The FDNY has commissioned--with one "minor" change-- a statue honoring firefighters based on the famous photo from Sept. 11th of three firemen hoisting the American flag at ground zero. Probably the most famous photo of that horrible day.

You ask, "what is the change?" Oh, nothing major. Though the original photo was taken of three WHITE firemen, the statue is being altered so a white, a black, and a hispanic fireman each is being represented.

Based on the numbers given by the FDNY to Bill O'Reilly, well over 300 white firemen lost their lives at ground zero, 12 blacks, and no number was given for hispanics.

For a moment let us assume the original photo had been taken of three black firemen hoisting the flag. Let us also assume the number of deaths had been reversed: Well over 300 blacks, only 12 whites, and no number given for hispanics firefighter deaths.

Tell me this, how much hell would we be hearing from Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the Congressional Black Caucus, the NCAAP, and the LIBERAL MEDIA if an alteration from the original photo to the statue had taken place replacing three black firemen with a black, a white, and a hispanic???

This PC crap makes me ill.

Do these politically correct bastards not realize this way of thinking promotes division instead of unity in this country? How difficult is it to figure out?

Let Me Rephrase Your Question BT

January 15 2002, 12:07 AM

How are the PC and Jackson, Sharpton factions going to react to those that do not agree with the changes made to the statue???
I have not heard anything yet but you know its coming. I heard this situation on a talk show the other night and shook my head thinking, what in the hell is wrong with people these days. Have they lost their damn minds?
Race color or creed has nothing to with this dramatic picture captured now in the hearts of millions. What it stands for and the actual heros involved has everything to do with it. To change it abhors the event.
Its sorta like letting athletes break records by compromising the integrity of the game to GIVE then the opportunity to do so.
And both of these scenereos are bogus and need to be called what they are.
Politicaly & Sportingly Incorrect Assasinations Toward The Integrity of an Issue or Event.

It was commisioned by the FDNY

January 15 2002, 12:27 AM

My guess lots of folks made the decision on WHO was present for this very historic moment of hoisting the flag. Anybody that believes a spontaneous moment occured when this very public video byte happened is missing the point. Ground zero has been the scene of many different video, audio, political, and plain ole tension breaking high jinks. Most of it would offend almost anybody present for its unfolding. Bottom line fire fighters that many in this hillbilly, down south, home of the baptist preacher would find offensive used PR to honor its members(yeah I said members) and used a little pr to push its MEMBERS goals. In a city that is predominatly hispanic, black, ethnic european, IF it does have a majority of WHITE city employees probably has some hiring problems, and sore spots. I have a huge problem thinking that only WHITE fireman or cops were willing to hit ground zero. If a majority of the city employees who died were white it probably reflects more a seniority system, a good ole boy hiring process, and plain ole mathmatics. More white than black, or hispanic firefighters % were on site because of hiring practices.

As a East Tennessean I have always been amazed how many of us overlook population % that imply that in the next 30 years we can expect non european ethnic population to out number us Bubbahs. Will we all move to Idaho and Wyoming? Or will we learn to do business with folks that do not need 30+++ sun blocker?

PV, I'll respond the the rest of your comments later...

January 15 2002, 8:55 AM

but your "all of us moving to Idaho or Wyoming" comment struck me because it is MY GOAL IN LIFE to be living in Wyoming or Montana within 5 years!

Also, if you think the three firemen in the photo on Sept. 11th were "posers" then you're living in a dream world.

More to come.

OUTSTANDING TOPIC!!!!

January 15 2002, 10:49 AM

BT, what an outstanding observation on your part. When you take into account the Jesse Jacksons, Al Sharptons, the CBC, the NAACP, and the Liberal Media. All being in the same bed under the same comforter together, there is NO BIGGER REASON that we shouldn't be at The Cocke County Courthouse fighting for our rights. To put Political Correctness to the side for one second, why don't we just come out with the TRUTH.
The WHITE MAN in this country today is the MINORITY.
This may hurt some peoples feelings, but it is still the truth.

I can't Confirm that, or Deny it!

January 15 2002, 11:34 AM

But I think there is no difference in what the KKK,s beliefs are and the beliefs of the NAACP, or The Rainbow Push Coalition. Jesse Jackson has become a Multi Millionare by STRONG ARMING Big Business to surrcum to his beliefs and pushing Minorities thru the system regardless of Experience, Ability, or Education. Has the KKK ever done that? Has the KKK ever approached any kind of Business or Proffesional Sports Program Demanding to hire a certain individual because of Race, Creed, or Origin? I don't think so.
I have Worked My Ass off to get where I,m at today. I have a Great Job, a Great Family, and a Great Education. Nobody gave me a DAMN THING. I'm PROUD OF THAT.
Infact, last time I checked my calander, I didn't see a David Duke Holiday, or a Nathan Bedford Forest Holiday, or a JC Holiday.
I don't buy into the argument that Whites have a better chance of making it in this world than Blacks or anyone else. I had one thing growing up like everyone else in this world has, and that is "A CHOICE". I chose not to go to drugs, and street corners. I chose to work hard and get my Education, ie. which I paid for myself. There are to many Gov't programs, Aids, and Grants for someone in this day and time not make it. It is easier today than it has ever been. So I take my stance. I don't chose the Rainbow Coalition, I chose KKK.

I can see your point, and you have a valid counter-point. I don't think it is meant to be politically correct, but unfortunately it is rubbing off that way.

