These are a few of the hundred or so photographs from the day out with Rex and Heather researching the URU.

When I first noticed the bird beside the track its eyes were both closed. As I motioned to Rex it opened one eye. These birds cannot move their eyes as we do,-unless they move their entire head.

As this bird was asleep and or possibly waiting for for a meal the first shots show the owl with it's eye closed, then as it realises we are nearby it opens one eye and while still looking forward-we were to the right, it tries to keep us in view.

Eventually our talking woke it up completely. In the past year I have been fortunate while in the bush to have birds sit still for the camera.

These images are ©. If you want to use them just ask first thanks. I have full screen images of all the photographs as well. If anyone has any photos they would like to share I can add a page for your images with full credit.
