Please!!!! If any of you saw the game last night or read about it in the news paper you will finally understand that this clown had no business being no where near the heisman trophy in '97. Three pick passes in one game, two set up TD's, 20 for the year, and 11 in the last 5 games? You call this a great QB? Hell no!!! Manning or his father must have the colts by their necks, because any other QB would be benched by now. Just admit it that manning is sorry! Okay sure he has a phat contract and is a overrated millionair, but what has he done in his career that makes him so great. What did he do while he was at UT that they had to name a streat after him? What did he do that many vol fans were crying(now thats a shame) when he didn't win the heisman? Tell me vol fans! I would like to know what manning did that Tee Martin didn't do. Did manning ever beat the gators? Did he win any championships? Talk to me fellas!!!
Manning had a tough defense in '97. Little, wilson, thompson...that was a wrecking crew. Nebraska had problems moving the ball against them in the first half and Tom Osborn just out coached UT in the second half. I've always said that manning was not a team player. The only team that would take another manning is UT. Lsu has a fine QB because he is mobile. THat's what it's all about, mobile QBs. From the 80's on back through history pocket QBs were primary weapons, but now the mobile QB kills you with his feet and arm.
I probably shouldn't respond to such ignorant comments, but let's look at things from the proper persective.
First, you cannot compare what someone does or doesn't do in college football to what they do or don't do in pro football. It's football, but the games are played completely different. Whether Manning should or shouldn't have won the Hypeman in '97 has nothing to do with what is going on this season.
I guess I amamzed that opposing teams weren't more successful against the Colts sooner than now. Edgerrin James is a very good RB. His absense is the biggest factor why Peyton is struggling. Dominic Rhodes is okay, but let's be realistic. If he was very good, he would have been drafted out of college no matter which school he attended.
Marvin Harrison is one of the best receivers in the league. Other than Harrison, the Colts receivers aren't that good. It's amazing that Harrison has as many TD's and receptions as he gets. The other teams are finally figuring out how to limit what he does.
The offensive line looked really bad last night. This group wasn't in the top 5 anyway, but they seem to be getting worse as the season goes along.
Their defense is terrible. They started going down hill. I said on another post a few weeks ago that the Colts defense hasn't been the same since Cornelius Bennett left the team. He was past his prime, but he's a good locker room guy and knows where his teammates should be on the field at all times. They don't have anyone like that now.
Jim Mora isn't the best coach in the world. If the Colts get John gruden (as is rumored) next season, you will see a major difference in the team and in Manning. Lookat what Gruden has done for Rich Gannon. He's been on 5 or 6 teams before going to the Raiders. He was considered a journeyman. Now, he's put together several really good seasons with average skills. But he's smart, which Manning is too. But his skills are much better than Gannon's. Let Gruden coach him for a few years and make your judgement about Manning then. Manning is only in his 4th season. Most QB's don't play anytime during their 4th season, unless they are being thrown to the fire.
Your bias toward Manning is obvious. Try to be more objective, if you can.
