I understand that many of you will never allow yourself to look at the Bengals and find anything positive to say about them and I fully understand the frustration that drives that thinking, but if you step away from emotion and take a look at this offseason, you might be pleasantly surprised at what they have done.
Looking at what they have added and what they have lost and what they drafted.
Big time failure:
Carson Palmer--I know that I am the only person on this website that still wishes to have #9 back this year and with the circus clown gone, I do believe it would be a very productive year considering his talent mixed with what we watched when the clown and the jack azz did not play at the end of the year last year.
But things do not look good even if he did come back, so the moron should trade him to Seattle for a second round pick and move on with Andy Dalton for this year and see if he is a keeper or not.
Jonathan Joseph:
I will never understand how you fail to franchise this guy the first minute that you were allowed to.
This move is right up there in the top 3 or 4 most embarrassing moves made in franchise history.
He was the best pure cover guy on your roster and with Hall and Jones, it would have formed a very nice package to run out there vs 4 and 5 wide sets.
Great additions by subtraction:
Circus clown being traded, I understand that it is about 2 years later than they should have traded him, but for what it is worth now, he is gone.
Owens not even being contacted!
D Jones @ linebacker, great leadership, smart football player that everyone liked, but he could not cover a high school TE across the middle.
Cosby:
Great story, undrafted freagent but just like i used to say about Kevin Kaseveharn, great story but you will never be a great team with a player of his caliber playing an important role.
Great moves:
Clements--yes this was an emergency deal after Joesph blew up, but they did go out and try to stop the bleeding quickly.
Lawson--a very talented player and worth every penny to take a shot at him to see if he can play with some energy again.
I believe they should ink him right now for a longer deal b/c he only inked a 1 year deal.
Howard--very solid pick up
Taylor Mays--for a seventh round pick? hands down the best move they made in years.
I don't care if the guy even winds up a total bust, you got a 2nd year player that was drafted in the first round for an irrelevant draft pick in 2013.
Bo Scaife:
Injured but nice pick up
Kelly Jennings:
Another nice deal, considering what you give up for him.
Brandon Tate:
Good turn out to be a great last minute pick up.
Good return guy and a decent wide out
Draft Picks:
Green--seems to be everything as billed
Dalton--as long as they protect him this year and take give him an opportunity, I believe he can be a very good player for a long time
Moch--injured
Boling--seems to be a very solid pick
Sands--Marvin likes him, but a mid round safety is not expected to make it to the Hall of Fame in the first year
Whalen--time will tell, but seems like a solid pick
Lindsey--Bengals took a gamble and lost this kid, I believe this will come back to haunt them at some point
Finley--deep back field, this kid never had a chance, plus I liked the Williams kid better.
Giving extensions to players like Cook/Hall and Whit was very smart.
Going after extensions for Lawson/Pacman/Reggie Nelson/Simpson seem to be very smart moves.
So when you toss it all in the bowl and shake it up you get something that Marvin has craved for years.
Young player with something to prove and little drama off the field.
This team is 100% Marvin right now.
The question is simple.
IS MARVIN A GOOD COACH?
We will see how good or how bad he is.

I gave Mikey credit for having 5-6 win talent the last few years, but it looks like he's done the impossible and degenerated to 4-win talent this year. If that happens, I get to celebrate another year of laughs at the expense of Mikey and his enabling Sheep.
And if Marvin gets them to overachieve again to 7 or 8 wins, I get to watch Murf explode in frustration yet again as Marvin wins coach of the year honors.

I was in St. Louis this weekend and read the local sports rag reporting Mardy Guiliyard was cut on Sunday (too bad, I like that guy). What are the odds "thehole" goes for an "atrell hawkins" part deux?

I was surprised to see Brandon Ghee waived after only one year. He must be real bad considering Pacman is out and Joseph is gone. He was a 3rd round pick last year, so he must have had no game if he doesn't get a second year.
He has 4.3 speed.
I have to admit I am starting to get new season optimism. We have a chance at having some pass rush with Johnson and Dunlap. If they provide pressure our corners won't have to cover as long which makes their job easier.
Andy Dalton is going to be a huge crutch. I have zero ability to beleive he should be starting over Gradkowski. Say what you want but he has started for two teams and has looked decent at times and compare that to a rookie QB.
Not to mention Gradkowski played for our offensive coordinators brother and knows the system.

I've always been a Mardy fan myself. I did see he got picked up on waives by the Jets on Sept. 4. Going into a much better situation...let's hope they give him some chances.

"Ghee and Coffman are on the Practice Squad."
Wasn't Chase Coffman a 2nd round draft pick 2 or 3 years ago? Players selected in the 2nd round contribute on the field GAME DAY--not on some practice field through the week.
Just embarrassing.

Coffman was a third round pick also. That was from the same year that murf (and admittedly a number of you guys criticizing those picks now) was practically ejaculating over their draft other than Andre Smith.
Murf is onto something though. While this team is 100% Mikey in terms of talent (none or at least very little), it is a lot of Marvin in terms of attitude. Gone are some of the notable team distractions and on the roster is a hungry bunch. Because they really are void of talent they will be lucky to win four, but like someone said, if Marvin gets them to 8 wins he should probably be coach of the year again. The kids seem to have a great attitude and seem to be playing hard for their coaching staff and for their careers as well. Hopefully no one is playing hard for MB though! LOL!
