Many of you have asked the following question of me:
"If you don't root for anyone, why the hell do you follow sports?"
I'll tell you.
First, I'm one of the most competitive people you'll ever meet. That's why I moved here to pursue a music career. I wanted to be where I thought the best in my field were. Even if I eventually fail, I bust my ass to be the best I can be.
I love a great, hard-fought contest in almost any sport. I love it when two competitors bring out the best in each other.
I equally hate it when I think that someone is not getting the most out of what they have, whether it be in terms of talent, resources, opportunities, etc.
That said, after re-watching the game, I can honestly say that it is highest level - from start to finish - college football game I have ever witnessed. This is in terms of big plays being made by both teams, on both sides of the ball.
One could disagree about UF's defense, but don't forget the two turnovers they forced in the first half. Offensively for UF, Grossman made some incredible plays. The bomb inside the one for UF's first TD was an amazing throw and catch. Don't forget their best RB was injured. For them to even be close to UT, as well as UT was playing, is a testament to UF's toughness as a team. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying UF would have won with Graham, but his injury did change their strategy.
But the bigger, badder, better players/coaches were Claussen, Stevens, UT's lines, and UT's coaching staff.
So this is what I appreciate about sports. I hated being wrong about UT. Even worse, I hated coming here to admit it to all you SHEEP. Hell, I hope they fall flat on their face Saturday. I think it would be hilarious. That is highly unlikely, though.
The bottom line is, this UT/UF was a game for the ages, whether you're a UT fan, a UF fan, or just a sports fan, like myself.
UT came up big. Even though I cheer against them, I can't deny a winner when I see one. Especially after watching the game a second time.
Without going the touchy feely route of a motivational speaker, or getting in touch with the inner you on an anylists coach, I will brave a guess.
I accept you are a motivated guy you strives for excellence. I accept that you appreciate a well played sport and comment based on merit and not loyalty. BUT I DAMN well know you love a good argument and get your jolly's from good CONFROsation
Another personality change?
Look I can appreciate a hard charger, go getter. That's a big part of what its all about. I feel that at times you fail to recognize the human element or at least have a distorted sense of what you perceive when you think you do. I fully realize that you did not solicit a response from me, but you got candid so what the hell.
Over the last few years we have had some killer exchanges and I will leave you with this. One day if your back in Knoxville, shoot me an e-mail heads up and we will drink a beer or two somewhere of your choosing. We can bring seconds if you like. But I doubt that it would be necessary.
First, 9/11. I was open and honest about my appreciation for the posters here. Like I wrote then, when your family is in danger, the whole SHEEP/The ones with brains (ha ha, just kidding) thing seems silly.
Second, I watched the Yanks, who I actually WAS cheering for, blow a 7th game, 9th inning lead with Mariano Rivera on the mound.
Now, Fulmer goes and takes a team to The Swamp, and kicks Spurrier's ass in every phase of the game.
It's like God is saying, "Hey, back off a little."
In fact, I make my living teaching music lessons at about 9 schools in the NYC area.
I teach mostly in the Bronx, but also teach a lot in Queens. One of my schools in Queens, is Christ The King High School, where Chamique Holdsclaw attended.
I'm teaching more, and pursuing the performing less, because we have a soon-to-be three year old child, and my wife stays home with him. Teaching is more steady with regards to income, health insurance, etc.
Grohl is one of my favorite musicians/songwriters.
psycho-babble. Noone gives a rat's ass why you hate UT. BTW, you never gave the REAL reason, did you? Most posters have gotten you figured out.
You are all style and ZERO substance. You have no loyalties, no passion, but seem to have all the answers. You post here to stir up the sh** with the sheep and that is all. If a sheep says the sky is blue, you'd argue for 3 weeks that it was brown.
You ridicule those that are mentally disabled, yet you denounce "Phake Eric". Whatever. I still remember that thread punk.
Just revel in your mediocrity. Just revel in your pro sports market. We'll root for the Vols, listen to Basilio, and win rings.
You can root for your sold out free agent pro players, listen to your little Bob Kemp overloops at 2am, and visit us on your vacations.
KNOXVILLE TENNESSEE...GRAY'S ANNUAL VACATION DESTINATION....HE CAN'T GET US OUT OF HIS SYSTEM!!!!

Pasadena here we come!
Anybody else want on board?
If you'll recall, we were both present at Lucille's one evening several years back, and I was the drummer that night. When WAS that, by the way (HELPFUL HINT: When's the last time you had a girlfriend)?
By the way, Chuck Cavalaris (who had apparently met his golf column - "How grass grows" - deadline for the next day) was in attendence, and was "the guy with the lampshade" for the evening.
His drunken antics included pissing in a potted plant, while the jazz band played, "Gentle Rain."

"I doubt anyone cares about your psycho-babble. Noone gives a rat's ass why you hate UT. BTW, you never gave the REAL reason, did you? Most posters have gotten you figured out."
