Since the logging was knocked out (still storing the data to bring things back up to date when Chris restores the old log for me) things have been a bit slow and preformed oldly. I think this Saturday there will be a several hour downtime to sort it all out and get logging back in operation again.
I have made adjustments that should make the site much faster than last week. After Saturday it will be faster still. Our hope is that we will have a backup server in place on Saturday so that if the main server goes down, the site will stay running -- though in read-only mode (though chat will still work).
Full Text search indexes are being updated now with new messages only until Saturday, after which we will queue up all the missing messages.
First, thanks to everyone for their kind words in this forum (New Year's and Holiday wishes) and I hope everyone had a good holiday and New Year's as well!
Second, there is tentatively going to be some downtime this weekend (on Saturday) so that we can setup an additional drive array that will add some redundancy to our systems and servers, and (hopefully) restore logging for the last month or so.
Third, the issues regarding downtime related to one of our servers overheating has been resolved. Our servers have been chugging along faithfully since a couple of weeks ago when I went in to do some maintenance regarding the issue.
Fourth, there was an issue with our DNS that affected a few people (not many, but enough to call it an issue), so we've tweaked our DNS and it should be responsive enough such that noone gets a "Cannot find server" error message.
Fifth, there are still some issues with search, but we're reindexing a lot of the Premier messages (about 2 million) so some older messages are still not searchable. All new and recent messages are, and will continue to be.
Sixth, let's try to keep it civil in here! I know that the downtimes last month have caused frustration with many people (especially for us at Network54), so I think that's carrying over into this forum. This is a great forum because of all the people who contribute and help each other, and provide feedback regarding our services, so let's keep it that way!
Sat could be bad news for this boards operation. (down most of the day)
PV is working feverishly on our new board which will be the backup message board untill construction is done.
I hope for the good word from PV tomorrow.
If anyone can get it done it is the Dick Tracy of SPS.
