Dicky's concert in U.S.

by Juliet

The concert was supposed to start at 2pm (I went for the afternoon show anyway), but did not hit off till about 2.30 pm. The producers have to wait for more people to come in since many are still gambling. Can't believe those compulsive gamblers!

The concert arena is enormous with two big screens to the left and right - I think it is very similar to the one in Genting Highlands (Kuala Lumpur). The screens showed many pictures of Dicky (from a baby till his present image) with Cantonese narration of him (a short biography).

After that, Dicky made his presence and sang one of the fast songs. He wore the same red leather pants and tight-fitting sparkling red and white shirt, with his black leather half-waist coat (like the one in Genting). After the song, he asked for 6 volunteers up the stage to play a short game/riddle -2 females, 2 males and 2 kids. As a token of appreciation, Dicky gave each of them an autographed CD (the one with all the children's songs). This girl (from New York) won the game, and she got to stayed on the stage with Dicky when he sang the next song. Dicky held her hands while singing - I could see that she was so nervous, and was shaky and wanted to faint. Anyway, she was very lucky!!

Dicky sang a number of his songs like Jan Jan Ga Ga, theme songs from Fong Sai Yuk, Duke of Mt. Deer,Wong Fei Hoong Returns, and a number of other songs from his albums. Midway, Dicky came down and shook hands with people sitting on the main floor. The security (from the production company and Taj Mahal) was so tight and there were so many people (especially girls!) rushing to shake his hands. Their ear-piercing screams filled the concert hall.

Actually, I was very annoyed with the security. I think they overdo it, and made the environment too tense. They won't allowed anyone up the stage except for one girl (I think) who wanted to give Dicky a bunch of flowers. Anyway, I was sitting in the 3rd row which is very close to the stage. When Dicky came near where I sat to shake hands, I managed to squeeze next to him and gave him a small gift and wish him "Happy Birthday". He thanked me and smiled. Dicky was wearing jeans at that time (with many pockets!!) and I saw him stuffed my small gift into one of his pockets. The guards were pushing everyone away from Dicky. In fact, the concert in Oakland (California) was much better because the producers there were nicer, and let many people go up the stage to give Dicky presents, and even chat briefly.

Teresa appeared briefly and sang a few songs. She also came down the stage and shook hands with the audience on the main floor. Anyway, the concert wrapped up at about 4pm, meaning it only lasted for 1 and half hours. It was quite short, compared to the one in Oakland which was about 2 and half hours.

I don't think anybody got an autograph from Dicky during the concert. Neither did I!! I did not take too many pictures because my digital camera was running out of battery. It was so frustrating! Hope other fans who were there took more pictures. Anyway, right after the concert, I went to see my friend who works in Asian Marketing of Chinese concerts in Taj Mahal. He saved an autographed poster (by Dicky and Teresa) of the concert for me. I was very grateful. And I was more happy the next day because I managed to talk to Dicky's mum and Dicky over the phone when I got home from the concert. I am going to write down all these experiences in my diary, especially my phone conversations. They will be part of my sweet memorable treasures to cherish in the years ahead.
