After our discussion, I started a new FO2 BAR. Dumbomb (Smart Weapon's duller brother) finished boxing with Frankie this morning. It was slightly longer than the last fight I had, but not too bad. Though I did get an eye injury that lowered my PER by 4 points. (I tried to get ACE to fix it, but the damn thing doesn't even seem to notice I was half blind!) Here is his bare stats, to the best of my memory. Dumbomb. Jinxed trait. STR 8 PER 9 CHA 1 INT 1 AGI 10 LUK 1 That Jinxed trait did pay off one time, when the end boss got a critical miss and lost all his ammo. Of course, that just meant the boxing at the Enclave ring would start sooner. Other than that, Frank seems immune to critical failures in melee mode. Overall, this character was just a brute built specifically to punch things hard. And he did pretty well, even with that 1 Luck and being jinxed. A few observation: - If you are into combat and don't care much about the story, or the side quests. This type of character is ideal. - Unarmed is an excellent skill for this type of chars. Weak in the beginning, but becomes very strong in the middle and end game. As a bonus, it doesn't rely on LUCK too much, compared to some ranged attacks. - LUCK seems to play more role for Small Guns, and especially the Sniper perk. It does say this in the perk description, but I never realized how much until now. Even with 300 skills in Small guns, the Sniper perk, and a 9 PER, my attacks was almost identical to normal attacks. And I still had critical misses. Along with a hilarious episode of a gun blowing up in my hand. Gotta love that Jinxed trait. ;) - Energy weapon on the other hand, seems to work well in the later stages. Even with 1 LUCK and Jinx, if your Energy weapons skill is high enough you will do some very nice damage. I have a suspicion that diplomatic peacemaker types would face more challenges. Barbarians do well in the wasteland battlefield, though the lack of exp. from no access to side quests can hurt. Diplomats or non combat heavy chars on the other hand, will probably have a hard time in the combat oriented quests. I guess the challenge would be keeping your NPC friends alive to protect you. But this is what I love about FO1 & FO2 char system. There is no such thing as the uber build. Sure there's the popular build, but the checks and balances in this game works amazingly well. The more I play it, the more amazed I am. * FOT. I played the demo too. I heard some mixed reviews about this game. It didn't achieve that 100% Fallouty atmosphere either, but it might tie me over until FO3 or FOOL (Fallout Online) comes out. Or I can just play FO1 and 2 again. ;)