Indecipherable, blue-collar SHEEP speak.
"You are all style and ZERO substance. You have no loyalties, no passion, but seem to have all the answers. You post here to stir up the sh** with the sheep and that is all. If a sheep says the sky is blue, you'd argue for 3 weeks that it was brown."
This is a typical, anger-driven, weak paragraph from you. You are driven purely by your emotions in this world. You think your hysteria translates into effective communication. Once again, your completely simple and one-dimensional (Example: "When can I get to work, so I can post?") existence is exposed.
"You ridicule those that are mentally disabled, yet you denounce "Phake Eric". Whatever. I still remember that thread punk."
Have no idea what you're referencing. Typical accusation with no back-up. You've been leveling them at Brocky all week. Or in your case, "weak".
"Just revel in your mediocrity."
I'm far from it bud. I would bet my life that your situation is far more mediocre.
"Just revel in your pro sports market. We'll root for the Vols, listen to Basilio, and win rings."
Who is "we"? This is when you look your most insecure VH. You can't say "me vs. you". You have to be part of some mythical alliance, or you feel vulnerable.
"You can root for your sold out free agent pro players, listen to your little Bob Kemp overloops at 2am,"
Bob Kemp would eat your sorry, home-grown, disillusioned ass for a snack. Ask anyone who's heard him. You crave praise on a recruiting board, instead of seeking therapy for your insecurities that lead you to post on the Internet all day, instead of EARNING a living.
If that's not a hate driven post than i don't know what is but I agree VH don't feel alone. The reason he VH says we because you won't find many people around here like yourself. People around here care about things. Their passionate about their beliefs. I would think after bringing a child into the world it would open up your eyes and give you a reason to stand up for something, instead of just sittin back and criticizing everything suggested. I complement you for admitting to a great win when you see one, but I would shake your hand if you were admitting to a defeat because you have a team or a stance that you represent. People around here care about things. We are the first to got to war and the last to abandon our country. Thats why we are the volunteer state and we take pride in it. That's what makes us tick.
Let me help you? And why did Tennessee have the most volunteers per capita in the war of 1812? Back to my point. We care about things, we stand up for what we believe in, and we take stands.
if not the best poster on this board. He will never submit to the sheep spin that so many (myself included) fall for from time to time. That's why sheep like vh dislike him so much and why you'll constantly hear them say "who cares" or "I own your ass". Matter of fact, Gray knows his sports, and he'll come on here and battle with the best of them.
VS, I see you're turning into one heck of a sheep. Expect your official volhunter "welcome to the club" post soon. It'll say something like this: "VS don't worry about Gray, I've been punking his ass for a long time and he still doesn't understand that I OWN him."
I don't doubt his way with words. It's his motives I wonder about. I have some friends like that. They usually say things to raddle you up a little bit. And it works. But I've been a season ticket holder for 8 years now and grew up listening to the "sheep show". (My grandfather used to say "Man they know their football" and I'd think to myself they didn't really say anything with substance. Just alot of "well I agree") Im converted. I haven't exactly stopped grazing from time to time but I love football. Especially SEC and UT football. And I'll die loving UT football, as I expect most around here to do. Know after I graduate from here, I might be able to keep my tickets without having to sell the house every year?
What really makes Gray tick is that he can't stand the University of Tennessee because it resides in the south and the New York music community frowns upon the banjo playing sutherners from the state of Tennessee.
I have no idea why he even went to UT. I would however put 100 dollars down that Gray says he graduated from another university.
The sheep on this board follow the University of Tennessee however Gray is branded as another sheep, similar to JC and TopDawg, they follow blindly and attach themselves to anything negative about UT.
Gray, I don't have any respect for you and I know you don't care and it just goes to show how egotistical you are to start a thread about what makes you tick. Please.
"If that's not a hate driven post than i doesn't know what is but I agree VH don't feel alone."
?
"The reason he VH says we because you won't find many people around here like yourself. People around here cares about things."
?
"Their passionate about their beliefs. I would think after bringing a child into the world it would open up your eyes and give you a reason to stand up for something, instead of just sittin back and criticizing everything suggested."
If you're able, go F yourself for mentioning my son. Next.
"I complement you for admitting to a great win when you see one,"
Thanks.
"but I would shake your hand if you were admitting to a defeat because you have a team or a stance that you represent."
Call me the "I hope Phil Fulmer falls on his huge ass" contingency.
"People around here care about things."
Echo? echo? echo?
"We are the first to got to war and the last to abandon our country."
Your idiotic ass wouldn't know shit about war. I was HERE when those M-Fers hit the Trade Center.
"Thats why we are the volunteer state and we take pride in it. That's what makes us tick."
Cute ending. Too bad the rest of your post was reactionary, childish, spontaneous, "brat" behavior.
