Giant Lizards in Gippsland
I used to live on a farm in Gippsland, in the Latrobe Valley to be precise. On the farm we had 185 acres of old growth natural bush, it was the largest patch of natural bush in the area, and consequently had quite a concentration of wildlife. Occasionally one would see some of the very large monitor lizards that inhabited the bush block.
Supposedly the Perentie is the biggest Aussie lizard, well these things were way bigger than that, perhaps about the same length as a perentie, but built like a komodo Dragon.
The big ones were massive, they had a head like an aligator and claws as big as my fingers. I would have estimated they're weight to be similar to a grown man. I wonder if they were a known species which was allowed to grow beyond normal size because of the abundant food, or an undiscovered species.
