I watched the game again (can't watch the Reds anymore as long as Dusty keeps running out players like Fred Lewis for no reason).
I like Dalton FOR NOW..
I do have a few minor concerns, the concerns being minor only b/c it was his first snaps in the NFL and he did get drilled on his first play from scrimmage...
I hated watching Kitna play b/c he ran the offense like a highschool qb.
Dump offs and short reads the majority of the time.
You can move the ball from the 20 to the 20 all day long and rack up silly numbers, but it hampers any chance that you have to be anything other than a ball control predictable offense.
If this becomes the norm, they have no chance to win 3 games.
The defense is not good enough to shut people down and win games 13-10.
Think about the 2 best ball control teams in the AFC
Ravens/Jets
Power run games, with conservative play calling.
Both teams have solid defense.
Both teams are expected to take that next step each year
Both teams to reach that expectation and don't look like to be in the mix of the real contenders again this year.
Yet both are about 10 teams ahead of the Bengals on both sides of the ball.
Sanchez is solid between the 20's when the offense has rhythm, but can't score enough touchdowns
Flacco (very over rated) is the same way.
I fear that Dalton is going to fit into this category.
Short dump offs up and down the field and then field goals inside the 30.
The problem is, the Bengals don't have defense to play this type of game, as we watched all of last year.
I am hoping that this was nothing more than preseason skeleton offense and not what we have to look forward to for the next 8 years.
As the jack azz Owens stated after 2 games under Marvin
"this is the first team I have ever played on that likes to settle for field goals"

find it amazing you could get anything out of that disaster...
lmao...tried finding that quote from T.O...sadly don't remember it from him last year but its def. a golden one! pyscho, think you could locate that quote? I still think Mikey & Marvin forced him to go on IR last year, first in his 15-year career. as revenge, clearly, for his 'outsider' perspective that in turn led to many good anti-MB one-liners from Owens during his punishment of a year in cincy. he might of, honestly, deserved it considering his crazy career but anyways, mikey's bashing among friends in upper nfl management has to be one of the reasons he's had trouble this season finding work (as last year when he wouldn't of landed here unless Bryant was hurt)
this franchise is good for such amazing things...as much as I bashed T.O. for some stuff he did last year, he was really the only reliable target most plays for Carson last year and deserved more credit. I should've focused more on Marvin & Mikey than anybody in uniform. and will from now on...heck, I bet we all watch Chad go for 1,000 this year...haha, since Marvin & co. thought Dillon was done...
thus I'll refrain judgment on Dalton until I see some more of him this pre-season...Carson shocked the world from '04-09, maybe Mike got lucky again...

Eternal hope. It's like spending your life looking for a kernel of corn in a turd. Yeah, you found a piece of corn, but it still tastes like schit. So you eat it anyway because that's all you got.
Cheech: Good thing we didn't step in it.

I blame Paul Brown for planting the seed into mikey's mom.

Murf are you just now realizing Gruden runs a dink-and-dunk, west-coast, run-heavy scheme?
That's been the book on the guy since we signed him.
Marvy loves it cuz it keeps the games close, they can luck into a few wins, and then they use their youth and "competitiveness" to sell the sheep on next season.
Did you just get here?
"We do do, and we do it at a very, very high level," Lewis said.

'competitive'
'always next year'
ok does anyone REALLY think we finish any higher than 27th overall offensively (prolly will finish lower)? no...not if they have a brain & mike brown is still alive...yes, it will take at least 2 years w/ Dalton starting to see any real progression, and we are giving the bengals coaching serious credit there and not even counting any experience lost due to injury...this team reminds me alot of the 2000 squad...Akili & Warrick V2? did Suh's blast on Dalton remind you of Carson's bloody nose? gave me memories...or Akili getting munched against TB in that rare spot start...
most here have little hope w/ Dalton at the helm, but I can't seem to get myself to wish well on any other squad outside of the players suiting up in stripes...some here share the same sentiment...I just wouldn't throw a dime at MB...even for his life thru a ransom...
I am anxious to see how bad/entertaining this year will be...and if we lose the opener and the L's keep flowing I will soon begin the 0-16 campaign...i wonder what creative ways this franchise will lose this season? what else can you honestly get out of watching most (hopefully only 8-9 air) of the games? sometimes i get a small joy watching the other sideline after the bungles get EXTREMELY lucky and they've realized they lost to the worst pro sports team in sports...'09 was that year, we def. didn't deserve to win several of those games (esp. the last ravens game)