I think the FDNY is making a more general statement that the diversity of New York is once again holding us together in a time of crisis.

......okay, the Iwo Jima memorial, a flag raising, kept the originals, the statue at the Vietnam Memorial in D.C. did not depict a specific event, but the diversity of all that served. I fully support a design with those that raised it, veterans that I have contact with support my "theory". There should be another memorial to those who were lost, be it a chef at "Windows on the World", a CEO, a janitor, and a child and her Mom who just dropped Daddy off at work.

You are either a stupid, redneck bigot, or just trying to get a reaction out of your idiot comments.

First of all, the KKK might not have ever demanded that a business hire whites, just firebombed businesses that served or hired blacks. When was the last white lynching by the Rainbow Coalition? When was the last church firebombing by the NAACP? I've got big problems with Jackson and crew, more than anything that they hurt race relations much more than they help with affirmative action, always blaming someone else for their problems, etc. But the KKK is a group of insecure dumbass crackers that need a purpose in life that their own pitiful existence somehow doesn't provide.

And if you're not a bigot, then the comment about Fulmer being strong-armed by Jackson is so stupid it's funny. The reason that UT has maybe 70-80% black players is they just happen to be the best athletes. Last time I checked, affirmative action has never applied to BB or FB because for whatever reason blacks are faster, quicker, and stronger than white players. Fulmer was asked that question during a talk, and his response was basically that he didn't know why, but most of the great athletes came out of poor, black cities. A person preaching "personal responsibility" should applaud that. These guys work THEIR asses off all year long to get an education and represent UT on the football field. THEY stayed off drugs too, and graduated from High School, and are going to college. Would you rather they be selling crack on a street corner?? Or maybe you'd rather see the "job" go to Bubba from Newport just because he's white.

Back to the original topic

January 16 2002, 12:41 PM

They talked about this very story on the "Today" show this morning. They interviewed a fireman who is very outspoken against changing this statue. They also interviewed a woman who works for the Amsterdam News who is says it should be changed to one white, one black, and one hispanic. And yes, she is black.

Her point was that this statue is a piece of art, not an actual depiction of the photo. That all people that work for the FDNY should be represented. She also said that one photo was not the most recognizable photo or image from Sept. 11.

The fireman's point was they should do something different than was in the photo if they want to be diverse. Otherwise, if they are making a replica based on the photo, do not change it. We'll never hear the end of this one.

The only solution for rectifying this horrible injustice...

January 17 2002, 12:21 AM

...is to erect a statue commissioned by a panel of
SHE-MEN (Hillary, Reno, Degenerate) of a
BLACK (Jesse, ACLU, Democrat) and
WHITE (majority=minority wasps)
AFRICAN (Farakan & Co.)
GORILLA (Gore, Evolutionists, Athiests) wearing a
TURBAN (poor, misunderstood Muslims) raising a
PINATA (for our legal and illegal friends south of the border).

Four Score and Seven Years Ago

January 17 2002, 12:32 AM

Our fathers brought fourth to this Country a new Nation concieved in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that All Men Are Created Equal.

Now I did that on memory so I might have goofed it up somewhere. But I know the Gist is right.

Created equal, and all should have the fair chance to live, prosper and die depending on their own work and personal ethics. A man(or woman)should be given the respect they earn, no more, no less. And yea different situations make it tough on different people. But last time I checked, life isn't just not fair and a bitch for the minorities, its a tuff road to hoe for everybody.

So to ME, the sacks of shit that wallow in their mire and complain and use the system to screw the hard working people of this land out of our hard earned Dollars can just BITE this American. Because we are so used to it! I see hard worken people everyday that look like Jaws has been after them.
But I do not differentiate between race color or creed in this statement. If the shoe fits I hope someone rams it down your throat.

Another point

January 17 2002, 10:09 AM

TBA, I read your post and another thought came to mind. If the people that created this statue are really out for political correctness, they need to have more than 3 people in it. There needs to be a woman because there are many women fire fighters. They can add others, but I'm not going to get into what I'm referring to. By the time they are finished, they will have 100 people in the statue after you add Asians, Muslims, etc.

To quote Buford T. Justice..."What is the world coming to?".

Political Correctness

January 17 2002, 2:34 PM

PC is what has made it hard for a young white male such as myself who is a recent college graduate with relative experience in my field to get a job. Jobs are however, due to affirmative action and pc stuff, given to minorities. I know for a fact that I was not hired by an organization due to the fact that a minority was hired with less experience and passion for the job than myself simply because he was the only one that applied. I know this because I was told this by a friend that wanted me to be hired there.

So I don't want to hear this BS about it being easier for a white male to do and get anything they want. With J. Jackson on his/her side all on has to do is say that word "racist" and they get what they want.

I'm not saying I am a she-man, but I do live in new York City. I see all kinds of freaks from time to time.

In all seriousness, I think this whole FDNY issue is being overblown. I know they are changing the "racial identity" of those three guys who put the flag up, but there is a larger issue and statement here.

I don't really see how you can make the faces of a statue look like non-whites because they are not basing them on real non-white people. In a place like New York where you can be completely fooled and/or baffled by one's ethnicity, does it really matter what the faces on the statue look like?

I'm not saying that it is right. But honestly, I don't think this is a big deal, even though even I would be quick to point out blatant hypocrisy. But you have to understand from someone who lives here and who was just a matter of miles away from Ground Zero that there is a much bigger statement being made.
