Many of you do not know me, and many do. I created and designed this board, but I did not do it for me, I did it for the great guys from the old 1240 board, and now for all the newer members. I am glad you like it here.
SPS has always been a special place because of the special members. Too many to name. Two guys you should remember for their diligence are TBA and PV.
They warrant your appreciation big time. They want to move SPS alltogether, and I have disagreed with the move publicly, but I could be wrong about that.
In any case, I am so glad to see it happening here, and if TBA and PV want to move it, that's fine with me. This is my farewell to my baby (but not to TBA whom I expect to see this August). May God bless all of you.
...you won't be surprised that I'm clueless RE what's happening between you and SPS. I'm one of the old ConvroBoard boyz who wouldn't be able to enjoy SPS if not for your help. Besides, next to me, you're the greatest Willie Horton fan of all time! I hope YOU will fare well, bruthah!!!
I want to thank you for starting the SPS board. I have not posted until now because of work tasks today, but I did want to post earlier & blast you after reading some of your earlier posts. I am not going to blast you at this point--especially after reading your above post. TBA & PV don't need me to defend them, but they have picked up where you did leave off for a long period of time. You did provide a safe haven for us sports chatters after Tony pulled the plug on the old 1240 board. He pulled the plug in the same manner Conference call has done twice! Thankfully you, TBA, & PV got the word out and many of the better posters & callers from that group came to SPS & I and many have reaped the benefit of their thoughts & efforts.
I may not agree with TBA & PV on moving the board, but I will also say I know zero about reliability & cost issues of hosting a chat site. I do know that they have worried about the board almost to a fault & at times I have told them to relax & let it grow. I think I even told you the same once. I am just a follower on this matter and I do trust TBA & PV enough to know that I will follow them to the new site. I hope you & everyone else will follow(except for a few). I would say these 2 guys have pulled the SPS posters in the proverbial orange wagon & we, as posters have sat back & the benefit of their work.
Craig, this is no shot at you, but in this great country it is easy to start a business(I have done that.), but it is hard to sustain over a long period(done that, too). I see this board in that way & I think TBA & PV have taken the lead to sustain it at Network54 and done the best they can for an enterprise it is obvious they care about.
I wish you luck on your new career in Michigan and hopefully you don't write East Tennessee & its citizens off as a lost cause or worse!
Thanks for all you've done to assure that knuckleheads like me have a gathering place. I count it a loss that I never had the opportunity to meet you and shake your hand. Maybe one day that can be corrected. Best of luck in all you do.
...and OSVF, you dyed-in-the-wool Son of Orange, those are the kindest words ever from you to me. You're all right...I don't care what TBA says about you! LOL!
I do apologize for my East Tennesean crack. I have good reason to feel that way, but none of you are the reason. You guys are the greatest anywhere, including my beloved Michigan, where everyone thinks the start of deer season is a national holiday...where the thumb has geographical rather than anatomical significance...where you show people where you're from by pointing to a spot on your hand...where during Michgan - Michigan State Week you temporarily disown some member of your family...where the Big Mac is something you drive over...where you owe more on your snowmobile than you do on your car...and where driving "coast to coast" means driving from Port Huron to Muskegon. God, I love it! Yes, my friends, one can go home ("click").
After so many years away and in the South, I admit to being apprehensive about enduring a Michigan winter. But I arrived in August, and then the Indian Summer lasted till past Thanksgiving...didn't snow till Christmas Eve. Perfect! And the real winter now is not so tough, and is very beautiful. A small price to pay for the other nine great months of the year!
OSVF, not to bedraggle anything, but I did actually work on this board almost constantly for the first four months. I didn't just start it, I loved it and continually improved it. Actually, to just start it and get it going for everyone was all I wanted to do initially, but it's not that simple. The better side of our humanity promts us to seek improvement in all we do, and this board went from the sublime to the ridiculous...I mean from plain to somewhat jazzy Even the barbed wire has a story (involving a Marine who chewed me out for stealing his barbed wire, then helped me install it).
So you, Bob, Beano, Deano, 44s, PV, and all of you are the best guys I never met. Seriously, I feel that I have met you, and it is my privilege.
Your efforts are appreciated. But explain to the rest of us ilneterates whats the big deal about moving to a new site(Board) and why it is such a contentious issue.
I don't like the style on Board II and the Font is microscopic but is it the end of Days.
...it is not the "End of Days". Daily life as we know it will continue.
Understand, I am both the founder and a member/fan. I don't care for SPS II for the same reasons as you, but more so because I don't see it getting us anywhere. Sure it's new and different, and that may inspire a few members, but is it better?...and is it more exciting?
"Excitement" should be the key word here. TBA and PV have done an excellent job of maintaining this board. Maybe I miscommunicated somewhat last night. This SPS COULD be all it is already for those who are satisfied with it, AND much more! It could be a place you know you should not miss a single day of (Michiganians often end their sentences with a preposition
This board has grown because of guys like you, just spreading the word about it. It is almost time to go national, and for that we need more sizzle, not a new micrscopic site (although a backup just-in-case site has been needed all along).
...what really hit me last night was the authoritative board command to get used to it...this is how it's going to be like it or not, etc. I don't operate that way, and CS it's not.
That and the bald statement that SPS will be but an archive soon. Well, one can move as often as one wants, but that doesn't make the new place any better than the last!
Whatever. What will be will be. I am just a fan now. And I regret that I was not available for important board meetings while all of these major decisions were being made. Heck, since my Net54 password was corrupted, I cannot even keep this board going.
The Net54 group has proved unreliable at best. Their Administration will not work with the forum owners. They are taking pieces of the board away bit by bit and charging premium fees to not only the owners but the members of the board.
Their costs for keeping the board adverting and blinking pop up ad free is more than PV and I can afford. If you have experienced pop up ads and the blinding blinking ads as we have, you know where I am coming from.
We need a server we can afford and one that will work with us and you. If there is a font problem or any othe problem or concern, PV and I will work on it and report back to all of you.
My "Get Used To It" does come off more harshly than I wanted it to. But I was trying to get members in there and give us feedback. Yes the new board is an ultimatum but I have explained our reasoning enough.
CD, I think now you are starting to remember the feel of SPS, not just the memories. Last night you would not even listen, not give Bob and I chance to explain the situation to one that handed over the reins 9 months ago. That....was not fair of you.
And to overlook the notations at the bottom of the board and to spout off at me changing the password is nonsense. I told you when I changed it and why I changed it. And the thing that gets me the most, is that I planned for you to eventually come back to SPS. Planned for you to engage in operations again. Have posted to you every time you resurfaced to get back into the mix! Then you stuck me with this dagger.
Think about it Craig and do a gut check. Then get back to me.
TBA

