In ring demeanor: Don't let his pious rhetoric fool you. In the ring Gabriel Sands is relentless. He will look to put you down quickly, but if you happen to be part of his "mission" expect a sadistic turn to prolong the pain. Being an enforcer is in his brutal nature, as most of his tactics come from a no rules combat system. He is not above getting a disqualification if the message done to his opponent clarifies the goal.
Unique Abilities: Gabriel is not human, although he does bleed and feels pain. He can be knocked unconscious as his creators desired for him to blend in with the human population. His overall body was constructed of clay by artisans residing in Heaven. There is no proof that Sands is an immortal, but he has been known to recover in time from what could be considered mortal wounds. The test of his limits is an on going discovery as he has been "executed" several times only to remain alive. (See History Below) Sands also has an ability to appear behind an opponent if they happen to lose sight of him. This phenomenon has never truly been classified, and it seems to happen only when an opportunity presents itself.
Skills: Sands is an accomplished combat soldier. He prefers close combat but he has been known to wield a vast array of weapons. Basically, he has no problem using the right tool for the job at hand. Sands is also an accomplished Bodyguard and Enforcer. He understands what is needed to accomplish a goal, even if what is needed is underhanded or down right criminal. Gabriel also can comprehend anything that he reads. This skill is also something that Sands is struggling to understand. When presented with a book or text on a subject, if given a day or two he will understand all facets of the subject represented in the reading, including opposite views points and perspectives of the subject matter. This gives him a clear stance on moral ground issues versus political propaganda, and or spin on a certain subject. What he chooses to do with this information however is clearly up to him. This kind of compass allows him to clearly choose which side in a conflict based on his ordained beliefs and the will of God according to the teachings of his celestial mentors.
Powers: When facing a creature of infernal origin, most commonly demons Gabriel's hands become bright blue blades of light. This power's strength and longevity is controlled by not Sands but by his devotion to his faith. It is a weapon to vanquish demonic creatures given to him by the Celestials. However this power doesn't always kick in. The Celestials understand that there are limits to the reach of faith. Therefore lesser creatures may be destroyed while higher demonic forces may just be wounded or simply blinded by the weapon. There have only been a few instances where this power has appeared for Gabriel.
Sands also gains endurance, strength, and agility based on his adrenal levels. Being built for conflict, Gabriel's body reacts to the level of stress and physical harm done to him. Muscles increase energy output allowing Gabriel to strike and lift with increased force. No records or tests have been done to document the limits of this ability, but Gabriel has been known to increase his strength given his size and build twenty five percent on average. This also allows a more conditioned, agile body based on the amount of punishment Sands is taking. This package amounts to a formidable adaptive machine in the field.
Being made of a unique substance, Sands has a healing factor thirty times more potent than the average human being. Open wounds may heal in an hour compared to days. A more serious wound requires rest and Gabriel's body will shut down to repair the damage done.
History:
The origins of Gabriel Sands began as somewhat of a nightmare. Born on the Southside of Chicago in 1911, Gabriel's childhood is a mystery. Nothing is truly known about how he became a man until his own recollections much later. Invested in the Bootlegging prohibition operations of rival gangs Capone and Moran, Sands learned how to live the life of a mobster's soldier. Every detail about surviving a massive gang war was thrust upon him until his capture by Capone's men ended his life. To his own surprise, Sands after being eviscerated and dumped into the river recovered several days later and became so full of vengeance that his deeds of mass murder ended him up in Joliet Maximum security prison. There he was sentenced to death for his crimes. Electrocuted, Gabriel recovered from the fatal attempt. State officials sent him to Alcatraz where he was hanged twice. Wearing the scar on his neck from the rope he walked the halls a mythic monster unable to die for his horrible crimes. It was here the nickname "The Boogeyman" started resonating. Eventually the statute of his murders and sentence began to run dangerously thin. Such a man could not be unleashed to roam about in society. The federal government attempted three more executions, first by firing squad, the gas chamber, and finally a lethal injection. Yet Gabriel survived them all.
Eventually Sands ended up in Leavenworth sealed behind a vault. It was here that he remained for twenty more years. Time had not aged Gabriel a single day since his recollection in the thirties. His mind however had been haunted with a curse, a belief that he would be locked behind concrete walls and a sealed door forever.
