I think that we will be better next year on offense.
We better be. Because, in my humble opinion, If John Chavis is still here we will still be a mediocre defense at best. It's time to pat Chavey on the back, thank him for "a job well done", then send him on his way and bring in Woody.
Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.
TN had better recruit a QB this year. Yeah, Casey may have "awesome" stats but let's get real. If not for the WR there would be no stats. Any QB can throw 5 yard passes and in the flats. Any yardage gained is purely WR talent after the catch. They even poked fun at him on national TV. If you remember Casey,s Brother at LSU was told to play the part of Casey during practices but said that would be tough because he couldn't throw that slow and wobbly.
"I think that we will be better next year on offense."
Probably just as inconsistent, with Colonel Sanders calling a good game one week a shitty one the next. Weary and Coleman will not be easy to replace.

DL takes a huge hit, LBers will be slightly improved at best, secondary will still suck & still not know how to catch a ball that hits them in the numbers.

It's time for Chavis to go point blank.

You must have been watching a different team/QB than what I saw. During the last two thirds of this season, Clausen completed numerous clutch 3rd and 4th down passes over the middle. Replays often revealed the pinpoint accuracy that was required to thread the ball through the outstretched hands of defenders. In addition, the guy proved himself to be a leader. He's the kind of guy who wants his number called in a clutch situation.
He's not fast and not the most graceful QB you'll ever see. He gets the job done. That remark from his little bro. started b/f the first LSU game. His 180 lb. little bro. probably ought to spend more time focusing on his own skills b/c based on what I saw this past Saturday, it appears his biggest contribution to LSU football will be imitating his older brother.
I was pretty impressed by Clausen in 2001. Frankly, he was better than I thought he would be. I will admit naming him pre-season All-SEC was a bit much, IMO.
IN 2002 there will be some really good QB's in the SEC:
Clausen @ Tenn
Grossman @ UF
Green @ UGA (IMO, the most impressive)
Manning @ UManning (Fant showed him up in the Egg Bowl)
Fant @ MSU (Came on strong in the Egg Bowl win & BYU loss...both end-of-the-season games.)
Lorenzen @ UK
Watts @ Bama
Campbell @ Auburn
...A couple I'm leaving out.
Hand it to Clausen on this level: He was able to beat Tenn's biggest rival (ie, UF.) IMO, that's a big measuring stick for a QB...especially in the SEC.
Guys, in my opinion, UT's defense will be in trouble next year if Haynesworth leaves early (which would be stupid by the way). That would mean UT would have to replace its entire line. On another note, I don't see Stallworth leaving. He's prone to injury and hasn't been consistently productive in big games.
I'm not worried about DE as much as I'm concerned over DT. IF AH leaves, that leaves TN with only Rashad Moore and Aubrayo Franklin at DT. Ed Kendrick could come back. To make matters worse, UT will have to replace most of its dline after 2002 (Ritzmann, Veal, Franklin, Hand, Kendrick and Moore are gone then). I think the LBs will be a lot better next year, but the secondary is still shaky.
IF Brocky is wrong about Woody and we're forced to suffer with Chavis again next year, it could get bad on defense.
With that said, I think Tennessee's offense next year will be its most talented since the 1990 team.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE LINEBACKER SPOT. UT WILL HAVE PLENTY HS ALL AMERICAN RB'S ON THE ROSTER TO MOVE TO LB. IF UT WANTS A LB WHY NOT RECRUIT A LB?
A CLASSIC MOVE BY THE COACHING STAFF.
