I guess this can be a kind of follow up to the last post, entitled 'Decision Time'....
Estrada was placed on the DL today with a 'sore shoulder.' Thats a pretty suspicious injury, considering he's appeared in just 2 games this year and threw less than 5 innings in Spring. But, it likely clears room for the return of either Chouinard or Acevedo. At least thats what I thought.
But when I read into the transaction wire, it said we had recalled Tim Christman to take his place. You have to be happy for him.
Christman is the Cinderella Story of Rockies pitching. After enduring 3 seperate surgical procedures on his left arm in 3 minor league seasons, Christman impressed the new manager Buddy Bell in Spring Training 2000. Bell was pleased enough to say he certainly would consider calling up Christman if there was an injury in the pen, even knowing he had never pitched above A-ball. Christman went back to AA ball after spring.
Then disaster struck.
After only 10 innings at AA Carolina, Christman tore his rotator cuff and was forced to sit out the season. Christman had struck out 202 hitters in 160 and 2/3 minor league innings, but could not maintain a healthy arm.
Then a determined Christman showed up at Rockies camp in 2001. The lefty again impressed Bell and nearly made the team out of Spring. He proved his arm was healthy and proved he could get major league hitters out.
In the 8 and 2/3 innings he has thrown for the Springs this year, Christman struck out 7 batters, walked one, and allowed only 2 runs. Now he's healthy and ready to win. Christman makes for an excellent third lefty out of the pen.
So, in sumnation, this post does not help to clear up the previous post, 'Decision Time.' It further confuses it.The Rox Reference Fans Network(http://www.expage.com/roxreference)
