Painting Bridge Supports UT Orange: Another Political Problem

Had a brain storm today that turned out to be more of a gas attack.
Was driving into work and through the new Alcoa Hgwy interchange at I-40 and had seen three different colors on the overpass supports.
weeel Hell, why can't they be painted Big Orange, especially around the UT area and cap off the new interstate with a flourish, right?
Not so fast....

I called the DOT and after going through 3 people ended up with Fred Corum. Now I will say this, during buisness hours, these folks will talk to ya, give you the straight poop, and call you back when you leave a message. In good time too.

So I threw down my brainstorm to him and he agreed it was an outstanding idea that THEY had tried to do before of their own accord. But it seems they did a couple of bridges and SOMEONE had a problem with it.
Could have been the then commish who was a Vandy Grad? So let them paint the Nashville bridge supports black and gold I said. But of course there were some other people that lived here that were not UT fans and THEY didn't like it. So we talked some more and he agreed to make a few calls and see what bringing the idea up again would bring to the table.

But as BT pointed out in his statue of 9-11 thread, a few people get their nose out of joint about something, so they hold a community, a school, a state or a nation to some politicly incorrect idea that their rights are violated. Well its time to get a handle on this crap and let the moral majority rule. This IS Big Orange Country and while your here, do as the Volunteers do or bare with us. If ya don't like it, hit the bricks.

So I hope maybe I can generate a little intrest in this and see what happens. Its such a simple idea and one I believe leaves an explanation point on what has been a long construction project. But one that will be a feather in the cap of the DOT and why not clad the underside of that feather.....BIG ORANGE.

How many SkyBoxes at Neyland does TDOT have?

January 16 2002, 3:31 PM

I will bet they have one in some form or another!

How much money does TDOT slip to TALL every year?
TDOT's budget is 1.4 BILLION--now that is some serious cash!! With TALL's budget at "only" $55 milion maybe we could get some of that cash!

TBA, maybe you could get TDOT to give education in Tennessee a little more cash!! Right now they are spending a lot of money on 990's shows & sending all those PR "TDOT help(or spin)" trucks out to Salt Lake City for support of the Olympics!

And they rip TALL for counting the coins.

I am Only But One Man

January 17 2002, 1:49 AM

OSVF, and I have to stay focused somewhere. As you know I was outraged when UT did not take my daughter seriously in her dreams of being a teacher and knowing my daughter, so much more!
To not give her the same opportunities that they would a third string punter is an indication of all that is wrong with this state, from Sunquist to Ashole.
A 4.17 grade point average, scholorships to Emery, Berry and other Colleges of note. 7 other educational teacher orientated scholorships and then some more.

Am I painting the bigger picture here?

I choose to start with the bridge supports. To some in here (not you) I have to explain everything. It gets old.

btw/ did you see the sunset wed night?

TBA..

TBA.. this is an EXCELLENT idea. I work in the highway constuction business so I kind of like the barrels. In case you did not know..Fred Corum is the director for Region 1 TDOT. So you spoke with the man on top in this area. Good Luck with this. Are they planning to call you back?

Mr Corum was very forthcoming to me as we talked. You could tell they had tried to do a few tings before and got shot down.
That is why I made the point about the DOT office taking the time to answere questions and lead me to the person I needed to talk to.
Refreshing!

We both left the door open. I asked for permission to quote him and let him know basicly what I would say and he responded, "no problem".

I told him I would write a couple of letters and throw it down in here.
Thanks for your intrest. Maybe you could be one of the first on the NEW paint the bridge supports Big Orange bandwagon?

When I read this........

January 17 2002, 8:59 AM

one thing came to mind. If the TDOT did paint the structures Orange would they use licensed UT Big Orange Paint? If they did would they have to pay UT collegiate fee for its use? That would run up the cost of painting. Just a thought, IMHO DAD would LOVE to see the structures ORANGE.

Just bag it up the money flows

Once The Bridges Are Painted

January 18 2002, 12:33 AM

Its time to buy up that paint and spruce up Neyland Stadium.
There are so many potential projects it is at this time...out of control....
Need the Statue, Neyland on the back of the jumbo
tron (unless they just took the piece of shit down)
You fill in the blank, but a TG retirement party is the first buisness at hand.
