Finally. An offensive lineman.

Center J.J. Dielman.

Read about the guy. Sounds too much like Eric Ghiaciuc.

Bungs draft Big Center from Utah, JJ Dielman.
Had a higher draft grade before his foot injury in October. Nice pick.
He used to play right tackle. Evals say he can play all 3 positions on the line.

I actually like the 6th round LB from Oklahoma, Jordan Evans.

Early on, Rich Eisen had a groaner about the Bungs drafting a John, a Joe, and a Jordan. Since then, they've also added a Josh, a Jake, a JJ, and another Jordan. Seven players who's first names begins with a J. We now know what Duke Tobin's draft strategy is based on.

As for the other 6th rounder, Brandon Wilson, is he a running back, a corner, or a safety? And how is it that his name doesn't begin with J?

What's really funny is reading the comments of these members of a Bengals fan group on Facebook, the vast majority of them truly believe that just because we drafted Ross and Mixon we're winning a playoff game, and some of them even think we are super bowl bound.

Homers. There will always be homers.

Here's a summary of the draft haul, adapted from NFL.com.

Cincinnati Bengals 2017 Draft Summary

Round 1, Pick 09 (009) - John Ross (WR). . . . 5'11" 188 - Washington
Round 2, Pick 16 (048) - Joe Mixon (RB) . . . . 6'1" 226 - Oklahoma . . .(pick from Vikings)
Round 3, Pick 09 (073) - Jordan Willis (DE) . . 6'4" 255 - Kansas St.
Round 4, Pick 09 (116) - Carl Lawson (RLB). . . 6'2" 261 - Auburn
Round 4, Pick 22 (128) - Josh Malone (WR) . . . 6'3" 208 - Tennessee . . (pick from Vikings through Dolphins)
Round 4, Pick 32 (138) - Ryan Glasgow (DT). . . 6'3" 302 - Michigan. . . (compensatory selection)
Round 5, Pick 09 (153) - Jake Elliott (K) . . . 5'9" 167 - Memphis
Round 5, Pick 33 (176) - JJ Dielman (OL). . . . 6'5" 309 - Utah. . . . . (compensatory selection)
Round 6, Pick 09 (193) - Jordan Evans (LB). . . 6'2" 233 - Oklahoma
Round 6, Pick 23 (207) - Brandon Wilson (S). . 5'11" 200 - Houston . . . (pick from Titans through Giants)
Round 7, Pick 33 (251) - Mason Schreck (TE) . . 6'5" 258 - Buffalo . . . (compensatory selection)

Willis will play defensive end, Lawson will play "rush linebacker," and Wilson will play safety.

That's 11 picks in total. They traded down once and picked up an extra fourth rounder, then traded up once and dropped a seventh rounder. They moved down seven spots to take Mixon and moved up 10 spots to take Wilson.

Add to that the two picks who didn't see the field last year: CB William Jackson (Round 1) and DT Andrew Billings (Round 4). It's not a good year to be a college free agent on the Bungles.

There's been a bronco sighting! Hey budro welcome back. How is the buzz out there for getting da Raiduhz? I don't know when Marvin's Menagerie of Mutant Muleheads will visit them but I'm putting my reservations for tickets in now. This, even though the cost of a ticket from CVG to LAS will likely double that week. I'm buying your beer. Welcome back.

I'm thrilled the Bungs used a pick to get a competent kicker, although I expected it to be Zane Gonzales, I'm warming up to this Elliott kid. I'm told the fact that Elliott was way better than Gonzales at kickoffs (not just field goals) is what tipped the scales in his favor. The recommendation came directly from Darrin Simmons. He also never missed an extra point in his whole four seasons. This kid could be the best kicker since Horst Muhlman. I smell a stupidbowl !!!

John Ross

No score for this post
May 8 2017, 1:18 PM

John Ross signed a four year, $17.1 million rookie contract with a $10.6 million signing bonus. And the Bengals agreed to pay his full base salary even if he has to miss his first season by going on the non-football injured list.

Does anyone here believe he'll take the field this year?

Does anyone beside me see the anguished humor of yet another 1st round draft pick missing his rookie season?

sigh

On wonder he signed it fast. That man is coining money - even if he never plays a down he's set for life. I wonder how much insurance mikey has to pay if the deal goes bad?
