STILL not official because the Chargers have not yet filed official paperwork. But if they move they will be playing in the 27000 seat Stub Hub Center until the new Rams stadium is ready.

I think it's stupid. Why does Los Angeles need two teams when until just recently they had none? I feel sorry for the folks who have supported that team in San Diego.

The Bengals managed to squander that bit of good fortune, though. The Bengals could leave the winning Powerball ticket in a pair of pants they donate to Goodwill. ~ Doc

That and LA already had empty seats this season later in the season for the Rams...and the Chargers will likely be second fiddle to the Rams who have more of a history there, at least a one year restart on their reboot, and they are the main tenants at their stadium (which means that potentially the Chargers will be the new Jets).

DEAN SPANOS IS MIKE BROWN WEST!!!! That's why.

His lease in LA? Supposedly, I heard it's $1. That's right.

Mr. Spanos has been holding San Diego hostage for over 20 years in attempting to get a new stadium built via taxpayer dime!!!

Who does that sound like, Hamilton County?!?!?!?!?!? Yeah, you already know.

I think that the $1 offer was from the San Diego government to keep him in Qualcomm (99 years at $1 per year) which is a disingenuous offer (kind of like when Cleveland just gave Art Moddell Cleveland Municipal Stadium while giving the at the time much much much less popular Cavs and Indians new arenas/stadiums), unless I misread something regarding the $1.

Actually, he would rather pay the $650 million to relocate the franchise (although I think that the other owners kick in some) than the $100 million or $200 million gap (whichever it was...slipping my mind) towards building a stadium in Mission Valley. That is one of the few things probably keeping MB from moving the Bengals...the relocation fee is probably double the value of MBS! And I don't think that the other owners like him much anyways so it is doubtful that he would get a handout vs. Spanos, who has been trying to work a stadium deal for 16 years and has been patient for most of the time.

Not siding with Spanos (as has been mentioned in this thread it is foolish to think that LA will support two teams to begin with, and being second fiddle, a'la the Clippers, is not easy), but San Diego called Spanos' bluff and lost by not getting him a stadium. Kind of an everyone loses situation. Pretty much like every season that Mike Brown begins the season as Bengals chairman.

I can report to you from LA that I have yet to hear of one person who is excited about the Chargers moving here. People are afraid it will dilute the market and lose both teams again. People here have affiliated themselves with other teams in the 20 years absence of a team. They just are not going to switch teams overnight. They need to wait for the next generation.

Good news is Stub Hub is 10 min from my house in Carson and we will take in a few games. Especially since the Browns are coming to play this year. They don't allow tailgating for MLS games at SH so it will be interesting if they allow for Chargers games. You can tailgate for Dodgers either. You can't even sit in your car and drink a beer.

Rams can because they play at USC and it's all public land that people tailgate on.

I'm not 100% sure LA is that great of a football town what with the Lakers and Dodgers there and also college football with USC and UCLA. If pro football was that great there the Rams wouldn't have moved in the first place and the Raiders would have stayed. Doesn't look well thought out to me.

I nominate the The Los Angeles La La's.

I hope they don't change their team name, Chargers have been around for years, always like their uniforms, I think ditching the Chargers have a new name just waters down the NFL brand , its really sad

storm, I agree...the only way I would like to see said change is if there was some kind of Cleveland Browns type of arrangement that allowed San Diego to keep the Chargers name and history, but judging by their unwillingness to build a stadium I doubt that they get the Cleveland type of deal.

TIITR, I obviously don't live there, but that is the same gist that I am getting from reading up on this situation. It seems like daily the Chargers are being trolled over their new working logo, etc., by THE PEOPLE OF LA!!!!! It seems that no one is happy with this move (certainly not the Chargers fans, many of the Chargers players including Phillip Rivers, the people of Los Angeles, and from the sounds of things other NFL owners and possibly even Mr. Spanos himself). Just a lousy situation that probably did not have to happen.

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't the Chargers originally from Los Angeles?

The Chargers started in LA in 1960 and moved to San Diego the next year.

At the Clippers game a few nights ago they flashed the new logo on the big screen and the place booed it. Then they showed one of their TE who was attending and they booed him too. They said the new owners were also in town.

Also it was reported on the news the other night that there are no "Chargers Bars" in the O.C.

People simply don't want them here.

If you had told me a few years ago that:

a) three teams were going to move in a five-year span and
b) two of them were going to move to Los Angeles and
c) one of the three teams moving was the Raiders and
d) the NFL somehow would end up NOT having the Raiders in L.A.

I would tell you the NFL f*ed up royally.

Raiders need to move to Vegas. That would be perfect fit for them. Chargers can then move to Oakland.