It might have been part of this Owens rant, after the loss to New Orleans. If so, it didn't make it into the article:
"I just think that, coming here this year, with the opportunities that presented themselves with myself and Chad (Ochocinco), the progression of Jordan Shipley and Gresh (Jermaine Gresham), we could be a little more aggressive," he said. "That's what I've thrived on all my career. There are times when I'm not the No. 1 option, but considering the things that I've done this year, I present matchup problems.
"It's frustrating when you feel like there are opportunities that are left out on the field and they aren't being taken advantage of. Everybody's frustrated but I feel like I can be part of the solution as well. Go back and watch the film. I can play this game. There ain't nobody I feel can stop me when I'm out there. That's just confidence; it's not arrogance.
"Everybody can listen to what I say and say that I'm arrogant and that I'm trying to create some controversy or distraction. It's not a distraction ... When there were opportunities one-on-one, I can exploit those matchups."

Bengals rookie quarterback Andy Daltons first preseason game was pretty rough, even if his offensive coordinator Jay Gruden insists it wasnt a total debacle.
Well call his second start a partial debacle, although Dalton did improve as the game wore on after a very rough start.
Daltons first drive: Three and out.
Second drive: Interception off a bad drop from receiver A.J. Green.
Third drive: The Bengals go way backwards after Dalton made a bad handoff to Cedric Benson.
Fourth drive: Another interception by Dalton.
Fifth drive: Another three-and-out.
Yeah, thats a full debacle. The good part is that Dalton didnt seem to get too discouraged. Buoyed by some good running and one big screen pass, the Bengals went on a long touchdown march to start the second quarter.
They made another decent drive that stalled later in the half.
In the end, Dalton finished 8-of-19 for 86 yards and two interceptions. We dont want to draw too many conclusions from the preseason, but the Bengals would love to avoid even a partial debacle next week so Dalton can gain a little confidence.

"With a quarterback greener than a first year, a hovering ghost, and a magic wand of an offense handed down from the founding fathers of the franchise, Jay Gruden is a fiery, passionate underdog in the Harry Potter mold." Geoff Hobson July 15, 2011
Brown on being back to work: "We're like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."

From what I watched on Dalton
He has yet had the chance to take his first snap of the game without some type of Bengal moment
:last week down 14-0
This week, nice run back by a rookie that looks better than Cosby on returns (Holland), but a holding call puts them back on the ten.
3 and out..
Green did a Chad impression, let the ball hit his hands as he was trying to lay down, pick
Benson fumbles
Then a very bad pass that sailed (wet ball, but you have to learn how to handle that)
You can see these guys are still learning the system, several communication problems including a long 3rd down play for the Jets and the Bengals call a time out as the Jets false start..bad luck there but typical Bengal sh!t.
The defense is more alarming than the offense right now.
3rd and 3 and Trent plays 5 yards off the ball to allow a quick pass for a first down.
The safety play is very bad right now.
2 more scrimmages to go to fix a ton of concerns...
I don't see any chance this team is going to be anything other 3-13 right now.
Dalton looks to be a keeper...the kid can dart the ball anywhere and looks to have the proper attitude

I believe this is a bad rumor starting in Bengalville...
He has a good arm, I am not going to make the claim that he has the Elway cannon, but Dalton can sling the ball pretty well.
I don't think they have given him too many chances to go deep, but as I stated a million times in Palmer's defense, a strong arm does not just mean tossing the ball 70 yards down field, it is the throw from the pocket on a deep out, like a 10-12 yard out, that tells you if he has a good enough arm and Dalton has made that throw a few times so far.
He has a very long way to go, but to start calling him a bust or forcing a negative opinion on him is kind of pointless.
Green had a very Chad like Game last night, but he came out and said that he failed his team and failed himself and will continue to work on being a great player, so that just goes down as a bad game for a young player, it happens, but the attitude of the young players is something that I like right now.
