considering all of the injuries and Haislips academic problems.

Last nights victory over (a bad) SMU team was very impressive, considering that the game was on the road.

It will be interesting to see how many minutes B. Crump and Elgrace Wilborn get in the future with Haislips expected return ???
****
I wonder if Peterson in the future, will consider occasionally letting Yarbrough run the offense, once the ball is brought into the half-court ????

I still have some concerns about this program but I must admit I got fired up last night, after watching Buzz going ballistic following an easy lay-up by SMU, which happened because UT didn't rotate defensively.
Another positive last night was that it seemed, R Slay emotions (tantrums) were well proportioned and he played under control.
AIM, I LOVED when Peterson called the "T" & exploded on

Holden for letting his man blow right past him for an uncontested layup. TN was up by 17 & that bucket cut it to 15 but Peterson stopped the bleeding right then & there. I'll guarantee you last year's coach wouldn't have called timeout until the Mustangs had cut the lead to single digits.
I agree with you on Yarbrough running the half court offense on an occasion. I don't think there is any question that VY is the best passer on this team & his height could create mis-matches on the offensive end of the court.
It's a shame that kid never received sound coaching because I truly believe VY could have been a quality PG if given proper instruction back in his youth & high school days ala Jalen Rose.
drove the lane on a fastbreak in the first half and a guard from SMU nearly took his head off. This SMU player (Ross?) nearly jammed the balled down Higgins throat.

That was a big time block.

PS UT (especially Yarbrough) still refuses to block out, particularly on the defensive end and overall the Vols defense (for lack of a better word) seems soft.

Miss State is off to a 7-0 start. Though the competition has been soft, nonetheless, a good start for a team that has fallen off the radar screen since the '96 Final Four appearance.
peterson was the right guy to go after and will pay dividends soon at ut. miss st has a chance to have a good season too and winning the ez early games will be important to get that bid in march. btw, beating richmond on the road is not too shabby. they always have a solid program.

Grindstaff needs to stop dribbling into 1 on 4 and 1 on 3 situations and pass the damn ball.
SMU was pretty bad, but if JG had been on the sideline last night, that game would have gone down to the wire.
even with the injuries and Haislip not playing until the Memphis game. UT still doesn't have a true point. But Higgins should be better than Saul Smith was a UK. Lack of depth at the guard position may cost them. Hopefully Sribling can play some minutes there. Gindstaff has to provide some valuble minutes at the point. Maybe M. Collins will get the green light to play BB. He sure could help in the backcourt. But I will believe that when I see it. Finally, UT's frontline of Vicent, Ron, and Marcus should be the best in the SEC. Wilborn and Crum should get quailty minutes. Be patient and the best is yet to come. UT will be able to play with anyone next year. I just hope Buzz can get this crew in the NCAA tourney. I have seen more drop steps by UT's big men in a few games than the entire Jed era. Also, shot selection has shown big improvement. AIM is right UT needs to box out better on the boards but it is still better than last year.
