Just an incredible outpouring of support, saddness, and respect for one of the greatest owners in the history of pro sports. Mike Brown did issue a statement on behalf of the Bengals, but even Vontez Burfict issued a statement, in many ways representative of just how admired and important he was.

RIP Mr. Rooney.

Just heard on Good Morning Football an incredible stat:

Since being appointed chairman 42 years ago, the Steelers have a total of 6 losing seasons! I remember them struggling in the 1980s so I had to look it up myself. They were wrong, it is 7, but still, 7 losing seasons in 42 years!

Here are their losing seasons:
1985 7-9 (Chuck Noll)
1986 6-10 (Chuck Noll)
1988 5-11 (Chuck Noll)
1991 7-9 (Chuck Noll)
1998 7-9 (Bill Cowher)
1999 6-10 (Bill Cowher)
2003 6-10 (Bill Cowher)
No losing seasons in 10 seasons under Mike Tomlin.

Just for fun during the same 42 years, the Bengals have 21 losing seasons. Not as awful as some of us would expect (psychostats would probably be the go to on this, but off the top of my head I am thinking the Rams, Browns, Cardinals, Bills, Jets, and Saints at least are worse, and maybe the Titans/Oilers) but still, what a difference a good owner makes.

He pleaded with his dad to hire Chuck Noll. And the rest is history.

Just a classy all-around guy. Unlike that other Delta Bravo that we have to deal with.
