Latest news: Colchester denied victory at Adams Park by a late equaliser. The U's had a penalty appeal turned down after Scott McGleish's third goal within a week had given them the lead shortly after half-time. Dean Morgan made another substitute appearance and young French midfielder Thomas Pinault started after having made two impressive appearances for the first team earlier this week. Attendance: 7,516.

At the end of the last two seasons, Colchester United have finished in 18th position with 52 points. Season 2000/01 showed a welcome improvement as we managed an additional 5 points, and ensured safety by finishing 17th. Optimism is growing in Colchester, and many fans believe we have the potential to make the play-offs next season. Only time will tell.....

Pretty convincing, although the elusive 'Forum Owner' title is missing. Good effort though.

I would delete it but it's much more fun to leave it there for all to see.

What would you say to writing a regular column or match reports if and when I expand into a website?

Spamming

by

You can write what you want here mate - I don't give a sh*t because it'll all be reset when my website's up and running. It's highly unlikely anyone read your message because the forum is very unpopular at the moment and I'm not even gonna bother trying to increase the number of hits. I'll simply launch an advertising campaign when the website's ready.

I was impressed by the articles you showed me before and it's just what I'm looking for. Would you prefer to do a regular column or match reports?

The whole website thing is looking very promising, although I still can't promise anything.

I won't be able to get to many matches next season though cos I have a Saturday job...

Hmm...

A regular column would suit me best I think- my match reporting is infamous for being unashamedly biased and partisan, and I presume that you're looking for 'objective' and 'balanced' accounts, which I'm just not capable of writing!

FAO everyone: Next season

by

Next season I plan to regularly update the latest news section, and hopefully introduce many new features to keep you interested. There will be competitions, and I may even make this forum into part of a whole website devoted to Colchester United. Remember I'm doing this for your benefit, so please don't hesitate to suggest any improvements that could be made. I want to make you feel part of what's going on.

Feel free to e-mail me at sion@appleonline.net if you have any competition ideas, or anything else you'd like to discuss regarding this message board or Colchester United. Don't be afraid to point out mistakes because I will strive to make this into the best Colchester United forum on the web.

I will also be recruiting moderators and such like to keep the ball rolling while I am away. If I do expand into a website I will also be looking for willing and able match reporters. Another area where I may need help would be if I was to set up a Fantasy Football competition. Again, if you think you can help, drop me a line. Any help is welcome and will be greatly appreciated.

Roll on 2001/02...

new season

by

How about setting up a remote fanbase page. I live in Northwich and looked at the Vics site which has a list of their fans, where they are (i.e. town name) with e-mail addresses (optional) should you wish to contact them.
While I am aware that the U's have a small Swedish following, it would be interesting to know where the rest of the U.K. outcasts are.

As for match reporting, I would give it a go especially for the northern away games but fear that my passion for the match may outdo the desire to note the subtleties of the game!

Anyway, I'm pleased to see that you're trying to make a go of this forum.

Good luck

Simon.

Suggestions

by

Cheers for the ideas. I could set up fans profiles or something if you want. People could e-mail me photos and maybe meet up at matches - what do you think?

Thanks for offering to report on matches - I'll see what I can do. I'll try and find the time to make it into a proper website for next season. I'm pretty busy this summer though so I can't promise anything.

Keep coming back for the latest news and announcements!

The photo idea is a good one, you could have a rogues gallery with a photo, a small datafile in a top trumps (blimey, what happened to them?) style.
It would be a giggle.

Rogues gallery

by

Just what I was thinking! Visitors, of course, would have to accept the risks of having their photo online. I've got loads of ideas but it all depends on how much time I can find.

I won't give anything away but what I will say is that I will be looking to take on many new staff. I have some great ideas in the pipeline and hopefully the website will take off. With my studies next year, I'll need all the help I can get. The summer holidays start next week so I'll start work on it as soon as possible.

If you want to help, send me an e-mail (click on my name) and I'll tell you what I'm looking for.

Very depressing... I'll doubt I'll be making the effort to get to many home games next season unless we start playing some football. Goals are an unknown quantity in Colchester right now. We might have a watertight defence but we need a goalscorer, and we need one now.

If the rumours are true then it is certainly an encouraging sign for the future. It's something we should have been doing months, even years, ago. Apparently we tried loaning Defoe but Bournemouth had first pick.
