Inherited Clown Collection - Clueless!!

by (no login)

My parents collected clowns for over 50 years. I have over 25 boxes of clowns now in my possession. While I appreciated their collection, I do not share their passion. There are Ron Lee's, LLadro's, Red Skelton Plates (a full set I am told), clowns from around the world, an unbelievable number of clowns from well-meaning friends that are probably of little value other than sentiment and sheer numbers, music box clowns, some still have original boxes.

I would like to sell these as a lot rather than individually as there are so many. I do not intend to retire on this sale, but I also do not want to invalidate my parents loving care and passion for these clowns by giving away the store.

Many of them have been photographed and most are cataloged, if somewhat primitively by my mother when she was still able to do so.

I need some suggestions on how to liquidate without a huge monetary outlay for elaborate photos, but retaining the dignity for my parents beloved collection.

Start collecting

by (no login)

To me, a good way to start collecting clowns, is tofind that one clown that speaks to you, that you just can't bear to leave the store without. Another way is to tell friends and loved ones about your interest in beginning a clown collection, they will help you find some real treasures. that's how mine got started. The first clown in my collection came from a restaurant during a birthday celebration... it came with the cake. It was a poercelain clown musician, the waiter signed and dated the bottom of it. Just a suggestion

HI, I have some of my collection of Emmetts to sell. I am downsizing because of other interests. These could get you started if you are interested in EKJ. I am selling well below cost and value. Let me know if you are interested in purchasing any or all.
You could start collecting by looking at garage sales, flea markets or your local gift shops. Or E-Bay always is worth checking out.

How to start collecitng - how to stop!!!!

by (no login)

I started with one clown that was given to me as a gift...it spoke to me and said get more clowns. Everyone thought I was into clowns and started giving me them for gifts. I loved them all but it's gotten out of hand. Now I have so many I need to find them new homes. I'm recently retired and it's time to simplify.

I plan on listing quite a few DaVinci Clowns and J.J. Jones clowns on Ebay - they are all in excellent condition and quite a collection. Two are Police clowns - I was in law enforcement. If your interetsed check out my ebay ID in a couple of weeks. It's DESIGNSBYSUSANKA.

Robert Owens Painting

by (no login)

I am hoping that some one has information on a piece of
artwork that I've had for some time now. It is by Clown
Artist Robert Owen. It shows a clown with the Emmit Kelly
face, sitting on top of a ball, painted like the world,
looking out towrads/over his right shoulder. In the
background, there are other faces of clowns in the clouds
all around him.

I am wondering what is the title of this piece of art, and
if possible, what year it was created. If anyone has any
information on this, I would be more than greatful.

Thanx.

I am trying to find out some information ref: Emmett Kelly Sr. painting. Emmett is sitting while reading the "Wall Street Journal". This is an Artist Proof, however, I can not make out who the artist is. The signiture is difficult to make out. I had the proof "museum quality framed" after my grandmother sent this proof to me. The gentleman told me that this portait was worth $200,000 +/- $20,000, approxiametly 10 years ago. If anyone knows what I have please help me to have the correct information as to who the artist may be and what the portrait may actually be valued at.

Hello:

I do not know if you already receive an answer to you inquiry as it was quite a long time ago that you posted your question.

However, I have just completed some research on this piece and would be pleased to discuss it with you if you care to contact me. I believe that we are talking about the same piece, but if you had a photo you could forward that would be very helpful.

The email address to send it to is: director@internetartgallery.org

clown collection

by (no login)

I have collected clowns for 30 years and am looking to appraise and sell the vast majority of my clowns. Items range from clown material, toys, figurines, cookie jars and etc... I'm particularly interested in the value of a Schoenut Humpty Dumpty catalog from 1922 w/ accompanying clown and a Ron Lee clown holding a clock statue from 1980. Is the internet the best way to sell my collection or would I do better to go the tradional route of a toy show? Your help would be appreciated.

Help!!

by (no login)

I purchased a collection several years ago from a yard sale and have been unable to identify the artist. There are large and small pieces that all look to be from the same artist the small pieces are on marble bases and the figures rotate on the base. The large pieces are a red headed clown with a mallet and a clown seated on a ball with a seal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an Emmett Kelly, Jr. bust of which I am wondering its approximate value. It is about 10" to 12" tall and about 14" wide. It is made of a heavy material; the kind I do not know. It also has a closed base. The initials "EKJ" are on the front side of his clothing. There are no other identifiable marks on this piece.

sad, pondering clown

by (no login)

Hi y'all!

I'm looking for a clown picture/painting that may or may not exist. I had a dream once that in my later years I'd be a sorry old drunk who sideshows as a clown and mops up an old, dingy night club in Las Vegas in the morning hours after dawn (after late night shows and parties). Some other sad old clown drunks are at the same time as I am mopping, gathered around a piano laughing and singing that old song "Hey little girl, time to get ready for school". I look out a propped open door at the sunlight of a new day as I stand there chin on hand, resting on the end of the mop with a sad, melencoly look on my face, pondering 'what might have been' as the other sad/happy clowns keep playing "Hey little girl" in tha background.

Are there any paintings out here that might dipict a scene like this?

Thanks,
Wayne

Ron A Lee clown sitting on a barrell holding a clown puppet

by (no login)

Hello. My husband and I received this clown figurine for our wedding in 1981. It's been in our bedroon closet for the last 27 years and I'm ready to get rid of it. I have no idea how much it's worth. The only problem is, it has a broken arm that has been glued back on, so I know the value will be less than normal. It is signed and numbered. It still has its tag attached that says it has been hand planted in 24K gold. And there's a lot of gold on this one. It has a large stone base.I don't know for sure if it's marble or quartz or what. Are you interested in giving me an offer on it?

Hi Jayne

I am a collector or clowns and have many of the Ron Lee's. Ron Lee's World of Clowns is located at 330 Carousel Pkwy., Henderson, NV 89014. Telephone 702-434-1700. This is on the outskirts of Las Vegas. I'm sure Ron, Jill (His wife), Ron or Gail will be helpful.

Good luck,
