I have to admit, I love the breaking story about the Governor being humiliated in no small part because of his political posturing about government employees, including school teachers and police officers.
But in his zeal to throw red meat to the Tea Baggers, he got caught in a couple of inconvenient lies. His press people tried to smooth them over with platitudes, but it didn't wash.
After being bitch-slapped with released cruiser cam video, the Governor had to apologize for lying about a Columbus Police Officer.
The facts are these: About three years ago, A police officer, with camera activated, was rolling up to another officer's traffic stop on a Columbus Highway. Kasich just randomly happened to be driving in front of the officer. The officer observed, and the camera clearly showed, that Kasich did not move over to provide safety clearance, in clear violation of Ohio Law and the law in most all states.
So the trailing officer executed his own traffic stop. Cruiser cam video and audio clearly shows that he treated Kasich with courtesy and professionalism. No surprise there.
But given the current political climate, where the Tea Bagging voting bloc is desperate to portray itself as victims of rogue government employees, Kasich apparently decided to posture about this years' old event.
Kasich denied the infraction occurred. And he described the officer on more than one recent occaision as being an "idiot."
He exaggerated to the point of lying. Heck, his compaints were so invented they could have been a posting from our resident Sheep.
Apparently, he didn't realize that most all cruiser video is now digitized. The storage capacity is nearly unlimited.
Much to the governor's horror, the video surfaced. It proved the officer was professional and courteous, and that the infraction was undeniable.
The "idiot" in this encounter was not the police officer. There's an element of cowardice to the story as well. When the video surfaced, and the embarrassment swelled up, the governor tried to "phone" an apology to the officer.
No dice. The officer demanded a personal apology. Today he got it.
The public bitch slapping may not yet be over. But Kasich deserves every bit of it.
