ESPN 30 for 30 has been entertaining look behind a lot of the stories I didn't know about. The Miami one has been my favorite, naturally, but the SMU story, the guy from Oklahoma University, and the Compton stories were awesome.
This week, Tuesday at 8pm, they will feature Chuck Wepner, the guy who went 15 rounds with Muhammed Ali that inspired Sly Stallone to write the Rocky Movies. He has been historically know as the Bayonne Bleeder, hailing from my hometown of Bayonne, NJ. Knowing him from my youth, I call him Champ, know him more for endorsing local companys around town, being a spokeman for a liquor company, and as little as 7 years ago, a workout partner at the gym. He was a hired thug for the family back in the day, and Don King needed a white stiff for Ali to slaughter.
I am looking forward to it, and if you have enjoyed the series as much as I have, you should get a kick out of this one.
It is depressing watching the Jets have success.

Don't want to diss on you friend, flap, but I remember watching that bout on TV. It was ugly. It was dull. Felt like watching an exhibition. Wepner kept rabbit punching Ali in the back of the head, which was illegal. May have helped bring on Ali's Parkinson's.
I'll give him credit for hanging on, though. People were expecting a quick TKO.

No offense taken, brother. The fight was what it was. He took a lambasting for 15 rounds. He stepped on Ali's foot and knocked him down. It was what Don King wanted it to be, but Champ made it something a little more. But let's not forget what the Rocky movies became, and he was the inspiration for them.

It was well done. It was great to see many of the landmarks from my hometown. That said, after watching it, it goes without saying the Sly ripped a lot of things in Chuck's story. It doesn't get any more obvious then when Chuck fought Andre the Giant. The scene in Rocky 3 with Hulk Hogan is a reproduction of of the fight at Shea Stadium.
I think Champ came out looking pretty good.
