tacky? Basilio acted lost and like he did not have a clue! Do you suppose Tony has never heard of the REAL 990 Eric? Tony sounds pure sheep today.

That's classless....

November 30 2001, 3:01 PM

I don't understand why someone would need to do that. That really is a sad deal. I hope the affliction that Eric has, never hits "Phake Eric's" kids or anything. Is that what 1240 has turned into? A station where people get to act like they're in 7th grade? I hope Tony looks into this, because Eric seems to be a good kid....he just has an affliction.

We have some impersonators that frequent this board. I won't name their names, but people know who they are if they've ever heard T-mail. I hope it wasn't one of them, but on the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I can't believe Tony has never heard "Eric" call in on 990. Eric has been calling for years, and his only fault is that he is a Vol fan, THROUGH AND THROUGH.

Karma is a funny thing sometimes, and sometimes what comes around, goes around 3 fold!

low brow

November 30 2001, 3:08 PM

Pretty mean-spirited, and a waste of air time.

It's one thing to call in and stir up the sheep by expressing unpopular opinions or bad mouthing the Vols--I even enjoy that as a Vol fan, but that was completely uncalled for.

Sad!!!

November 30 2001, 3:14 PM

Another reason why I don't listen to Tony's show. Too many adolescents on there. Apparently. I'm not in the minority. I saw in the News-less Sentinel last week that John and Jimmy outdraws Tony by almost 4 times the listeners. Without people like that calling, it's not surprising.

Are you sure that Phake Eric wasn't that guy shooting at people on 640 last night? The police said he was drunk. That seems to be the standard excuse.

Tony lost on that deal!

November 30 2001, 3:39 PM

Was it Phake Phil as Phake Eric or Eric as Phake Phil?

Was it BeaveJethro as Phake Phil as Phake Eric or was it Eric as BeaveJethro or Phake Phil?

No Eric has more class than that. I just hope whoever called apologizes to Tony & the listeners & never has a child or relative with a handicap. Somehow, I don't think that caller has yet.

If some of these callers have a problem with Tony Basilio, they need to bring it on the air, instead of using other callers in an attempt to stand without their diapers drooping.

Hmmm...

November 30 2001, 3:49 PM

now I didn't hear the call, but in reading Beave's angry post, (by the way, he never denied anything) that tells me a little about the caller's identity.

That's a shame Beave. That's a true shame that you could be that cruel. I hope you sleep well tonight!

This is an example of Tony B.'s true character

November 30 2001, 4:12 PM

Tony knew what was coming, I'm 100% sure of that. His call screener knew what was up, and Tony darn sure knows who Eric the caller is. Anyone that disputes that is living in fantasy land.

I've listened to a total of one hour of Basilio this week, but I did hear "Fake Eric" call in. It was deplorable. And Tony is deplorable for taking the call, and then letting the guy go on and on. Inexcusable.

And while I've got the gloves off, I heard him say either yesterday or Wednesday that Bobby Bowden is the moral equivalent of a Taliban general. Puh-leeeese!!! Bowden runs a loose ship, it's true, but put a bridle on it, Tony! You've got to be one of the most irresponsible and imflammatory radio guys in the world. If there's a WWF radio network out there, they may top your nonsense crap. But it would be a close race between you and Terry Landell, if he had a radio program.

I'm sorry if this post pisses off some of my buds on this board, as I know that we're linked to 95.7fm. But Basilio needs to host a professional rasslin' show. He truly missed his calling. I'd start listening to him again if he hosted "This Week in the WWF". It would be the perfect fit. And maybe he'd get the "priviledge" to kiss Vince McMahon's a$$.

I'm pissed and I'm out. Ban me if you need to.

Absolutely despicable

November 30 2001, 5:05 PM

It surely takes a mental giant to perpetrate such a deplorable stunt. Eric is a good kid, who absolutely loves THE BIG ORANGE and shows a tremendous amount of courage just by calling 990. The times I have heard him call, he was always treated with dignity and respect by the Sportstalk crew and I appreciated that.

I think all the regular next level callers should get on TB's a_ _ and hold him accountable.

Unfortunately This Is The Type Of Call ....

