In mid November, I said that the Big 12's top 3 teams would all win the SEC. I could not have been more wrong. Let's look inside the numbers.
OU (9-1) & Nebraska (11-0) were sitting on the perch of a shot with Miami , to be determined in their rematch. The rematch never occurred as both teams choked. The Big 12 South (Texas) & North (CU) champs looked weak in their bowl games. While Texas won, they trailed #20 Washington by 19 points at one time. We all saw Big 12 Champ CU get trashed by Pac 10 Champ Oregon. Oklahoma struggled to beat a SEC also ran, Arkansas and Nebraska proved that the #2 team in the Big 12 North didn't belong anywhere near the same field as the 2001 Miami Hurricanes.
Texas A&M had another disappointing season, KSU was rebuilding & was pummeled by Cuse in their bowl. OU, Texas & A&M won bowl games for the Big 12, none of which were vs. higher ranked competition. 3-5 overall in bowls for the Big 12, certainly not impressive.
The Big 12 2001 reminds me A LOT of the SEC (circa 99&00), where the top of the league was absolutely humiliated by champions of other conferences.
The Big East had a nice bowl record, with another win over the SEC & a National Championship. This league is a hell of a lot better than people give them credit for.