I wish you wouldn't leave, in fact please post more often. You created SPS, and it will always be your baby. You are te reason we are here. You liked to stay in the shadows, and not promote yourself, but promote the board, which I can appreciate.
Good luck in all of your endeavors.

Well, Ole Piss basketball is stinky and rotten; Championships and rings are long forgotten; We kicked that ass, kicked that ass, kicked that ass, in BuzzyLand; Well, I'm glad I'm not in Oxfraud; Hooray! Hooray! Cause Rebels fans are Redneck flagwavers, who live and die without rings; Hooray! Hooray! I'm glad I'm uuuuuuuuuuup in Knoxville!
A post that generated REAL feedback on the change over. The small font is a problem. To many bells and whistles that confuse instead of enhance would also be my gripe.
Change for changes sake, no. Change because Network54 has huge downtime, definetly. Change to push out CD NO, change to allow ourselves to sell sponsorship for SortsParlorSouth. YES!! We were lucky to get our domain name and hosted site in place before Tony shut down. In fact that domain name allowed many to find us that would have been lost after the link was pulled from the TEAM homepage. I can get into $$ and cents and bore you to death. AIMOO is cheaper and allows the selling of sponsorpage for the start up page.
CD you mentioned the changing of the name. I could link either AIMOO or Network54 as the index page and it would start up when you typed in http://www.sportsparlorsouth.com TBA thinks in the long run that a link to the site, and an entry to the Bulletin Board is our best move.
Next everybody is being saturated with ads to sell you premium access for 2 dollars to enter a free site. The Network54 folks cannot/will not??? promise better up time upgrading our account to ad free status. SPS can survive loosing Tony's link, or moving. But TBA & I do not control your database of info, Network54 does. As will the Aimoo folks control your datbase. So our choice is to link Sports Parlor South to a company Aimoo=Googles that has the best survivability chance. Sell sponsorships to pay for BB service(wich we would have to ante up here eventually) that has an advertising platform(actual header and ad area without unobtrusive banners or pop ups, WITHOUT having to shake our membership down for $$$.
CD, I've never met or talked to you before, so I really don't know much about you. I do know TBA and PV fairly well. When I read your diatribe about them screwing you (basically what you were saying), I couldn't help but equate your arguement to some girl that gets pregnant, then doesn't want the baby so she gives it up for adoption, or better yet, in this case, ASKS someone to adopt it, then a year later wants to come back and criticize the new parents for making a decision without asking her first. If you still wanted controlling/partial interest in this venture, your ass should have stayed and maintained the SOB. IMO, you owe those 2 gentlemen a LARGE apology whether you agree with their decision or not. That attack job on them and this community were way out of line.
And by the way, the day this board goes "national", I'm out of here.

And call TBA in the next week. It sounds like you guys haven't talked about this, and it would be a shame to leave things as they are. There are probably parts of the puzzle that TBA can fill in for you. I don't know any of the details myself, but I'd reconsider leaving for good without talking to Alan personally.
Thanks for the kind words in your previous post, and take care in the meantime.
