Who the hell cares???
On Tony's show today, people were acting like someone had died. First off, The SEC will be fine without Steve Spurrier. Second, his leaving will only take away from our rivalry with Florida if we now can beat Florida consistantly. If that is the case, then dammit,
I for one am willing to accept that. This man has been a thorn in our sides since 1993 and I am glad he is leaving. It seems to me that since we beat his Gators this year that evryone has forgotten how much we hate seeing this man on their sidelines. I personally like the hell out of the guy, he is a great coach. Now, I like him a hell of alot more. Good ridance Steve Spurrier. (I would love to see the guy go to my beloved
Dallas Cowboys).

Uhhm............Okay.

Don't get that attitude, yet. Oh, and by-the-way, don't give me any of that, well-we-beat-you-this-year garbage. You have been beaten more than a pound-puppy at a shark feeding contest. Do you NOT think that this will continue at the hands of GATORFANS everywhere? Drop your crack bong, son.

Don't want to heed my words?

The truck will be coming by soon to pick up the trash (it's Saturday). I'm sure they would be willing to give you a ride.

ok....

Listen you dumbass..

I was saying that Tennessee fans thought that Spurrier was all of a sudden not a threat because we beat them in the swamp. I disagreed with that and thought that
things would not be that different in the future than they had been in the past. I'm sorry if you are too damn stupid too understand my post you stupid florida
prick. And no, now that spurrier is gone, it is over.
Fulmer was intimidated by spurrier, not florida.
You will still win your share, but the dominance is over.

Isn't It Ironic...

January 5 2002, 8:48 AM

Just three weeks ago this whole board,as well as Basilio and Crew, were whining about the hangover we suffered after the Florida win that carried over to LSU. How way too much is made when we beat them, that it should be like any other game we play. Win and move on, no big deal. Act like you've been there.

Then yesterday, we get an EMERGENCY break-in to WRUF for constant up-to-the-minute news and fan discussion on Spurrier leaving. You're right, JB, and Basilio even made the comment, we're acting like Spurrier died...no wait, not even Spurrier, try the president. And these same people want to place blame anywhere for over-emphasizing the Florida game/win? How inconsistent can they be! Sure, it's an interesting occurance of events, but come on, this is not life-altering stuff.

One of two things are true. Either Steve Spurrier and Florida ARE much bigger fish to fry and it's OK to treat them as such, or there is a bit of hypocricy still swirling in the air after yesterday.

"Tooonnnyy, when are we gonna beat Florida?"

I'll kinda miss ole shiny pants

January 5 2002, 9:00 AM

I for one, do believe that Spurrier's departure is bad for the SEC. As much as I disliked him he was always entertaining. He was the guy that you love to hate. UF will probably find a very capable replacement as a coach, but the character that was Steve Spurrier is gone from the SEC.

Spurrier can be given a lot of credit for the style of football that is played by the top teams in the SEC today. After Florida's rise to prominence in the mid 90s, teams started to be built to beat Florida. I won't go so far to say that the SEC has been the most dominant conference during that time, but the type of football played in the SEC is more entertaining and exciting than any other conference in the country. Just look at how Florida, LSU, and Tennessee dominated their respective bowl opponents.

As a Tennessee fan I would have gotten more satisfaction from beating "ole shiny pants" than some Bobby come lately.

Whether you loved him, or simply loved to hate him, you have to admit that Steve Spurrier was good for the SEC.

Beating FL with Spurrier meant nothing to me

January 5 2002, 9:12 AM

Without him even less. Beating FL was only important because they were in our way to our goals. The loss to LSU was more painful than most of the past FL losses. FL has been a charter member of the SEC only 56 years. My guess FL field nicknamed the SWAMP really was a swamp not to many years back. The UoF campus has very little character. I do not even like most FL fans(SMITTY IS ALRIGHT)

IMHO FL will have to hire a recruiter. FL is loaded with talent, but FL is loaded with top level football programs. TENN has even pulled gems out of FL. GA recruits the ST. There is only one Spurrier. The system may well stay, but will be tweeked. Even Spurrier last year commented on the fact that FL needed to kick up its talent level a notch.

I expect FL to continue to be a top notch program. But TENN's problem with FL has been mental. Perhaps with SOS gone FL in the teams Psyche becomes just another league game

JB, you must remember

January 7 2002, 9:27 AM

that 90% of the shleps that call into Basilio are considered a Jethro. Hell, Brock is the king of the Jethros!!!! He's so much of a Jethro he's got a damn ropebelt around his waist!!!!!

These Jethros get more pleasure out of seeing UT suffer, than seeing UT win. They are sad because UT's main nemesis is GONE. They know what the future holds, and hey know that the golden horshoe is getting cranked back up.

First Jed, now VisorPuke...THE 'THROS ARE RUNNING OUT OF MATERIAL!

vh & WooleyC,

January 7 2002, 9:34 AM

Look for Basilio to milk this Spurrier thing dry for at least another week during this crucial time of UT's basketball season. He will try to get the last drop out of it if it takes him 2 weeks. He, like the rest of the media, is wrapped around Spurrier, FL, & Jeremy Foley.

BrockyTop does appear more concerned about finding a Head Coach for Orenthal U. & FL than he does about UT BB & UT FB recruiting!

Wonder if we'll get any

January 7 2002, 9:48 AM

recruiting updates this week? I'm sure we'll get updates on Foley's little search!

1240 ought to just move their operations to Gainesville. I think I hear more UF coverage than UT coverage on most days!!!!

OS...we'll hear plenty of bball coverage this week. We'll hear how we'll get whipped by Eddie Munster!
