Jerry, that was a great story about your dad. I became very familiar with hospitals in the last few years of my wife's life and while she was never in the ICU as long as your father, she did spend a great deal of time there under sedation. The ICU is an incredibly scary place for patient and family but all of the nurses assigned to my wife were absolutely great and totally dedicated. One of the nurses was even instrumental in getting my wife off of the vent by bringing the doctors together at the same time to discuss what had to be done and then got it done. I always had a soft spot in my head for a nurse I knew in the army but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for all nurses for the care that they not only gave my wife but for the care they give everyone whether they be in the ICU, ER or the main hospital. God bless them all.
