Today is Christmas Eve, and I suppose things may well slow down in here even more. I mean even slower because of family functions, not the fact that this board was down almost all of yesterday. For this reason I want to wish all a Very Merry Christmas. Be safe and keep a designated driver handy if the Christmas cheer gets heavy.

Also want to wish Sports Parlor South a Happy Birthday! Tonight and tommorrow ironically is the sites Birthday. CD got this thing crankin with his Christmas Eve design and Christmas Day launch one year ago. One year later this site is still crankin(when network 54 is not down) despite some troubles. Most all the original posters still post or at least pop in from time to time.

So lets all reflect on the reason for the season and have some quality family time. I will catch you I am sure today and tommorrow.

Right Back at Ya PV

December 24 2001, 7:46 AM

Today is is the anniversary of Craig launching the Parlor. He was so excited in his e-mail to me about "checking out the new board".
I had that e-mail in my archives of my old computer but was lost when it crashed and burned a couple of months ago.
I would have loved to share it with all of you as the intentions of Craig Daniel were clear as to his premise and hopes for his creation. I will however paraphrase.

" Al, I need your help. I have found a format in which to start a new sports board. If you can help me tweak a few things and get the word out, we can once again have a place to share our opinions and convrosation with each other. A place that will have a minimum of rules and that which will answer to no one except the members of the board."

It seems so long ago but yet it has been only a year. CD and I partnered up and here we are a year later.
I can not imagine Craig not visiting us today, but he has had maybe the toughest year of his life. I hope Christmas Eve finds you well old buddy and thank you for thinking of all the guys from the old convro board when you started the SPS project.
The Parlor continues on in the spirit from which it came.

Please click on the Merry Christmas link just above the board main page. I believe it illustrates how Craig and I felt one year ago today.

Merry Christmas Guys

December 24 2001, 3:17 PM

SPS Family,

I hope everyone has a joyous, happy and healthy Christmas. Thanks for a great year of entertainment on the site. It's great fun. God Bless you all.

CD, PV and TBA,

Special thanks to each of you for going the extra mile to assure that all of us knuckleheads have a place to kick the issues around. We are involved, you three are committed and I for one can't thank you enough.

Merry Christmas

And

December 25 2001, 7:08 AM

Merry Christmas right back at ya Beano.

Appreciate the kind words and hope you and yours have a great holiday. I hope those of you with sound (and without) checked the link above as that Christmas card I got from my sister just said it all imho.

My wife and I had our concerns about raising another child when we found Jennifer and realized that she deserved a fair chance at life. Our three were raised and we were on to a new chapter in our lives. But now waiting for that 4 year to wake up with her Christmas morning excitement takes me back to my own youth and when our three were small. That is why I guess that e-mail christmas card hit home with me.

I do wonder about CD and I can not help but be worried. I know I was one of the few in SPS that met him, but you guys know him through his posts and work toward the Parlor. Please join me in a prayer for his safe being.

My Christmas letter to SPS

December 25 2001, 9:10 AM

I "smarted" up this year. I made the 6:00 mass on Christmas Eve. I saw OMG but was not able to say HOWDY. Last year I put off the services until late Christmas Day, I was forced to attend a Hispanic Church Service as all english services had concluded. One of the most moving services I ever attended. Being a "gringo" in an hispanic world opened my eyes to differences we all co-inhabit in this USA.

My dream was of a ROCKWELL Christmas. I HAD MY WHOLE CLAN TOGETHER AND WE WERE PREPARED TO LEAVE 30 MINUTES EARLY FOR CHURCH. My youngest a 10 yr old picked that exact moment to hit the bathtub(miracle, a 10 yr old that would volunter for a bath LOL). We were forced to hit the church after it was already full and were seated seperatly. Oh well the Rockwell Christmas can only be a dream!!

After that a 2nd family function with my wifes family. Home we went around 11:00. My 10 year old long ago was over the Santa story, but played along afraid the gifts would diminish. Up at 6:00 for gifts with the young one. My daughter was at the home place last night. She also brought along "LUG" her boyfriend who honored us with his presense. They were up at 2 AM cooking in the kitchen creating yet another mess.
UHHHH!

Now that the youngest is 10 a rite of passage occurs. This is probably the last Christmas of the traditional kid oriented specie. Not again until I have GRANDCHILDREN will this be a childrens day in my home. I explained to LUG last night I could use with at least a 5-10 year break as far as kids and grandchildren.I explained this while SHARPENING my favorite carving knive. Hope he got my message!

We have one more function at my wife's parents home. We prepare for a meal at home in wich my 87 yr old POPS will attend. Complete with ham and Chicken and dumplings(his menu) The Bloody Mary's have already been mixed and I am into the pitcher working on my second.

I expect drastic changes in my household as I prepare for major career change. Plus my wife recieved notification that she passed her test and now has professional status. Sara my daughter has finished college and is deep into the job hunt mode. This in all probability will be her last Christmas at home.

I sit and look how great I have it, and can only be humbled at all that I have to be thankful for. Merry Christmas to all

I'm taking bets I was the early-riser sucker!

"Up at 6:00 for gifts"

PV, I think my wife and I set the high-water mark for getting up with the kids as we, after much badgering from our son, agreed to roll out of the bed at 4:15AM today to see what Santa had brought. We were up a good 45 minutes before he let us go back to bed for a couple of hours. Fortunately/Unfortunately, this should be the last year of "Santa", so maybe next year the Mrs. and I can at least sleep until sunrise!

I Know Someone Who

December 25 2001, 11:03 PM

had ya beat WC. My niece awakened at 2:30 am with some kind of pains in her leg and upon going to Mom and Dads room saw that Santa had been there and Christmas morning was good to go. So she woke my sister and brother in law up and they celebrated till around 4:00 and went back to bed.
