The Big Favorite lost 55-24. We're back to the Jim Tressel end-days when the Buckeyes couldn't ever put a full season together. Although this game brought flashbacks to the Jim Cooper era.

Somebody around here was talking about "regression to the mean" awhile back, and this would be another good example. JT Barrett was a veritable turnover machine today, but he had lots of help in the knucklehead department. Nick Bosa got himself kicked out of the game with a really stupid perfunctory head butt. And the rest of defense was non-existent. This is what happens when you mail it in.

In college when we're talking OSU vs Iowa the talent level is always tilted massively in favor of OSU... so it's gotta be bad coaching. Let 'em get away with too much celebrating Penn St (which also got knocked off).

Mike Brown has already abused their hearts and raided their wallets. He has been a one-man plague of locusts -- Gregg Doyel

So with OSU tanking, what do we have to cheer in Cincinnati?

UC won today 17-16 at Tulane thanks to a botched FG by Tulane late in the game. UC at 3-6 is still bowl eligible but they are skating on real thin ice. In this train wreck of a year in Cincinnati you have to take whatever bone they throw at you.

UC if nothing else does have a fighters chance to finish with 4 straight wins and get into a bowl. Temple is no great shakes and they come to Nippert and ECU and UConn are 2 of the worst teams in the American. Won't be easy to finish 6-6 but it's doable if you're the Bearcats.

OSU has better talent?

Not from what I saw today. Iowa was faster, tougher, had better hands, and a better QB than OSU. Iowa receivers actually fight to catch a ball. OSU forgot to put linebackers into the game.

OSU has a bunch of track stars who can't play football.

Don't get me started on the penalties, no discipline, none all year.

As for Bosa getting thrown out of the game, it looked to me like incidental contact, nothing bad really.

College ball is getting to the point where you can't tackle someone without fear of getting thrown out of the game.

I heard that OSU's prime candidate for QB next year who committed to OSU is thinking of jumping ship and heading the Alabama. After tonight's performance I think that is all but guaranteed. Looks like more of the same the next couple of years.

Bosa did just barely enough to draw that penalty. Came in kinda late, ducked his head in just the right way at the very last moment, and smacked his helmet against the quarterback's face mask. And Bosa could see that the quarterback had already thrown the ball. That's why the play was so damn stupid. Imminently avoidable. It was as if he had never heard of that rule before.
