It's not going to be anybody that lights the house on fire, that's for sure.

Be prepared to be nonplussed.

Who will replace Marvin Lewis?

a) Paul Guenther
b) Darren Simmons
c) Bill Lazor
d) Paul Alexander (because loyalty and why not?)
e) Outsider

My Dad today was saying it was going to be Simmons. I don't know where he got that, but I want an outsider. However, I could see it being Guenther or Simmons. I haven't heard of making a special teams coach head coach, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

What they need is a real charismatic guy to overcome the bad inertia created by management. Guys like that are hard to find and typically have options. That's why Hue Jackson would be in play if he gets canned in Cleveland. But it looks like they will keep him there for another season, even with their new GM refraining from making a full endorsement.

"That's why Hue Jackson would be in play if he gets canned in Cleveland."

And soooooooo Mike Brown. Take a Coach who NOBODY ELSE WANTS...and has his teams underperforming on 2 different NFL Teams.

Hue Jackson can't go anywhere else besides the booth. Mike Brown can't hire anybody else besides in-house. I would not be shocked at all if this happens.

Did Hue Jackson blow Satan or something? This guy sucks but keeps on getting chances to walk various teams' sidelines.

WTF?!?!??!?!??!

Simmons = WHO?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!? And since I'm saying that, I wouldn't be shocked at that one either.

Or something so brainless like Urban Meyer or something like that (although Urban isn't happening).

Scenario for your consideration:

- Hue Jackson loses out in Cleveland.

- New Cleveland GM, John Dorsey, gets go-ahead to can Hue and pulls the trigger.

- Mike Brown hires Hue

- The new regime in Cleveland cuts a bunch of Hue's old players

- Hue snaps-up a bunch of his old players while in Cincinnati

I especially want JB's opinion on that last possibility, lol.

I'll tell you what. We're going to watch all these other teams interview the great candidates while Mike Brown kicks the tires on nobodies and warmed-over retreads.

Bill Lazor, anyone?

EDIT: I see that Katie mentioned him already. Nothing would surprise me now.

From the sounds of things up here in Cleveland Hue Jackson truly is a possibility. While the Haslems do plan on bringing him back, I could envision a mutual departure if/when the Cincinnati job opens up.

Only Bengals fans would be excited to acquire a coach who went 1-31 in Cleveland (which will be his record with losses this week at Chicago and next week at Pittsburgh).

HaHa Psycho......

I don't really believe there's a chance Hue Jackson ends up here unless we send them AJ McCarron in a trade. That would confirm everything we already know about Mike Brown's incompetence.

As far as raiding Cleveland's players the only one Mikey would want is Josh Gordon, he'd fit right in here.

Jeff Fisher is out there stumping for a job. This guy went boku years as a HC without ever having an offense. He'd fit in here too.

The only thing I can say with near certainty is that there will be no nationwide search. The new HC will likely be African-American because Mikey is proud of his support of the Rooney rule and frequently finds himself under Dan's desk.

I agree wholeheartedly the new HC needs to be a younger, energetic, motivational type. The exact opposite of Giggles, the sage patriarch, bore you until you ralph a squealing blue goose relic.

Is Bill 'Tiger' Johnson still alive? Homer Rice? Bruce Coslet?

I'd take an alzheimer's ridden Sam Wyche about now.

I didn't even know this but the NFL sends out their preferred list of potential head coaches every year. Here is their most recent one......

From JB's article I like Josh McDaniels. The bungs need an offense guy badly not a defense guy like Lewis. Besides he came from a winning organization and I think he needs what it takes to win. The only sticking points are he might be snapped up before mikey thinks about it and even if mikey gets him mikey is a huge sticking point as I don't think mikey will get him the right players.

The one coach that glares at me on that list....and would be a typical Mike Brown hire is no other than:

Ken Whisenhunt

Perfect Bungle Move. Wouldn't you agree? Mike Vrabel would also figure. But Ken Whisenhunt makes more Bungle sense.

He's been a Steeler Coach...and his teams underperformed at a notorious level.

I like it. Go for it, Mikey.

I also like it that the article KNOWS the Bungles have absolutely no shot at Patricia. I think Josh McDaniels is also untouchable by Mikehole.

Mike Brown will go for a low-key guy who will readily comply with his wishes. Exactly what they don't need.

- Dave Shula was an internal hire.

- Bruce Coslet was an internal hire.

- Dick LeBeau was an internal hire.

- Marvin Lewis was an external hire, but he was a guy who kept getting overlooked by other teams.

It will be one of those two possibilities. Either a coach already on the team or an outside guy who can't get a shot anywhere else. Oddly, Hue Jackson kind-of straddles both categories, but I think Cleveland is going to hang on to him. As stated above, it sounds like he doesn't want to follow Marvin as head coach in Cincinnati, but with his current 1-29 record nobody else would ever hire him. So if he does in fact get canned, there you go.

Otherwise, maybe a guy like Frank Reich would get the gig. He's 56 and never had a head coaching position before. He'd be relatively cheap and willing to settle for less control... maybe. Regarding Ken Whisenhunt, Falc could be right. If he can't get a sniff anywhere else, we could get that uninspiring choice.