But the events of the Cataclysm destroyed Leavenworth and allowed Gabriel to force his way free. With a taste of fresh air for the first time in nearly thirty years Gabriel sought the man responsible for his freedom. Being loyal to crime bosses, he discovered Undead Enigma's role in the world disaster and became his right hand thug. Serving as a malevolent Enforcer Sands grew to learn the workings of a ring and how to deal with the creatures that inhabited it. Engaged in yet another conflict, Sands was instrumental in various nefarious events that destroyed the structures of the creature wrestling organizations. Known as a true monster he reveled in the infamy, becoming an officer in the fight against Kveldulf the Reaver's House of Ivory. It was battling Reaver's forces where the body of Gabriel Sands was destroyed. His captured essence however still remained.
Introduced to the record keepers and watchers of humankind The essence was told of his true purpose on Earth. An oversight, a mistake made by those who had first created him, Gabriel was set adrift knowing nothing of his mission. Instead the forces of evil corrupted him and he became lost to the Celestials. What was intended, was somewhat miraculous. Angels, grand minds influencing humanity throughout time built a construct to aid Humans against the Infernal demons harvesting their innocent souls. A medium force for the Celestials he was to have guided them and fought evil toe to toe on the Earthen plane. But now the Earth needed a champion more than ever. Enigma and his hordes of dead had Humanity on it's dying days. Eden was in ashes. North America was a wasteland. The world had few safe havens left. A new pact was made to return Gabriel to his original task.
A new body was reconstructed, as well as preparation against the Hell he would soon be combating against. Armed with the knowledge that his past was a mistake and he was destined for a greater conflict Gabriel accepted his new mission with full devotion, even discovering undying faith having been shown that heaven exists and God does as well.
But having returned to Earth as it remained choking on evil's deathly grip, Gabriel began a pilgrimage back to the source of all of the destruction. Faced with his new mission he encountered a devious monster demonic creature in which he fought hand to hand against. Given the power to destroy the fiend with a fiery blue flame on the edge of his fists, Gabriel discovered that faith was also his weapon. Determined, he continued onward encountering The Dark Requiem who became intrigued by this new development on Earth. But their meeting was short lived as the destruction of this world came to pass at the hands of Undead Enigma's megalomania.
Lost on a dead world, Gabriel had believed he had failed. Yet he was one of the chosen to arrive before the old world blinked out of existence. The circumstances of his arrival were not clear to him, but this arena had not been invaded by all of the demon's influences. There was still time.
His arrival to the DWF brought him like minded heroes to associate with, for there was much evil to be fought. A faction was created, deemed "The Saints" and here Gabriel became very vocal about their intentions. However, the time for action was now, and Gabriel became restless. The group split keeping the name to operate under a more action oriented banner. The militant philosophies of the Saints catered to Gabriel's methods much more than the platform he was using before. Operating in the underground the group instigated and executed several attacks on influences related to the business and corruption of Hell. The battle for souls was being taken to an escalated level.
The Vatican soon approached Gabriel and began giving the Saints information about even more nefarious practices. The cause was gaining momentum, and soon Gabriel expanded the roster with a find of his own. Alistaire Grai was a young man who had dropped out of the priesthood, fearing his gifts would be used for side show miracles. He was a skeptic and bitter about the perversions of his faith. Sands approached him and through a baptism of fire proved to him that there was a battle to be fought. Grai joined Gabriel and began using his metal forming abilities along with his telekinetic ability to build devices that would aid the Saints cause. But something sinister was looming over all of them.
Phelan the elder saint turned up missing only to return several days later. His sons argued over what should be done while Gabriel pondered his next move. Phelan remained catatonic scarred by the unseen horrors endured. This prompted the younger Saints to search for answers. It was this action that destroyed the Saints. In a battle with Undead Enigma which left the necromancer's mansion in ruins, the two Sons were killed trying to escape the dead forces that overwhelmed them. Gabriel encountered Alistaire slitting the throat of Phelan revealing his true nature.
A puppet of Nobunaga the Soulshatterer, the young boy had given him his soul in order to infiltrate the group. Gabriel battled Alistaire taking him down but not before taking several battle scars and discovering that the Unholy Trinity demons bent on ultimate corruption of the soul along with complete chaos were prominent on this world.
The battle left Gabriel to give his fallen allies last rites. Shedding his flashy speeches for a blessed mace he now realizes what he must do has to be done alone. He now walks the DWF, clear in his mission.