November 30 2001, 5:18 PM

that Basilio's show is known for.
****
I've openly wondered for years, when someone would call in on Tony's show imitating "Eric The Tennessee Fan", unfortunately today was the day.
****
I heard that call and I must admit it wasn't entertaining or flattering.
****
Its a shame that TB can't find the right mix between sports information and entertainment. I realize the show's regulars like Plumbervol, Phil, KJ, Al, Beave, Fake Phil and even my friend JC believe sportstalk shows evolve around the caller but in reality a sportstalk is about Sports.
*****
The callers to a sportstalk show are like a ketchup on a hot dog-- a caller can make a show better, but the meat of a (Sports) talk show is the news and information provided by the host.
****
A lot of you guys talk about sheep, but the truth is, you folks are the sheep. Tony Basilio has been doing his show your way for nine years now --- and the latest sportstalk radio ratings are not just a rejection of Tony's methods-- it's also a rejection of you knuckleheads. Not only does a show like this not sell to a majority of the listening public, it doesn't sell to the majority of the advertisers in the community either.
*****
BTW, I never thought I'd see the day where I would listen to AM 990 primarily and just switch it over to Basilio during the breaks.

So, beave,

November 30 2001, 6:32 PM

was it you or just someone who ate lunch with you? We know it was not lunchmate 99JC. If your buds can try to beat up on Eric's reputation, surely you can stand up & tell us who made the aforementioned call. Beating up on someone's reputation when they cannot hit back is certainly your style.

Cement ponds abound in leafy West Knoxville.

I brought this subject up for just this reason. I can now safely say that Tony and his buds come in and lurk. They need to see this thread

Guys, I didn't get to discuss the Phake Eric call w/

November 30 2001, 8:01 PM

Basilio today, but either tomorrow or when he gets back I will tell him he needs to apologize on the air. Does TB know the aim of the Phake Eric call? I have no idea, but I'll clue him in if he doesn't.

I guess from the paragraph above you can guess I thought the call was low rent. However, another fella I work with also heard the call & got a big kick out of it. I guess opinions are just like....

Brocky,

Maybe I am the resident liberal BUT!! what the hell! What is the chance of finding Eric and bringing him into a show of the Lettermen? Hell I will pick him up and bring him. If not I know damn well Dewey Warren will sign him some autographs and talk with him. This dude is a caller to shows just like I am! He got snackcaked. I cannot with my consciense kicking my ass allow Eric to get snackcaked while encouraging folks like myself to play the this game. brocky if you have a hair on your ass you have to help me with this. Lets get Eric some props!!

Re: New Caller Phake Eric hits the airwaves,

Obviously, I didn't hear the call.

But Todd did. Shocking. After all his bitterness toward Tony, he still listens to his program.

I'm in the "lighten up" crowd on this one. I'm willing to bet that Eric's dial never leaves 990.

I think an apology on the air is absurd, and draws more attention to the call. If you don't think it was a big deal, then no apology is neccessary. If you were offended, then reliving the call makes no sense. To whom exactly are you apologizing? Half (or more) of the listeners to the apology won't know what you're referencing, since radio listenership changes constantly. Are you going to replay the call for those who missed it, then apologize? Why?

I'm not saying it's right or anything, but on the air here in NY, making fun of a learning disabled person on a radio show is relatively tame stuff. Doesn't make it right, but in the grand scheme of things, a single call to a show isn't that important.

Why doesn't Tony apologize to JC for banning him?

December 1 2001, 10:23 AM

I've been looking for JC's slander in his posts and have yet to find it.

Phil & Gray

December 1 2001, 12:56 PM

Phil, don't know if you were listening but JC came through loud & clear today on the program. I've not talked to TB about the "ban", but my guess is he was just trying to get the Sheep stirred up during Fla week, but I'm not certain.

The funny thing about TB's "bans" is they generally last about 3-5 days.

Gray, the more I thought about it last night the more I agree with you that the Phake Eric call out to be simply left alone. Like yourself, I doubt his dial ever goes to 1240 since he's & regular caller on the other channel but has never called into TB. Therefore, I say to never bring it up but also be CERTAIN no one else gets through with that parody again. JMO.

Gray, you are right!

December 1 2001, 1:06 PM

Replaying or bringing attention would not help this at all. Does not mean that I will not try to somehow hook Erik up with some ex-players and some talk. Hopefully he missed this, and no one clues him in on this. Not a proud day. If I am right we will never hear of Phake Erik nor will Tony and staff allow him on.

I heard JC representin today on the next level. Tony seemed to fade away during his call. JC will neither stay gone for long nor be forgotten! I know BT has/will clue Tony and staff in on the Erik situation.
