Who is an upgrade? Throw out anyone internal, College Coaches are a dumpster fire when they try it, Re-treads, nope. Could be more than 7 or 8 spots after today. So, not only does "thehole" have to find a coach, he must compete against other teams for the talent. Coaches with the talent will not work for an idiot owned "family" franchise. Face it, Jerry Jones/Jason Garrett = "hole"/Marvin. Marvin is in the drivers seat, if he walks, he will get another gig. Maybe with an real organization and not a Partridge Family band that thinks it is Metallica.

Prediction:
Marvin stays and this site will never shut down.

So Marvin's cryptic post game comments might not be so cryptic after all.

First he said he'd like to come back and coach here. But when asked if he'd come back if Mikey wanted him back he said, "it's not that simple." My amateur analysis of this is that Giggles is trying to get his coaches a raise across the board and trying to make sure his son ends up with a coaching job rather than just an internship.

I still want him gone.

But Mo Egger said that Mike Brown is no longer cheap!

You could well be right about all that, JB. I wonder how big the disparity is between what the team pays the coaches now and what they could command anywhere else. If Paul Guenther goes to Oakland to be Jon Gruden's DC, how much more would he make? The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that that may happen.

Hobson is reporting there is interest among both parties in extending the relationship. Meanwhile the reporters at PBS are being kept in the dark without status reports......just sitting there. Sounds like we're saddled with the Giggles train for another year.

It boils down to how serious is mikey in going deep in the playoffs? Can Lewis get this team to the promised land? Will a few teaser wins late in the year convince the fans the team has turned the corner? On the other hand Lewis is not happy about the way mikey handled last year's off season and getting another China doll in Ross and ignoring the OL. Will Lewis want more control in the draft? These and more are questions that we need to see answered.

I think Marvin set a list of things he wants in order to return, he is waiting to see if his requests are accepted, if they aren't Marvin will claim he was fired and Mike Brown will say he quit ala Sam Wyche

I'm listening to Cleveland sports talk today. Just had a caller regarding Hue to the Bengals that made the comment that "cheap @ss Mike Brown is still holding onto his communion money. His theory being that the Browns are waiting for the Bengals situation to resolve itself simply because Mike Brown WOULD take Hue as their coach while the Browns pat his final two years. Great take. Not sure how likely but that was pretty clever lol.

And we've kicked that idea around over here. Hue gets a chance to redeem himself as a head coach while still collecting money from Haslem, offsetting MB's cheapness for a couple of years.

Except that Hue is not getting fired, and MB will not make a trade for a head coach because... drum roll... he's too damn cheap! Not that we really even want Hue at this point, but he's probably better than any of the realistic alternatives.

By the way:

- Hue is keeping his job.

- Jay Gruden is keeping his job.

- Vance Joseph is keeping his job.

Thus the the "outside" candidates are all out the window. Mike Zimmer is on top of the world right now, but even if he were available, Mike Brown would be too foolish to hire him.

Your realistic options for the head coach in 2018 are, with likelihood estimates...

- Marvin Lewis 95%

- Paul Guenther 2.5%

- Darrin Simmons 2.5%

After yesterday's offensive performance on that last drive I would give Bill Lazor a percentage chance also.

What I also found ironic is that even with the funeral atmosphere here in Cleveland (and it has felt like that the past 23 hours once 0-16 truly sunk in) the fans here still somehow look down on the Bengals franchise. Both hilarious and at the same time astounding.

I don't have any hope with Zimmer gone we'll get a decent coach in here. Our new coach might put us in the wilderness for another 5 years before Mike Brown decides to fire him. Oh well.

The Bengals managed to squander that bit of good fortune, though. The Bengals could leave the winning Powerball ticket in a pair of pants they donate to Goodwill. ~ Doc

Hey, I heard you guys were looking for a new head coach. I just recently come available. The Ford Family finally wised up to me stealing money from them for years. I heard your owner likes guys stealing money for years...I'm looking for that same commitment from my next owner...would like to keep stealing money for "acting like a coach"...and I heard Mike Brown and Family are dumber than the Fords.

LET'S DO THIS.

P.S.
If you don't choose me, then I heard Chuck Pagano is available too. Happy Hunting!

"I think Marvin set a list of things he wants in order to return"

Lewis now has a little more leverage to make demands. In addition to the things I mentioned above maybe he wants to choose his own coaches more and want better pay for them. I thought way back when that mikey in addition to making Lewis the face of the bungles that he would relinquish more control. I don't think the control part happened. The longer this drags out the greater the chance it will be a Wyche like firing as Storm suggested.

hello y'all...

"The longer this drags out the greater the chance it will be a Wyche like firing as Storm suggested." -- my god that would be great to watch unfold...

I'd say its VERY possible. Such an embarrassment. IF it does, take a close eye at Hobspin's twitter acct afterwards... he tweeted something cryptic about Wyche drama after the Lewis report first leaked...

on to the title of the thread...

Mike is obv blind to the fact that this could blow up in his face (per the norm), and I'm not really sure (nor care tbh) what angle this is going to take at this moment. at this point, I'd say its possible 75-90% of the coaching staff is turned over - Marvin made a point to mention the other coaches (his assistant coaches) that are also in "limbo" during the press conference & there is a report circling the media that several asst coaches have long been upset at Mike for a lack of financial compensation during their run of success. Shall be interesting...

but regardless, sit back and enjoy the ride MBS. LOL

if he returns -> watching the sheep cry, then come back to PBS in masses if they win again LOL (0-8 in the postseason would be epic)

and if not -> watching the sheep rejoice, then cry months later when they realize the cronies Mike hires are million times worse & we return to the lost decade...

I don't have a feeling this will end up as good as the last time in '10 for both parties... my GUT says he's done, Mike realizes he's efffed with season ticket sales if he doesn't do something... I think the Bungs finished 31st in Tix sales in the NFL this year.

Things WILL NOT get better anytime soon if Marvin leaves...

List of Demands

No score for this post
January 3 2018, 9:34 AM

I'd love to see that list. How many were met? Are they in writing or will it be a cursory Okay from mikey. Next year will be interesting. With the two teaser wins the bungs got I bet they will get off to another slow start just like the 90's. Some things never change and that will be mikey giving up more control. I also bet the demands were cosmetic in nature. Anyone with any smarts will realize mikey is not really serious about a SB.
