According a sports writer for the Tacoma Tribune in Tacoma, WA; it sounds like TJ was joking:

I'd still much rather have T.J. than Coles the ghost.

"No one is talking about some government takeover," (Obama) said. "I'm tired of hearing that. ... These folks need to stop scaring everybody."

Coles is not what they were hoping for, but he was not brought in to replace TJ, he was just antoher weapon.
Not the same type of player either.

Based on prior seasons, I would rather have Coles.
Better blocker, better team player, better speed, better all around player.

I have no idea what happend to him so far this year.

I am also glad TJ's gone although I liked him. They were worried about getting him the ball even when it might have been the right call. Lavernus Coles has been a huge disappointment for me. He can't catch anything right now.

A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done. Vince Lombardi

Hasn't been a major producer, but he's been in a pretty tough situation. Hasselbeck was out a few games, and we've had all sorts of O-line injuries. TJ hasn't been a burner, but I HAVE seen him get behind the defense a few times.
