At Least 10 Bowls Games Sold Out...

For what it's worth, according to the article in the KNS today (Top C3) it looks like at least 10 bowl games will be sold out or awfully close to it. As everyone knows, I'm not a playoff proponent, but at the same time, it is very obvious there are WAY too many bowl games for this day and time. With the availability of every game every week on TV, the attraction to get out and see teams you rarely get a look at just isn't the same as 20 years ago.

The tickets might be sold, but let's see

December 23 2001, 10:27 AM

how many fannies are in the seats.

I don't think there's any doubt the Rose, Fiesta, Sugar (with LSU), Outback (with Sheepy USC fans), and maybe the Orange (in-state Fla and up & comer Maryland) will be completely filled. I suppose the Cotton (OU vs. Ark), Holiday (Wash vs. Tx), Independence (holds about 40,000), Gator (FSU vs VA Tech), and maybe the Peach will be close.

However, just like I said above, I'll be interested in how full the stands are as compared to the number of tickets sold.

I do know one thing: If ANY of these bowls were part of some kind of playoff then each & every stadium would be full to capacity.

Silly. Just plain silly. There are NFL playoff games that don't sell out. How can you guarantee any more fannies in the seats than the current system? In any event, tickets sold does not necessarily equal fannies in seats.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GREYZEN!

Post Season Blahs

December 24 2001, 3:30 PM

Contrary to what many think I am not anxious to see the demise of Bowl Season. I like the Bowl Games. As I've stated on numerous occasions a bad College Football Game beats the daylights out of whatever comes in second. I simply wish the Major Bowls were part of a playoff. I saw a replay of the 82 Cotton Bowl between Alabama and Texas on Classic. I couldn't help but remember how excited I was on New Years Day prior to the BCS and all it's predecessor ugly cousins by other names. I wonder how many of us enjoy the post season now more than we did under the old anything goes matchups of 15 years ago?

Gray, let's just suppose there's an 8 playoff system

December 24 2001, 3:56 PM

and Tennessee sweaks in even though it lost to LSU in the SECC game. Due to the loss to the Bengal Tigers the Vols are now 8th in the BCS rankings & must play No. 1 seed Miami in the first round of the playoffs in the Citrus Bowl. How many tickets would you guess TN would sell to that contest? Maybe, just maybe, a few more than what's been sold for the game against Michigan this year? Heck, even after the loss to LSU everybody & their brother would be scrambling to try & get tickets for TN vs Miami & don't try to tell me otherwise.

I think you'd see the same response from Texas fans with whatever playoff game they'd be going to because they'd basically be in the same position due to their loss to Colorado.

Also, I don't even know how you could argue the current bowl system atracts more local interest for a game than a bowl game that had playoff implications. If you lived in a bowl community, which of the two would you rather go see? Case closed.

Gray, I love ya man, but on this one you're dead wrong.

Wow, BT, how many teams you got going?

December 24 2001, 5:03 PM

You've got Tennessee and Texas going. Are you going to leave out Nebraska? Or maybe leave out SEC champ LSU? Or are you going up to 16 teams. Why don't you run down your proposed lineup?
