but he hasn't. I know his background is as a D-coordinator and game management is an offensive thing, but he has been the head coach for long enough now that there should have been substantial improvement.

"We do do, and we do it at a very, very high level," Lewis said.

And Shayne deserves the bulk of the blame for missing that kick, but I remember that game like it was yesterday and the team was so unorganized and seemed so taken totally off guard to actually be in position to win that game that surely the internal team chaos added to him missing it.

"We do do, and we do it at a very, very high level," Lewis said.

I love that they documented this to remind everyone just how bad Lewis is at game management. Its sad that we just have to hope that he has suddenly gotten 10x better in this area so that he'll qualify as a competent head coach. Add in his highly questionable roster moves and inability to get the team to focus and play together, and you just can't feel confident about a Marvin Lewis-led team.

"No one is talking about some government takeover," (Obama) said. "I'm tired of hearing that. ... These folks need to stop scaring everybody."

Marvin is hands down the worst clock-management coach of all time.

That is atrocious clock management. My anger over Graham's miss made me forget those idiotic sequence of events.

"Falc, just because I respond, please dont take it to mean that I give a sh!t about you. I respond because you are the type of person that needs to be told what a whack job you are or else you will go on thinking your behavior is normal and accepted. "

Just a couple of notes

1. Game Clock Management around THE ENTIRE LEAGUE has been bad for the last 10 years. Even by coaches like Belicheck, Cowher, Shanahan, and Dungy--who all have rings. What happened to the years of Bill Walsh and even Sam Wyche who were masters of game clock management?!?!?!?!?!?? Obviously, these coaches forgot to coach this down to their successors!!!!! It's like coaches "play not to lose in the 2000s--then coach to win". Meaning--that they would rather settle for a 50-yarder--like the Brad Childress example in the user comments--then go for 6 points and the win. What ever happened to the killer-instinct with coaching? Just imagine if Bill Walsh marched his FG Kicker out during those Super Bowls against the Bungles?

2. Sean Payton may be the in the top 5--but for worst head coach still retaining a job--it has to be either Payton or Childress. I believe 3 coaches should be in a tie for worst coach in the league--that would be Marvin Lewis, Brad Childress, and Sean Payton in a 3-way tie. I can't believe that these guys still retain head coaching gigs in the NFL.

3. In the Sean Peyton comments: "If they improve in this area, they will be tough to beat with that offense." Wow--you forgot one area of definite need for the Aints--DEFENSE. They have none. They better score at least 40 points a game, because their defense is going to give up >= 38 points in big games.

4. IS THAT ALL YOU'RE GOING TO WRITE ABOUT BRAD CHILDRESS?!??!?!?!?!?!?? How about his abandoning of the running game while trying to put the game clock out of commission? Their should have been more comments concerning this aspect of Brad Childress' coaching career.

5. Wow--indeed that is horrible clock management by Marvin. I remember giggling like a little schoolgirl when Marvin called that timeout to ice the kicker on a 34-yard FG, when he had 2 precious timeouts left. If that isn't calling coaching to lose--then I don't know what is.

6. "Postscript: The next season WR Kelly Washington signs with the Patriots after 4 years with the Bengals. He is quoted after one of his first training camp practices saying he can't believe how they worked on all types of game situations in practice. He'd never done it before. What a shocker!!!"
Wait a second. Marvin Lewis doesn't practice game clock scenario's???????? That alone should get any coach in the highest level of football canned. How in the f*cking f*ck at the NFL Level don't you practice 2-minute drills or 4-minute drills? Even the Sirens Practiced that on Saturdays!!!!!! WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!??!?!?!?

Another thing I think Marvin has been quite bad at is deciding when to throw the red challenge flag. I'd like to see the stats on who is best and worst in that area. How many times has Marvin decided not to throw it when he should have? And how many times has he thrown it when everybody watching knew he didn't have a chance thereby costing the team a timeout?

...you have to cut Marvin slack on the red flag. You can't see shhit on the sideline. That call has to come from up top.

Actually everyone in the stadium can watch the replay on the giant screen. I'm pretty sure I've seen Marvin wait until he watched it himself before deciding to challenge or not. But I'm sure he has help from the booth too. Either way, I think the Bengals record on this is probably not very good.

SoCali, you make a good point yourself. If I had to take a guess at an area the Bengals are good at it might be the most frugal training camp breakfasts? happy.gif

Take a look at the last 5 games of any season for the last 10 years. I would bet the Bungles have a winning record, without looking. wink.gif
